Welcome to LOGIC PRO X QUICK START: PRODUCING WITH LOGIC PRO X!

In this course, we will use the real-world experiences of the award-winning instructor and university music business professor Dr. Jason Allen. But don't be worried - Dr. Allen is best known around campus for keeping things simple, accessible, and useful.

Dr. Allen is a professional musician, top-rated Udemy instructor, and university professor. In 2017 the Star Tribune featured him as a "Mover and a Shaker," and he is recognized by the Grammy Foundation for his music education classes.

For years I've been teaching Music Production in the college classroom. These classes I'm making for Udemy use the same syllabus I've used in my college classes for years, at a fraction of the cost. I believe anyone can learn Music Production - and cost shouldn't be a barrier.

In this class, we will focus on the newest Logic Pro X software. Some people like to think of this as "Garage Band Pro", and it many ways it is. But there is a lot more to it than that. Logic Pro X is a full-featured program, but it isn't without its limitations. I'll walk you through what those are, some ways you can deal with them, and how to use the program to produce and/or record your music.

In this class, we will cover:

  • Differences between Logic Pro X versions

  • Purchasing Logic Pro X - The Cheap way!

  • Logic Pro for music production and recording

  • Installing and Setting up Logic Pro X

  • Creating a Project

  • The Arrange Area

  • The Editing Area

  • The Transport Bar

  • The Inspector Area

  • Media and Event Lists

  • The Mixer

  • Using Apple Loops

  • Beat Sync with Apple Loops

  • Adding a Bass Line

  • Adding Synth Tracks

  • Preparing for Mixing

  • Audio Effects

  • Built-in EQ

  • Audio Recording Setup

  • Recording Instruments

  • Monitoring

  • MIDI Recording Setup

  • Recording MIDI Tracks

  • Mixing and mastering

  • SoundCloud and uploading elsewhere

  • ...and much, much more!

And of course, once you sign up for Logic Pro X you automatically get huge discounts on all the upcoming parts of this class and all my other classes.

You will not have another opportunity to learn Logic Pro in a more comprehensive way than this.

The course is a roadmap to MAKING STUNNING TRACKS with LOGIC PRO X.

All the tools you need to produce great tracks are included in this course and the entire course is based on real-life experiences - not just academic theory.

I've used Logic so perhaps this course was too basic for me. That said, by biggest issue was the lack of depth. There were a few times the instructor's opinion was expressed in place of a description of the tool. For example, when exporting the audio file he expressed his personal use of the AIFF format but didn't explain that AIFF is restricted to Apple only devices. He also didn't talk about the notation editor because he felt it was too clumsy, a tool I use frequently. I was hoping for a description of tools, and their uses. Even if the instructor doesn't care for the tool, I think we as students should be given the opportunity to learn about it.

Such a good overview on Logic Pro X. I’m a Studio One User and wanted to check the other side but I think that I will stick with Studio one for now, Logic need some modern touch to it to make user experience smoother like ST1 does. Logic is a good program though and here are its biggest advantages in my view: 1. Virtual instruments, 2. Best deal for what you get with it. As to the instructor, you are very good at teaching, I just wish you had an in-depth class but you provided what I needed (overview on Logic); I just wish you would have touched busing but that’s okay. Keep up the good work.

It was a great match due to the fact that I'm eager to begin. I do realize that there's a lot more to learn but this course has shown the basics to quickly get started. My goal is to know this program inside and out, that's gonna take more time but me being familiar eases the process.

By John Taylor on 8/14/2022

Really good introduction!! It is BASIC basic, so definitely one I would say get on-sale rather than full price to be honest. It's gonna give you just enough to navigate the UI, make beats or record audio, get it in the sequencer and that's pretty much it. I stretched it over a week or so, but I think the best way to watch this course is to just make some time and spend an afternoon going through from start to finish. So far I haven't found a Jason Allen course I didn't like and I would LOVE a more in-depth course from him on Logic.

By Creed Huddleston on 11/27/2021

The course delivers what it promised: a quick introduction to Logic Pro X that gets the student familiar with the basics of the program and how to produce a simple track quickly. It is probably best suited for students who have some understanding of what a DAW is but need to learn the specifics for Logic Pro X at a high level. This is not (nor does it claim to be) an in-depth course on mixing or mastering, but it is very helpful with getting the student productive quickly. I look forward to some of his other courses.

By Gary O'Neill on 11/9/2020

I learned Ableton Live through Jason's Udemy Beginner Course and I loved the simplicity of his teaching. No fussing and to the point. I wanted to learn Logic and was delighted to see he had an online course for that too. Highly recommended for those who appreciate all things simple, concise and tangible.

By Aarone on 8/12/2020

really to point , love. the sections. that are 3 minutes long he just. covers whats needed and if. he needs 20 mins. hell talk about it for 20. if he. feels he can explain it. in 2mins. theres. 2 min clips in. tutorial explaining thing, I hate when teachers. go. 1 hour. about. irrelevant advices, great for wandering creative minds to focus

By Nick Likane on 7/26/2020

Exactly what I expected, ran through all the basics. You'll be dissapointed if you're expecting any editing, but rand through the basics of app and gave me confidence to get started. Drag dropping loops, adding effects etc. No modification of individual recordings was done e.g. fades, joins, corrections etc

By Alan Ernst on 3/14/2019

This course helped me appreciate LogicProX. I purchased it with my new Mac but never spent any time familiarizing myself with the program. This course helped kick start my interest in using it to write music. A little more information on how to use the keyboard to record piano, and edit it would have secured a 5-star rating. Well worth the investment!

By Peter Jensen on 1/30/2018

Probably the best way to learn Logic. I've bought Logic Pro for over ten years ago, and it's first now I learn how to use it. The books were too thick and complex, and the other instructional videos was too long and detailed. Here you learn how to make music in half an hour, and you are ready to dive into the program.
