Course Description

Want to learn the basics of Blues & Boogie piano playing?

This course is the place to start!

Jazzedge offers lessons to all skill levels of piano players. I use the Foundational / Fundational approach when creating my lessons. Each one builds upon your technique and polishes your skills at the piano.  I’ll teach you the “basic” shuffle groove and show you some licks to play over it.

This is the place to start if you want to learn the basics of Blues & Boogie piano playing. I'll teach you the "basic" shuffle groove and show you some licks to play over it. You'll also learn about sliding and crushing notes. Neighbor chords and suspensions.

Other topics included in this course are:

  • Sliding and crushing notes

  • Neighbor chords and suspensions

  • scales and chords used over the blues form

  • grooves and licks

Here's what one of my students had to say:

"Willie Myette is a brilliant teacher! Ask any question about your piano playing and you can be confident that he has the knowledge and experience to sort out your problem.

His videos are chock-full of great stuff taking you through your chosen lesson step by patient step, and the group coaching sessions give you even more insight into the mysteries of, in my case, jazz piano.

I've been learning with him for just two months and I can't believe I'm hearing the sounds that are coming out of my piano now - and it's me playing it!

Thank you so much Willie!"

This course is a very głód foundation for developing understanding of the blues. Easy to follow instructions that seamlesly got me playing. Eager to dive into next dvds of the series.

By George Baker on 7/16/2020

It was mostly review from the other blues courses I have taken from Willie, but there were a couple of new ideas mentioned, and pianists I'm going to check out, like Floyd Cramer and Professor Longhair. These will probably be helpful in expanding my knowledge.

By Mike Johnston on 3/24/2019

I enjoy the way Willie presents the information. It’s easy to grasp because he explains it very well; quite informative and fun. I highly recommend all of Willie's courses.

By Fred Lewis on 3/21/2019

Since I only have a couple of years of learning to play the piano, I like that Willie isn't jumping into really complicated stuff right away but shows how to get there.

By Rich Reuter on 6/15/2018

It's interesting information so far. It's a little basic for someone with a background in blues on other instruments, but I can see how it's laying the foundation for future lessons.

By Tim Davis on 12/26/2017

This approach has enough theory and explanation of formulas to get the AH HA! moments that have been eluding me and is also very concise and moves you along at a fast pace to keep you excited about learning.

By Donald Lowenstine on 10/3/2017

too much theory

By Chris Brown on 5/9/2017

This is a perfect beginner course for learning to play blues. The instructions are excellent and plenty of examples are given for learning the fundamental scales and cords for playing the blues. It is ideal to listen to the lessons, try playing the examples and then listen to the examples again.

By Peter Roberts on 3/6/2017

Really excellent first volume of this Blues & Boogie Woogie Piano course. Very well paced. Very clear instruction and good printed materials too. I'm really looking forward to volume 2 now. Thanks

By Jeff B Carter on 5/9/2016

Extremely pleased so far. Professional quality. Highly recommended for those looking to get a better understanding of chord progressions and how to play in any key. People taking course should have a basic understanding of how to read sheet music.
