Our take
Based on the ratings of 339 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in August 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a short, free introduction to kanban from Paul Ashun, a Scrum-focused instructor. It runs 36 minutes across 14 lectures in five sections, and it was last updated in August 2026. The syllabus covers where kanban came from, how a board works, and how to visualize a workflow. It is aimed at people who have never used kanban: product owners, support and maintenance teams, or anyone who just wants to know what the word means. There are no prerequisites.
Reviewers mostly call the teaching clear and simple. Several say it covers kanban, Agile and Scrum, one says it is already helping at work, and another liked the Scrum chapter. The complaints are fair, though. One reviewer says too much time goes to Scrum ceremonies and artefacts, and that the course never makes plain that kanban is continuous flow while Scrum is time-boxed. Another noticed some lectures pointing to advertisers. Of 339 ratings, 285 are four or five stars and only eight are one or two.
Limiting work in progress, which is the heart of kanban, gets a single two-minute lecture. Treat this as orientation, not training. It suits a quick first pass. Anyone who plans to run a real board for a team should expect to take a second, deeper course afterward.
Pros
- Short enough to finish in one sitting: 36 minutes over 14 lectures
- Reviewers call the explanations clear and simple, with no prerequisites
- Covers the board, workflow visualization and a bridge to Agile and Scrum
- Free, and refreshed in August 2026 despite a 2021 launch
Cons
- Work in progress limits get one two-minute lecture, thin for the core kanban idea
- Much of the runtime goes to Scrum, which one reviewer found confusing
- No quizzes or exercises, and one reviewer says some lectures point to advertisers
Excellent for persons needing an introduction to Kanban. The chapter on Scrum was very good.
Listed for all levels, but really for beginners: no prerequisites, and it stays at definitions and board basics.
What you will learn
- Learn what kanban is and why it is so powerful for maintaining the highest level of production without overloading your team or business
- Understand what a Workflow is and How the kanban style workflow helps to manage tasks more effectively

Good start for an intro and overview of Kanban
By Richard N. Sam on 1/28/2025
I have better understanding and knowledge about the visual nature of the Kanban board and how it makes it easy to track progress and identify bottlenecks in the workflow. By limiting work in progress and using a pull-based system, teams can enhance efficiency and adapt quickly to changes. The emphasis on continuous improvement fosters a culture where processes are regularly reviewed and optimized for better performance. Thanks
