Human Science

I am widely recognized as a leading pioneer of human science and an expert on contemporary approaches to psychology.

For thirty-five years I have studied human nature and experience in an endeavour to understand how we hurt and how we heal.

I have worked as a consultant therapist with those in deep distress, supervised research graduates at universities internationally, trained practitioners from multiple clinical disciplines, and authored text books that remain seminal reading for specialist professionals.

My teachings explain the intricacies of our mind, brain, and body in direct accessible language without compromising accuracy.

Understanding the mind, brain, and body, and how they interact is not an easy task. Too much science and we drift into the field of chemical formulas. To much metaphor and we drift into vague approximations.

Human Science aims to balance these two approaches to give insight into who we are, what we do, and how we became that way.

I am loving the content, it is very straight forward and very easy to comprehend. I have not finished yet but there as someone that has written a psychology paper on the methods of MBSR there are a couple of things missing. However like I said I have not finished the whole course as yet and I expect I may find that those components before completion.

The reason for taking this course and many others like this , is that I once battled with PTSD, anxiety disorders and extreme depression . I took a 8 week MBSR course and have been witness too their extremely beneficial positive changes in my overall well being , and now my purpose in my is to help others who suffer from mental illness.

For me, this is not true MBSR. It talks a little about mindfulness, the meditation is not a good mindfulness based meditation (I suggest listening to Jon Kabat-Zinn - the creator of MBSR) and I would hope that people who do this course do not go straight out and facilitate a so called mindfulness group - there is not enough information in this course to guide people to become facilitators. Also, I am unable to download or save any of the printable / down loadable material nor the zip archives (not that I really want them, but the system just won't let me save or download). I am so glad I only paid $16 for this course.

A very well-designed and sleek course on MBSR, a powerful mode for stress reduction and other many psychological benefits. The module has everything to conduct MBSR sessions in an effective manner. Everything about stress, its sources, nature, negative effects and how mindfulness alleviates it are included. All useful resources including related to meditation are provided for running MBSR sessions. Thanks to the expert Instructor, Paul Newham.

This is a very well designed course that covers MBSR - including the philosophy and psychology and the process of practicing it and leading a session. I really liked the way the concepts are explained methodically with clear colourful illustrations- and the detailed meditation templates. I will definitely download the media resources and use them in my work with clients.

I love the content, the delivery, the visuals, and the ease with which I can come and go from the course, taking it as I am able. I enjoyed every moment of this course! The explanation of why we suffer was concise, simple, and elegant. The technique is so effective, offering deep relaxation. I now have an endlessly valuable tool for myself and my clients. The resources are priceless! Thank you.

So far, the information regarding stress response has been well-presented at a level that is sufficient for understanding why MBSR is important and I find the content useful in preparing to facilitate MBSR with high school students. EDITED/UPDATED: I feel confident in my ability to use this information to facilitate MBSR sessions with students at my school. Included with the course are all the tools you need. Very good value.

I am three quarters of the way through and very happy. The scientific explanations of stress and breaking down experience into the components and description of 'confaltion' is real.....lly really helpful. I had not been intriduced to that before. The video of the main mbsr meditation got stuck so I downloaded it and will do it now and report back at the end of the course.

By Sophie Maracole on 5/7/2018

I have done a lot of courses on Mindfulness, and they have all been repetitive and fluffy. But this course avoids that by focussing on key cognitive processes and how they get tangled up. As a psychologist, I found the descriptions of this very insightful, and the materials provided useful for my work. I would really like the explanation of the ‘routine’ in part 4 in written format though, rather than the conversational face-to-camera style, which is not as clear as the rest.

By Sam Miles on 5/5/2018

Very good course. Meditation provided is high quality and alogn with the journal are immediately usable in a therapy or educational setting (I'll use them). The lessons are clearly presented and in depth. For me, it would have been a bit smoother if the mbsr practical lessons were at the end rather than the middle. But I can see why it's organized that way. Definitely a great foundation to build a part time business teaching mindful stress reduction to people.
