Course Description
The conflict around estimates
Do you have a love-hate relationship with estimates? Businesses demand them but agile teams see them as something stakeholders use against them. In a complex agile project, an estimate can feel like a binding commitment and a stranglehold. In this course, you will learn how to create agile estimates that work for both your team and your stakeholders.
What you’ll get from this course
I created this course and packed it with practical, real-world experiences that I’ve gained working with Agile teams around the world.
This is primarily a “learn by doing” course. So all theory is paired with practical exercises we’ll complete together in your workbook.
With this course, you’ll...
Discover how to set up an estimation process that suits your environment
Gain in-depth knowledge of the most popular estimation techniques used by modern agile teams
Be able to identify and troubleshoot common estimation problems
Recognize when to re-estimate & when not to
Gain skills you can apply immediately via “9 practical exercises”
The practical exercises you’ll complete include…
Estimating the height of dogs using “dog points” (relative estimation)
Performing velocity calculations
Estimating using a reference point
Running a pointing poker session
Which estimation technique to use for various scenarios
and more…
Why learn agile estimation?
Agile estimation is difficult. Most teams struggle with it. When the estimation process is broken, estimates feel impossible to achieve, or overinflated. Stakeholder relationships begin to deteriorate. And management starts to push back on estimates, thinking teams can complete more and more, and are disappointed when unrealistic goals are not met. In defense, teams begin to spend too much time in planning, at the cost of building.
But how do you fix this? In a field where so many teams follow counter-productive practices, copying others won’t work.
This course will help set your team on the right path by showing you how to establish estimation best practices and troubleshoot existing issues
So Let’s Do This! Enroll now and sharpen your Estimation skills.
I’ll see you inside!

This is a very engaging course with the workbook as motivation to stay engaged in the activities. I have completed a lot of courses on Udemy and this is the first one where the lecturer freely shares his work so we can use it to look back on. Instead of taking notes, you are able to use the workbook and focus on what is being said.

This course was very helpful and easy to understand. It explained the difference between estimation and planning and showed why the whole team should be part of the process. I liked how it talked about using real data, like team velocity, instead of just guessing. The different ways to estimate, like planning poker and t-shirt sizing, were useful and simple. The course also explained common mistakes, like underestimating work or relying too much on first estimates. Overall, it gave good advice without making things too complicated

The course's comprehensive coverage of estimation techniques for both Scrum and Kanban has given me a robust toolkit to approach project planning and execution. The hands-on examples and interactive exercises have deepened my understanding of how to effectively use story points and velocity for creating more accurate estimates.

As an experienced Software Development Manager, there was very little in this course that was brand new material. Yet, the presentation and organization of the course was really well done and made me re-consider some of the patterns we've fallen into in our backlog grooming and estimating process. Easily worth the time for anyone in dev management who works in an Agile or Scrum shop.

It was a good basic course, but unfortunately missed one of the major needs with estimation, items that the instructor brought up at the beginning, that is rolling all of this individual estimation together to be able to tell a sponsor when the team will be able to deliver a module or project. Executives and sponsors need to be able to get longer term estimates from teams and they typically are not able to do this well at all. Individual task estimation for sprints is the easier part of this, conglomerating that information for a longer term estimate is more difficult, and yes those are definitely needed in organizations that try to practice agile. I would suggest the instructor add another section to address this high priority organizational need.

A required course. Most was already known from practice. The course does not elaborate how to estimate (and in general what to do with) technical debt. The only mention of a "developer story" may leave impression that developer stories in general (hence developer needs) can be just dismissed and are not relevant to business needs. More attention could have been given to the impact and mitigation of dysfunctional interactions between a team and management.

The course has a great pace, the materials provided are very useful and I really enjoyed the format and the fact that I can take notes directly in the slides. The fixation exercises were super helpful and made me realize how much I can still improve. One thing I felt needs improvement is the coverage of the User Stories. I think Raj could expand on that a little more, giving realistic examples

Good course to understand the Estimation and various challenges. Some topics seems very high level (like story creation) and probably if it is not included in this course then also fine for this course. Understood that we have estimated story so kind of bird's eye view for the same. It is good , if it covers some matrix/dashboards in deep that derived from estimation and completion of estimation.

I've been taking a number of courses to renew my SCM and PMP. This was the best by far. Interesting content, engaging presentation, reasonable number of exercises and quizzes that felt constructive rather than forced. I've saved off the 50 points document for reference. Definitely above expectations.
