Master Microsoft Outlook - Outlook from Beginner to Advanced (Udemy.com)

Learn how Microsoft Outlook can make your life more organized! (Outlook 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 & 365)

Our take

Based on the ratings of 3,650 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in April 2021. No course pays to be reviewed.

Kirt Kershaw's course walks through Outlook in three levels. Beginner covers email and contacts, intermediate covers calendar, meetings and tasks, and advanced adds shared folders, data files and archiving. It runs about 14.7 hours across 145 lectures, with 22 quizzes. It was recorded on Outlook 2016 and last updated in April 2021, so it suits office workers who want a structured tour, not a quick tip.

The ratings are strong. Of 3,650 ratings, 1,999 are five stars and 1,124 are four. Reviewers call the explanations clear and the material well organized, and one said it prepared them for the MOS Associate exam, which they passed with 920 out of 1000. The complaints are mostly about age. Reviewers say the ribbons and tabs are not where the instructor points. Others find him wordy or fast, and one called the presentation childish.

Length is the other cost. One reviewer lost focus around hour 11, wanted practice tasks instead of quizzes, and could not find the exercise files. For a beginner on Windows, or anyone studying for the 2016 exam, it is a solid paid option. People on current Microsoft 365 should expect to hunt for some menus, and Mac users will see a different interface.

Best forOffice workers who want one structured path from basic email to shared folders, or who are studying for the Outlook 2016 exam.
Skip it ifYou use current Microsoft 365 Outlook or a Mac and need menus that match what is on your screen.

Pros

  • Three levels in one course, from basic email to shared folders and archiving
  • Reviewers say the explanations are clear and the material is not overwhelming
  • One reviewer passed the MOS Associate exam with 920 out of 1000 after taking it
  • 22 quizzes and 28 short sections make it easy to jump to a single topic

Cons

  • Recorded on Outlook 2016 and last updated in 2021, so ribbons and menus often differ
  • Some reviewers find the instructor wordy, fast or repetitive across 14.7 hours
  • Mac users see a different interface, and one reviewer could not find the exercise files
Instructor is very knowledgeable and try to take into consideration that there may be students who are not that proficient in this field. The materials are well organized and not overwhelming.
Belle Hung, a student

Starts at true beginner and climbs to shared folders and data files. Outlook must be installed to follow along.

Once I got the hang of the course, and challenging by answering questions the only way you will know because I've taking computer science courses from schools and it taught me the measure as starting a business and an office administrative in hospitals, clinics, LA County departments, and courts through agencies.

By Ashley Remignanti on 9/10/2024

For some reason I did not have access to exercises. Rather than a quiz, it would help to have a suggested activity/exercise for the learner to try. I started to have a hard time paying attention at about hour 11 because so many of the features don't really sink in unless you use them regularly. A lot of the content was review for me but I still learned alot. The fact that the exercises were supposed to be in the resources and weren't was my biggest issue... besides the fact that this is pretty outdated in 2024 (even while still using outlook classic). Some of the quiz questions were just wrong because outlook has changed menus just slightly. Further, some quiz questions came BEFORE the content (I guessed and then the next section told me the answer). This might be a function of updating in pieces? It was okay overall.

This is truly and in-depth course and it is clear that the instructor has a very strong grasp of MS Outlook, as explanations are crystal clear and full of examples. The only downsize is the average high duration of videos, that sometimes tend to repeat the topics covered on previous lessons: however, the instructor shares multiple tips and tricks.

Really informative course. Maybe a little bit too fast for my taste, but you know, just focus more ;) If I will hear one more time about file extentions course I will break my pencil ;P To be serious, I like it, especially with the Outlook Kirt had to exchange emails with another person to help him demonstrate many options in real time (I know Kirt - you can break the time and space to speed it up, but still). Thank you Kirt and Kari :)

The course was wonderful! Learned helpful tips I didn't know even as a long time user. I especially enjoyed how the course was structured. At the end I felt as if I had a good working knowledge of all components. The section exercises were very helpful. I would love to see more exercises for practice. They really cement the information. I look forward to taking another of your courses!

I have taken a few of Kirt's courses now and have always found them to be incredibly thorough. There is so much more to Outlook than you think, and he presents information in a way that keeps you engaged. I would highly recommend any of his courses if you are looking to completely understand any of the software he teaches.

By Corey Duchemin on 4/14/2022

Good course and definitely is helpful. Only critique would be to shorten videos to bite sized clips on one topic to allow easy access to certain techniques or functions instead of under one longer video that encompasses everything. For example, breaking down Create & Send Emails video the breaks down how to create and how to send.

A complete course on Microsoft Outlook that starts with the basics and proceeds to teach advanced functionalities. I've learned a lot of new features that are practical and can be used on a day-to-day basis to increase productivity. The instructions are clear and the quizzes are challenging. I would like to recommend this course for anyone who wants to leverage the full potential of Outlook.
