Just wanted to swing by and update my rating. Fundamentally, this course will give you everything you need to pass the LPI Essentials certification. The course and the content started off really strongly. Great tempo, great information, and an eager instructor. I learned and absorbed a lot of information. Whenever I felt like I didn't understand something, usually a pass over the lesson slides and a second watch did enough to get the concepts down. Throughout the course, there were a few typos and pieces of (technically) incorrect information. For example, there was a slide somewhere that said SMTP is for sending and receiving email. That's not true. SMTP deals with sending. IMAP and POP3 deal with receiving. Still, having this kind of information present throughout the course is not going to be detrimental to your ability to pass the exam. Additionally, whoever was proofreading this probably gave up towards the end because the typos are rampant. Finally, my only gripe left is that some slides were missing from some lessons. They were in the video; however, they weren't in the downloaded resource for that lesson. I like to have the PDF open and the video playing side by side because I'm not fond of the sudden text animation (just what my brain prefers). I'm taking back my 5-star rating and giving it a 4.5. That said, despite the setbacks, I was able to check off all objectives on the syllabus. The questions after each unit also helped a lot and cemented the foundation I was building. I feel confident in my ability to pass the LPI Essentials exam thanks to this course, and I highly recommend it to anyone seriously wanting to pass.

While I am really starting to understand a bit better from this content versus others that I have waTched, I personally would like to see these things actuall be typed out instead of just some PowerPoint slde decks. But, I have been trying these commands on my own in my own virtual machine just the same.

Very detailed and lots of explanations. This course really reinforces the topics by providing examples of common uses and breaking down concepts into digestible information.

Definitely the most thorough Linux Essentials course on Udemy (I completed 2 others before this one). It covers all the exam objectives in the same order as the Official study guide. The explanations were very clear and concise. Some of the sections were very heavy on slides and would have benefited from more live command-line demonstrations. The sections that did have live demonstrations were very useful. Overall, I would definitely recommend this course if you are preparing to take the exam. I will be doing more of Jason's Linux courses in the future for sure.

I found the course very informative. There were a few questions in the final quiz that were not covered in the course material.

I am learning a lot. This instructor makes very dry content more bearable. I feel that I will be prepared for the exam upon completion of this course.

I am learning a lot and adding to my knowledge of Linux that I learned at Chattahoochee Technical College. This class is fun, and I can tell the content creator loves his job!!!

By Treye Chaney on 4/5/2025

much more condensed and current, easier to understand than some of the previously experienced courses on the topic.

By Brian Stephens on 2/8/2025

This course provides a great explanation of the Linux system. I watched three Udemy courses in preparation for the Linux Essentials exam, and this course by Jason Cannon is by far the best.
