The instructor was clear with information. The design was workable for a moderate learner. The color mixing was carefully explained and began with common colors that one would have on hand. My finished product was not pleasing to me so at the instructor's suggestion, I watched and repainted. Each time I learned more skills and ideas. I may try a 3rd time. I would definitely take another of his courses. Note: I choose courses based on skills I want to learn not so much to produce a finished product.

Patrick presented the course in a well-defined, well-organized manner. Following along the process of building a painting. Part of the time I watched the video lesson once or twice before painting. Later in the process, I followed along with him. Really a good watercolor course. The most important lesson that Patrick shared was to keep practicing. You're not going to get it right the first time if you're learning. Thanks, Patrick! I'm looking forward to have another go (or three or six) at the painting.

With Patrick's guidance I was finally able to create an artistic painting. I am an advanced beginning watercolorist and since I'm new to both drawing and painting the guidance I received in drawing the boat before painting was invaluable . Patrick gave lots of small helpful hints that turns a rudimentary painting into an artistic one. I think experienced artists automatically know when to soften some lines and when to add shadows but with Patricks help now I do as well and those little things are what make the painting! I plan to apply those instructions in my own paintings. Thank you!

I didn't know how to paint watercolour until I took this course. Having just completed it, I now have a good idea on how to tackle the dreaded white page! I have learnt some great lessons in colour, which brushes to use and brush stokes, and many good techniques. I will probably paint this same tutorial again a few times, so I can really build up confidence in watercolour. Patrick takes you through the painting in clear stages, demonstrating and chatting through what he is doing. I also like the way you can see him mix the colour too. I feel I have learnt lots just from this one simple tutorial. I highly recommend - thanks.

I liked the explanation of washes and technique and mixing color and the tutors interactions but I thought I would learn to paint boats not one boat in one position so for me I felt several demonstrations of boats and types of water and beaches would be worth the money. There was nothing wrong with the content so far but not enough of it that is why I rated it lower.

I found the information, delivery and style suited my needs as a beginner perfectly. As with a lot of online tutoring, I would recommend going through the whole course a few times before committing paint to paper. Some art courses can be intimidating to a beginner as the tutor often showcases their skills as much as teach you anything. Although Patrick Ley-Greeves is obviously a talented artist, he concentrates on you as the student producing a piece of work that will teach so many fundamental techniques rather than ‘showing off’. This is done in a relaxed and friendly style that encourages you to have a go. Highly recommended

Great course Patrick, thank you. I've seen many of your YouTube videos and find your no nonsense, friendly approach very encouraging. I would have given the course 5 stars but the angled camera I found somewhat disconcerting, looking directly down on the painting area would work better, but the information is priceless. Would like to see a course on plein air painting, simplifying the scene and grabbing the essential elements without getting bogged down in irrelevant details.

The instructor was very thorough in his explanation of the techniques used - he gave both the "hows" and "whys." Loved that he chose a simple subject matter and kept the pace up - not too daunting or overly complex. I think it had a little of everything for either a new watercolorist, or one with more experience. A lot of atmosphere in the final piece - just enough detail while still remaining loose. Thanks for the great course! I'll definitely be looking for more from you in the future.

Finished. Totally enjoyable and fun. It went at a good pace. Of course mine doesn't look like Patrick's but was not expecting it to. Color mixing was the hardest part (not having some of the same colors), I had to improvise. Planning on painting it again as Patrick suggested. Patrick is down to earth and easy to follow. He showed his palette when mixing colors which helped me with not only the color but consistentcy of the paint. I recommend this course. Looking forward to the next adventure! Thanks Patrick

I like the way the emphasis is on getting the drawing right - practicing until it's second nature. The use of color is key to prevent the painting from being boring, and showing the mixing process is helpful. Some of the description of the boat parts is a little over my head! Wish I could have seen the painted boat in larger detail so the explanation would have made more sense! The beach is wonderful, and the grasses at the edges make the painting so inviting. Will definitely watch more tutorials from Patrick as they become available. Just one glitch - Module 7 & 8 appear to be the same.
