Course Description

Course Update

Sep 2022 : Updated videos with better voice quality

May 2021 : Updated videos for BDD Implementation using Java Cucumber

Cucumber is one of the most popular BDD tool.

  • To Testers point of view, we can use this tool to implement BDD approach with Selenium, Calabash, Watir etc.

  • If you’re new to BDD and want to get basic to expert level understanding of BDD then this course is a right place to get started.

  • Cucumber is a software tool that supports behavior-driven development. Central to the Cucumber BDD approach is its ordinary language parser called Gherkin. It allows expected software behaviors to be specified in a logical language that customers can understand.

  • This course is designed to make you understand BDD basic to advance, Why to implement BDD in Automation project, How to implement BDD using Cucumber.

  • Before the BDD framework, everyone was using TDD. TDD works fine in software development, provided the stakeholders are familiar with the framework being used and their technical knowledge is sufficient. However, this may not be the case always.

BDD provides a path that acts as a bridge to overcome the gap between the technical and the non-technical teams because the test cases are commonly written in simple text, i.e. English. The main advantage of BDD is the low jargon and clearer approach which is easier to understand.

Its really a good course for BDD. Thanks instructor for clearing my doubts

By Mat Gookin on 10/30/2018

Topics were covered at a high level as expected. Setup and configuration were hit or miss. Some items were mentioned in later sessions others weren't mentioned at all. Content is also dated that may lead to confusion (executable_path has been deprecated).

I got what I needed out of this course. I wanted a basic understanding of cucumber and gherkin, and I got that. I liked that it showed how to setup Ruby to run in Eclipse. I've always programmed Ruby from a text editor so it was nice to use an IDE. Here's the things that irritated me about the course. He goes through painstaking detail to show how to install every part, including Java. Does anybody really need help on getting Java? But then he leaves out how to install or setup Webdriver. And that was the only part I had trouble getting to work. I ended up using the Firefox driver (geckodriver.exe) instead of Chrome Driver to get the final example to work. Also, on the final example, he doesn't actually test or verify anything! He just outputs a message to say that the test passed. Are you kidding? You create a whole course on automated testing, and you don't actually do a real test? This is why many people think that automated testing is a farce that doesn't find any bugs. Despite the reasons above and egregious spelling errors (unacceptable) in the presentation, I give him 3 stars because I got what I needed to get from the course. Thank you.

You will learn well the concepts of Cucumber and some basic Ruby programming that will help you progress with Cucumber in another language or continue with Ruby. Nonetheless, the structure of the course is a bit messy, some lectures out of date and the instructor isn't very helpful when answering questions.

By Bill Camphire on 8/2/2017

I'm new to Cucumber and this is a great course for me. Many times the instructor assumed knowledge from other courses, he has taught, was taught in this coarse and just passed over the setup or explanation. Even with that, this was a great beginners class.

By Arindam Bhattacharyya on 7/7/2017

The course explains clearly all the concepts and within a short span of time.

By Apzal Bahin on 12/7/2016

Its give a basic heads up on ruby and cucumber.Concept explanations are good. The arrangement of videos are not correct.Installation part is coming after explaining about cucumber. Please upload all the video clips recorded. Some concepts are not explained. While explaining the instructor is saying we have seen this concept in previous session but those sessions are not there. Please upload all videos to get full benefit of learning and money.

By Oluwaseun Ajibola Adiomowo on 10/19/2016

this lecture is very fast and also the course and its modules is not well placed and structured some of the modules on some installation of gem was towards the end in section 6 or 7 and he took a lecture in section 4 or 5 that requires such knowledge... hence i winessed a lot of errors

By Tarun Das on 8/21/2016

for beginners its defintely worth and its good,i suggest to add more core ruby programming in the course like how to integrate capybara or selenium with ruby and cucumber

By Deepak on 7/20/2016

Before these BDD sessions, I was thinking that BDD is very difficult thing-it was my assumption, But the way of explanation is best, and everything is clearly explained.
