Additional knowledge is provided by attempts to resolve errors in the given code examples on your own. ;-) The lecturer is reachable. Sometimes I got feeling that «Lazarus» is not in the top of his priority list any more. I took this course to fill my knowledge gaps as I am self-taught pascal enthusiast. I have stick to Lazarus/FPC when I searched the replacement of «Microsoft VisualBasic» at the time I have switch my desktop from «Microsoft Windows» to Linux. This course helped me to get better understanding of FPC world.

Outstanding introduction to Free Pascal and the Lazarus IDE by an engaging, interesting and well spoken instructor. I strongly recommend reading the appropriate section in the "The Little Book Of Pascal" PDF provided before and after watching the videos in that section. I think the course covers enough of the basics in detail, and is augmented by suggestions/tips plus lists/calls out a large number of additional available resources, that if you have no programming experience, you will do fine. If you do have a lot of programming experience in other languages, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by what is available out of the box with Free Pascal, the FPC compiler and the Lazarus IDE. There are more than enough examples provided as resources (and well explained in the lectures/'Little Book') that you can hit pause and explore 'what if' or 'how is this implemented in Free Pascal versus [your language of choice]'. Update: I recommend downloading the Embarcadero Community Edition. They don't hassle you or carpet bomb your inbox but the real reasons are: 1. The provided Help Files provide additional information and articles beyond specifying the purpose, parameters and methods/procedures applicable to your search term. 2. There are a lot more tutorials, books and articles available for Delphi. 3. (If you have used Visual Studio for years...) The Delphi IDE interface has a Project Explorer like you see in the course videos. (Minor point but something I missed after decades of Visual Studio/Intellij/PyCharm/Rider/CLion. 4. Once you have used the Delphi resources to figure something out, it translates almost exactly to Lazarus but without the 'no or few matching results' song & dance from your search engine of choice.

Its the first Delphi course I have taken hence I cannot compare it to another to make a far rating. My personal feelings, I was expecting useful program examples that I could use in real life situations, eg. Calculator, Application that can log specific data or word processor program. Some of the Lazarus programs didn't work hence I lost focus on the concept being thought instead got side track into fixing the problem which further demotivated me. On the upside, important points where emphasized nicely and reassurance given on the complex concepts. My suggestions is to ensure all programs work and reference the page number from your text book before the video lesson starts on a specific topic. kind regards Shane Naidoo

1) About the teacher My word for the teacher is professional. He can explain directly and exactly to the point. There are no misleading or problems throughout the lectures. He is not like those teachers that debug the programs in the middle of the lectures (I am not saying this is a bad point, just pointing out). 2) About the level 2.1. For Developers with Experience. I came from Android Development and I think the course may be a little basic, however, this does not disturb the devs with experience as they can only read the book and read the codes. I did watch the lectures but it was all of them 1.5x or 2.0x and the ones I already had a deep understanding I watched very fast. For me, it was better to read the book (I read in more or less 3 days), do the exercises and did not spend to much time in the lectures. 2.2. For Beginners For beginners, of course, it is necessary to watch all the lectures and pay too much attention. In fact, the teacher does not code too much with us, for most advanced exercises he has the code already written and then he just explain (for me this is a good point). I think that beginners will need to work a bit harder on the book and on the internet to get a good understanding. 3) About my experience with delphi I am using Delphi Tokyo 10.2 to work in this course. I confess I loved Delphi and Pascal, it is very easy to use and I think it is very powerful for the desktop. I am only doing this course because my company is using Delphi for a new software. Unfortunately, I can't find too many questions about Delphi on StackOverflow and most of the times it is difficult to find the solution online. 4) My Recommendation I felt a lot unpowerful while using Delphi because I come from Android Studio and AS is an extremely strong IDE, you have awesome code suggestions and a bunch of things. I felt weird with Delphi because sometimes it is not very helpful. What helped me a lot was to download the cnpack/cnwizard plugin that helps a lot while using the IDE, for example, it gives amazing code suggestions and a lot of shortcuts that can help you with your development experience. Thank you Teacher!

Very good coursze, enjoyed getting it as it's way better than whats found at YouTube. Maybe he could have gone a little bit more slowly with how the assignfile, readfile, reset seek write close and read were used. But then again, File IO is covered in the book. A little bit more self studying on my part maybe. His examples were creative, good analogies and quite modern, which is a very good thing keeping you invested and your mind on the course. Well done Huw!

Course was good but could only give it a medium rating for failing to show some way for the programmer to visual/graphically see how the classes are all laid out and behave. Without some type of diagram, class or uml, showing the final program, I thought you really missed an important fundamental. It would have made it so much easier to understand the OOP.

Mr. Collingbourne is a good presenter - aside from the English accent... :) - and I have heard many presenters. I located the course materials without too much trouble. And I have already learned things! Now that I have completed the course, I wish it went further in depth in some parts. I know, it's a beginners course. Where's Part 2? I can tell that Mr. Collingbourne is quite knowledgeable in Pascal and programming in general. It came through in his examples. I took it as a refresher course and am glad I did! It was worth every bit of the investment of time and money! I bookmarked many references. The next course: A Lazarus IDE Course. (I know, you use Delphi.) Economically, I have to go with Lazarus and FPC. It would have been great if Mr. Collingbourne would have had the same energy in his lecture presentations as he had in the beginning and ending personal presentations. Thank you, Udemy and Huw, for making this available!!!

The course provides encompassing foundation to start learning structured programming and object-oriented. I usually watch the course during my commuting time on the train and managed to complete it - and use the knowledge for my project. Prepare with a notes to catch important points - then, you can go back to the important points later by replaying the course. Huw is very articulate person, and he made hard concept like object-oriented programming a lot easier to understand! Thank you!

There is more to Pascal than I ever knew and HC seems to cover it all. I will know it better when I start to use it and am grateful to be introduced to the Lazarus alternative to Delphi. I won't be able to afford Delphi for some time so having Lazarus is a windfall. The course was engaging as was the instructor; I do not want to give HC a swelled head, but he is very good. The production quality was so good that it was only time constraints that forced me to put it down.

This course is really good to get the basics of Object Pascal(Delphi). It covers most of the basic information to get you started and valuable tips and tricks that will help you forever. Course materials are organised and video quality is A-1. However, this course does not include dealings with Database assuming that falls under the intermediate category. All in all, this course helped me to understand the basics of Object Pascal to a great deal. Would recommend for any beginners.
