Jenkins: Jobs, Pipelines, CI/CD and DevOps for Beginners (Udemy.com)

[2026] Learn modern Jenkins by writing pipeline as code (Jenkinsfile), using Git, GitHub, Docker and deploying to AWS.

Created by: Valentin Despa

Last updated May 2026

Our take

Based on the ratings of 2,838 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in May 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is a Jenkins course built around pipeline as code. Students write Jenkinsfiles, connect Jenkins to GitHub, run builds in Docker, and then push deployments to AWS, first to S3 and Elastic Beanstalk, then to ECS. It runs about 11 hours across 118 lectures and seven sections, and it was last updated in May 2026. The listed requirements are short, Docker Desktop and an AWS account, but the reviews suggest some Linux and Docker comfort helps a lot.

Valentin Despa gets credit for clear, precise explanations, and reviewers like that he makes and fixes mistakes on screen. One reviewer says it covers more than Jenkins, with GitHub, Docker, ECR and Fargate along the way. The complaints are consistent. Some materials are out of date, and one student could not get a build to pass even with the instructor's Jenkinsfile. Others hit permission errors, found the pacing uneven, or wanted a fully end to end automated setup. One reviewer who uses Jenkins in production wanted a more intermediate course.

Of 2,838 ratings, 1,659 are five stars and 934 are four, with only 56 at one or two stars. That's a strong record for a course with about 25,000 students. Treat it as a practical first tour, not a full enterprise toolkit, since a low-star reviewer points out that multibranch pipelines and SonarQube are missing. Anyone starting out who is willing to troubleshoot will get a lot from it. Experienced Jenkins admins should look elsewhere.

Best forDevelopers who want to build Jenkinsfile pipelines and deploy Docker apps to AWS, and don't mind debugging as they go.
Skip it ifYou already run Jenkins at work and want multibranch pipelines, SonarQube or enterprise-scale practices.

Pros

  • Builds real Jenkinsfile pipelines, then ships Docker apps to AWS S3, Elastic Beanstalk and ECS
  • Instructor explains clearly and shows mistakes being fixed, which reviewers found useful
  • Covers GitHub, Docker, ECR and Fargate along the way, so it teaches more than Jenkins alone
  • Updated in May 2026 and rated 4.6 from more than 2,800 reviews

Cons

  • Some lab materials are out of date, and permission errors can stall students
  • Skips multibranch pipelines and SonarQube, so it stays at a beginner level
  • Pacing is uneven, with basic Linux explained while other steps get skipped
Great starter. Was able to create an automated pipeline by taking this course as the base foundation.

Suits developers new to Jenkins, but some Linux and Docker comfort helps, and an AWS account is required.

Valentin Despa

I teach IT professionals what I wish I'd known earlier.

My foundation is built on years in the trenches as an Agile Enterprise Software Developer, engineering solutions for everything from fast-paced start-ups and SMBs to large global corporations. I hold recognized roles as an AWS Community Builder, Postman Supernova, and GitLab Hero, alongside a deep history of securing and building major open-source projects.

For over a decade, I've taken that real-world experience and quietly built one of the largest learning communities around API tooling, test automation, and DevOps practices. What started as a side YouTube channel turned into hundreds of thousands of learners, conference talks, and team workshops at companies most IT professionals have heard of.

The thread through all of it is the same: take something that looks intimidating and break it down so anyone can understand it in plain language.

Lately, I've been spending more time on practical AI in the workplace. I look at how teams can leverage AI for both everyday knowledge work and hands-on IT engineering, like coding and testing. I focus on cutting through the hype to figure out how AI actually helps IT professionals get work done, build, and ship faster. New formats, same approach.

The instructor explains the information precisely and easily to understand. I really enjoyed the course, learned a lot and strongly recommend this course for everyone interested in Jenkins.

By Kimberly Moses on 8/16/2026

This course was challenging and it is more than Jenkins. I learned how to use GitHub, Docker, and some AWS services like ECS, ECR, and Fargate. Now I want to know more about Jenkins and will try to build some projects on my own to put what I learned to the test.

By Luca Cravero on 7/14/2026

Chaotic. In some cases it seems like a course for complete beginners, as in the explanation of basic Linux commands, while others important information is left out. Even the practical exercises are often confusing, not well organized, and cause a significant waste of time compared to the declared duration of the course. The teacher seems a nice person and very skilled but I think the course should be revised trying to build a more linear and clear path, probably including as a requirement the basic knowledge of Linux systems and Docker so as not to have to waste time with these concepts and be able to focus the course on Jenkins instead.

By Nikita Kiss on 6/17/2026

Overall, the course is good, except for periodically getting stuck on issues related to permission denials, non-preferable hot fixes in a Jenkinsfile that you should never use in production as a DevOps. What I appreciated was how the author thoroughly explained every detail of Jenkins, Docker, and GitHub, including their architecture and design. Also, making and fixing mistakes was a very crucial part of this course. As someone who works with Jenkins in a production environment and understands the realities of its use, I would have preferred this course to be more intermediate in level, while still being considerate of beginners.

By Bhavna Gargate on 3/5/2026

The course was well structured and the lectures covered all the important topics as mentioned in overview. Exactly what I was looking for. The jenkins docker container with dind container attached to it was a bonus for me. Thank you!

By Stalin Raja P on 2/23/2026

He is thorogh in the field of CI-CD and explain the topics crystal clear. I like his approach error-solving methods in this course. He didnt correct it upload the course, instead he wants his students to learn how to fix the errors. THankyou Valentin for this wonderful course.

By Erich Paul on 2/16/2026

Even though, I am rather experienced in Jenkins, I wanted to go back to the roots to figure out how things might be entrenched with me, how others work with Jenkins, and get confirmation on my existing knowledge. During the course there were many small things that were really helpful and will find their way into my day-to-day work life.

By Meher Preetham Kommera on 1/16/2026

All the instructions and the lectures were as detailed as possible for a beginner to understand how to use Jenkins and integrate other tools like Git and AWS. I would definitely recommend it to beginners who are trying to get into DevOps.

By Jian Gao on 11/27/2025

One of the great feature is to let demo fail, and walk through to explore solutions and fix. This is a very realistic approach for learning, which is different from other "happy path only" courses. Great learning experience!

By Adam Jamal on 11/27/2025

Good instructions and detail explanation for every steps. Can follow the course since the instructor guide us along to learn the new concepts easily. Highly recommended for those who want to get to know Jenkins, docker, devops, CI/CD and AWS cloud deployment.
