Our take
Based on the ratings of 353 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in January 2021. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a free, 74-minute introduction to mediation, split into 20 short lectures. It starts with what mediation is, compares it with a court trial, then covers the phases of mediation, types of decisions, stages of conflict escalation, and basic techniques for leading a conversation and asking questions. It closes with a small group exercise. The audience list is broad: teachers, social workers, nurses, parents, and anyone curious. There are no prerequisites, and the description itself says it might not make you a mediator.
Reviewers praise the clear explanations, and one calls the lectures concise and easy to follow. Another singles out the comparison of mediation and a trial, with the advantages and drawbacks of each. One working mediator enjoyed the history. The complaints are just as consistent. The presenter, Glory Boyadzhieva, has a strong accent, and some found the delivery flat or scripted. Others call the content basic common sense, say there are no practical examples, or found the animation and music before each lecture distracting. One reviewer thought the reflecting team section was fuzzy.
Most of the 353 ratings are four or five stars, and the 4.2 average fits a course that is useful but light. It was last updated in January 2021, which matters little for a theory topic like this. Since it costs nothing, an hour is a fair price to test the subject. Take it as a first look at mediation. If you want practice or deeper professional training, look elsewhere.
Pros
- Short lectures that one reviewer calls concise and easy to follow
- Clear comparison of mediation and a court trial, with pros and cons of each
- Free and only about 74 minutes, so it is a low-risk first look
- Covers conflict escalation stages and question-asking techniques, not just definitions
Cons
- Strong accent and flat, scripted-sounding delivery put several reviewers off
- Mostly theory and basic ideas, with no practical examples, per low-star reviews
- Titled a certification, but the data lists no certificate and one reviewer found no download button
For a free course this was pretty solid and useful. I found the reflecting team part a little fuzzy but clearer when I reviewed some of the video.
Listed for all levels with no requirements. Best for newcomers; some low-star reviewers found the content basic.

I am a mediator and have been meditating for almost six years. During this period, I have handled several cases ranging from family matters and inheritance to real estate matters, landlord-tenant issues, community disputes, and business matters. I am glad to know more about the genesis of mediation and how it was applied to the settling of disputes between countries and communities of old.

So far, this course is precisely what I was looking for. So well explained. The lectures are not congested, relatively concise, easy to follow, and you immediately learn much history and the basis for mediation. It takes the process from not mind or thoughts but the understanding and feelings as to why meditation plays such a vital role in society.

Was a well put together but some of the information was unnecessary. The heavy accent made it difficult to focus. The presentation seemed like basic information and general knowlegde

I appreciate diversity and I understand that those who are born in other countries may not embody certain nuances. I found it very difficult to lock in and engage in this course due to the facilitators' heavy accent. The presentation was also vocally monotonous with an excessive use of "i.e.", which was extremely aggravating. I would rather listen to an AI teach the course. However, the information is superb.

The course was laid out well. There was a lot of information to absorb and learn. However there were too many ie. that caused my brain to go off in a tangent for the next ie.. Also, as I am the only one taking the course, what is the point of the last module?
By Ashok Yende on 4/15/2022
It was good, and enlightening about the concept of mediation, the role of a mediator, stages in the process of mediation, interview techniques, the role of a reflecting team, bringing settlement with the assistance of a third party called a mediator. Wonderful process

At first I was troubled by the accent of the instructor but the content was so in-depth and good that by the end I was thinking how the instructor's accent was now helping me to concentrate more fully so it was a plus!

This is fantastic short and to the point lectures. It goes at a good speed which saves time which is my most precious and limited resource. Thank you for great reductions of information-mass in short segments!!!!
