Course Description
Taught by a Stanford-educated, ex-Googler and an IIT, IIM - educated ex-Flipkart lead analyst. This team has decades of practical experience in quant trading, analytics and e-commerce.
This course is a gentle yet thorough introduction to Data Science, Statistics and R using real life examples.
Let’s parse that.
Gentle, yet thorough: This course does not require a prior quantitative or mathematics background. It starts by introducing basic concepts such as the mean, median etc and eventually covers all aspects of an analytics (or) data science career from analysing and preparing raw data to visualising your findings.
Data Science, Statistics and R: This course is an introduction to Data Science and Statistics using the R programming language. It covers both the theoretical aspects of Statistical concepts and the practical implementation using R.
Real life examples: Every concept is explained with the help of examples, case studies and source code in R wherever necessary. The examples cover a wide array of topics and range from A/B testing in an Internet company context to the Capital Asset Pricing Model in a quant finance context.
What's Covered:
Data Analysis with R: Datatypes and Data structures in R, Vectors, Arrays, Matrices, Lists, Data Frames, Reading data from files, Aggregating, Sorting & Merging Data Frames
Linear Regression: Regression, Simple Linear Regression in Excel, Simple Linear Regression in R, Multiple Linear Regression in R, Categorical variables in regression, Robust regression, Parsing regression diagnostic plots
Data Visualization in R: Line plot, Scatter plot, Bar plot, Histogram, Scatterplot matrix, Heat map, Packages for Data Visualisation : Rcolorbrewer, ggplot2
Descriptive Statistics: Mean, Median, Mode, IQR, Standard Deviation, Frequency Distributions, Histograms, Boxplots
Inferential Statistics: Random Variables, Probability Distributions, Uniform Distribution, Normal Distribution, Sampling, Sampling Distribution, Hypothesis testing, Test statistic, Test of significance

They mix up formulas all the time, making things rather confusing instead of ..well, teaching. For example, they explain the formula for z correctly, as (sample mean - population mean)/ standard error , but when they write the formula they write: (X- μ)/σ. While the standard error is not σ, but σ/sqrt(n). So good luck following it as a beginner. They refer to the SE as sigma several times, as well. Not to mention that they go through explanations waay to superficially. The accent doesn't make it very understandable either... All in all, i hope i'll get a refund due to the (lack of) quality of this course.. gave 2 stars because of the second part, about R, which is better structured and w/o mistakes. I mean, from section 5 onwards. Sections 1-4 are a total mess.

The lessons are overly verbose (like 'assigning variables in R') and a bunch of the case study calculations are incorrect which warrants that the lessons be recreated. Overall, the course seems pretty sloppy and hastily put together.

I needed to refresh my theoretical knowledge about statistics from scratch and learn "R" from the beginning on. From all the online courses I browsed this one seemed the best fit for my needs. And it definitely delivered what it promised and seem to be one of the few if not currently the only one that teaches R and Statistics together for beginners to both with real-life examples. I loved how they used examples from the financial market. What could be improved: use one example through all stages, from descriptive to regression analysis. This would help to apply the content of the course to your own example. It would also help to integrate better the parts of the two different lecturers, which seem relatively separate so far. The course could also be styled in a more engaging way adding images instead of mostly only text and vary the background jingle that gets really boring after 82 lectures. E.g. you could use one new jingle per section to give the student an acoustic feeling of advancing, similar to jingles of levels in old computer games. Overall good and necessary work! The criticism is only about details. Thank you very much, Loonycorn!

Hi for the course 62, I ran into a bit of trouble where class(userInfo$gender) seems to only produce the data type as character and not as a factor. It appears that the read.table no longer automatically treats strings as factors from 2020 onwards and this needs to be clearly specified where stringsAsFactors = TRUE need to be included. Using this seems to work, but you might need to update this. See: https://developer.r-project.org/Blog/public/2020/02/16/stringsasfactors/

I really like the approach of talking about the big picture of using data analysis. There are some grammatical errors, which is a pet peeve of mine. There are also times when what is on the screen seems out of sync with what he is talking about. Halfway through, I'm loving the intertwining of statistical concepts, case studies, and R functionality.

This course is laid out with a statistical course first, then R basics. The statistical course was very enjoyable, but there were errors in it. One error was called out to the instructors 4 months ago (and the instructors acknowledge the error), yet it still exists in the course. There were other formula errors. The R portion is dry and not very useful. You will not have a good understanding of R after this course without prior knowledge.

Overall- Excellent presentation. Very informative course. Pro's- very clearly explained topics presented in short digestible chunks. Authors clearly know what they are talking about and they are engaging. Con's- The background music is annoying. It would also be helpful to have exercises at the end of each major section.

Very great course. Not only learning the R system, but also the basic of statistics and data presentation . Very like of three step of introduce interpreted the p value and six types of inferences. all the examples with different R functions. The explanation of regression how to read the statistics output. Finally how to use the Figure function. Introduce a lot of concept in a way for laymen. Thank you!

I have really enjoyed this course. For me, it was a great review of statistics along with an introduction to R. They explain a statistical concept and then show you how to calculate it using R. I feel that the course material is great and the teaching style is very enjoyable. I like the "Loony Corn" group very much. I have already purchased several of their other courses.

Clear, rich animated and intuitive way of teaching complex concepts. I just which that videos has "closed - caption" (CC) ; Also, it's it pretty weird for me to have a course in R without being in R environnement at all durig the courses : just slides I which loonycorn types the commands in RStudio to be more dynamic and immersive. Slides for teaching a program are too statics... -1 for that
