It helps me discover more about VS Code than I already know. This course also gives me really useful tips that helps make coding more fun using VS code. A few issues I only have is that some extensions or tips that this course teaches are deprecated which is why some videos are not useful to me. But overall, this course is really great for beginners like me.

This course is great. It gives a very good overview of the most important functionalities of VS Code which makes me like this course more! (for the detailed overview we anyways have VS Code documentation :P) This course helps you to leverage VS Code to another level if you have already been using it. But one downside is that it is more concentrated on JS or I can say more towards web development applications(As I use Python language..but to know basic functions this course serves good purpose..as programming language does not matter for that)

Course is well put together. It covers all the keyboard short cuts needed to use the editor efficiently. The best part of the course is the list of extensions to install to take advantage of the many aspects of Visual Studio Code. I now feel more confident of how to navigate my code within the editor and be more productive. You can clearly understand the instructor as he guides you right along each section.

I came for the Source Control and the VS Code Live Share but I learned so much more than I expected about VS Code. I've been using it for a few months without really exploring the setup options or even very many of the features but James's course makes it easy to get familiar and highlights just how user friendly VS Code is. If you're like me and can't really stand reading the documentation, be assured that you will feel far more at ease with VS Code, whether you're coming to it from another application or, if you're like me and you're just starting out with coding. The modules in Section 7 were mostly beyond my comprehension because I don't know any JavaScript, but I was still able to take notes for that time in the future when I *do* have that knowledge. So many great resources, simple instructions, and no wasted time - James is efficient and easy to follow. He's also really accessible if you have questions; I've bugged him on here and on Twitter and his responses have been prompt.

James is an exceptional instructor who not only has deep technical expertise, but also a true passion for teaching. Coming into the course I did not know much about MS Visual Studio Code, outside of the fact that it existed. After taking James course I feel as if I have comprehensive understanding of the core capabilities of MS Visual Studio Code as well as an approach on how to navigate the MS Visual Studio Code site to get answers to any questions I may have in the future. Prior to this course I was using NotePad++ for text editing, now I can't see a world in which I use that application again. I would highly recommend this course to all who are interested in learning MS Visual Studio Code for the first time as well as those who are looking for a refresher. Thanks for an exceptional learning experience James!

This is one the few Udemy courses I've actually fully completed! James walks you through things very clearly and covers a lot in this course! I only deducted half a star because there are still some minor areas that can be improved but it is pretty good as is already. Each of the videos where James explain some VS Code shortcuts could use a quick visual recap at the end (Mac and Windows) because it'll take a while until one can memorise all the shortcuts. Maybe even a shortcut cheat sheet with only those shortcuts James introduced? The key binding inside VS Code and the official cheat sheet is just too overwhelming. I truly valued James sharing his favourite extensions, but some of the extensions seem to overlap too much e.g. 2 extensions to color-code brackets, or EditorConfig, Prettier, ESLint and TSLin which seem to be mainly either/or ... just one recommendation would've sufficed for beginners to get started. James has already completely updated the course since I purchased it so kudos to him ... but things change quickly and the TSLint bit is unfortunately already deprecated (which again to be fair to James, he has already acknowledged). Anyhow, I would recommend if you want to learn how VS Code can help you speed up development!

I have already downloaded and used VS Code to some extent, but I prefer to watch every lesson in case I missed something when I installed it. I'm now half way through and so far the course has demonstrated just how flexible VS Code is and how easy it can be to set it up exactly how you want it. I might go as far as to say that you could spend way too much time messing with settings and themes and extensions etc. The lectures really demonstrate that very well. After completing the course I'm pleased with it. I intend to use VS Code for other languages so I felt that the web dev parts of the lessons were a bit lost on me, but I appreciate that the principles of each will be similar. I found the course to be very comprehensive in covering each main aspect of VS Code and has given me enough to feel confident in starting to develop fully in VS Code. TIP: The videos can be quite quick, so have a notebook handy and jot down the interesting points. When the video finishes, pause, open VS Code and try it out. Then come back to video to review if you need further help.

This course was awesome. It definitely gave me a lot of amazing extensions and short cuts to help with utilizing VS Code. The only main drawback for me was the GitHub tutorial. I would have loved to see more on VCS between GitHub and VS Code. I couldn't get the baked in Git tools with VS Code to work, although that is not the fault of the instructor or this Course, but probably something wrong with my setup. It unfortunately meant that I couldn't follow the GitHub tutorial, which is what I bought the course for mostly. Overall though, I am satisfied with the course and I am hoping someone from the community will be able to answer my question regarding the missing Git integration from the source control section of VS Code. Thanks again!!!

I'm sorry to say that I'm disappointed with the course, and here's why: - Some issues are not up to date (I understand that a new video will be uploaded soon, so maybe this comment will not be relevant soon). - It seems like at times the instructor is surprised by the results of his actions within Visual Studio Code and that he is also not aware of the updates, so some things in the videos may not relevant (extensions videos). It feels like there was not enough preparation done before the recording. On the other hand, there are things that are repeated more than once. The result is that the course could have been shorter and more efficient. - In my opinion the lessons on shortcuts are superfluous. You can take a look at the menus and find them out. - There are many things that beginers may not know (what is Git?) and have to learn outside the course. - In my opinion the course is not for people that are new to coding. Having said all that, it's clear that the instructor is professional and knows a lot about Visual Studio Code. Also there many things to take from the course.

Below is what I said I think 2 years ago. Since then I have more experience with coding so it's really great to come back to this course and be able to really appreciate just how awesome it is. Extension that I didn't get or understand before I've now got working, and installed. I'm about to start section 4 so I'm sure I'm going to have more moments "Oh I get it now" I love the fact that there are working files from a project that you can download too. This was so what I was looking for as I have no experience with text editors after using DW for years. So I really needed to learn how to use this text editor properly now rather than learn as I go along. It's great to know all the possible uses even though I am not at a stage to use all of them yet. I wish there were working files to go with this course so I could try out more things like javascript files as I don't really have any decent ones.
