Course Description

Want to develop applications for iOS and Android, but don't want to learn yet another programming language? PhoneGap is your answer. With PhoneGap you can develop complete mobile applications using HTML5, Javascript and CSS.

And, these aren't dumbed-down applications....
These are full-fledged mobile apps that can do everything from interact with device hardware such as the accelerometer, camera and geolocation tools to interacting with (iOS or Android) operating system to make phone calls or use Bluetooth.
In this soup-to-nuts PhoneGap course you'll learn everything from setting up your PhoneGap environment to testing your app on your phone or tablet device. You'll learn from extensive on camera demonstrations and be able to download the many examples you see the instructor create on screen. This course gets practical very quickly as you'll be working with the phone hardware and interacting with the same real-world API's that professional developers use everyday-- such as Google Places and Google Maps.

At the end of the course, you'll put it all together as you create full application using the Washington Transit API.  This app is similar to the types of apps being placed in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store every day!  You'll join the ranks of companies like Logitech and Fan React who publish PhonGap apps directly to all of the major app stores.

If you have a fundamental understanding of HTML5 and Javascript you CAN build mobile applications with the PhoneGap library. Mobile App Development is the single Fastest Growing Segment of Development-- Get in on the Action with Mobile App Development with PhoneGap today!

I really enjoyed the course and learned a lot; however, I have had a few questions, posted them in the Q&A, and didn't get an answer. I had to send a email to get one of my questions answered. I noticed in the Q&A, many other questions had not been answered, so I am wondering if there is anyone monitoring/answering questions in the Q&A. Additionally, the code for Section 13 lesson 59 was not included. It would have been nice to have it to review and refer to as I continue to learn and develop my own apps. Overall, a really good course.

Completed the course in 2 days and thought Mark was an excellent instructor, and the structure and content was spot-on... It helps having HTML/js knowledge coming in, but I am sure beginners can follow. Only reason I didnt give the extra star, was I really wanted more example code (e.g. Push notifications topic, sample train app etc). Just good concept to provide ALL sample code throughout such a course (it may be there but couldnt find it). Additionally, at the end of each topic it mentions a code challenge - I could not see/access any of those at the end of each topic - and would have liked to... Otherwise, a great intro course to PhoneGap - recommended!

In General I have problems to understand fast and do it and this was one of the few courses i did on coding that i could follow from beginning to end and it gave me a good foundation to start and new ideas. I really liked the way everything was explained and shown, all the provided examples links and information's and to see how much Mark does like to teach and the subject he teaches, There is a lot of engagement and i started to look already for other courses he did and subscribed to the You tube channel. Great for beginners but not only! Susanne

This course is great for beginners to Phonegap. even if you are not savvy with javascript and CSS you can still follow. The geolocation part needs to be updated. Chrome doesn't allow requests from sockets that are not HTTP. That tut part needs an update. asides that...am following so far and it been great. easy to follow and practice. Above all... it's very good for beginners and for anyone who wich to quickly jump into building apps with their existing knowledge in HTM, CSS, and Javascript

This course is for experienced/intermeidate level programmers, if you want to catch up/follow along with the lecture, you have to familiar with html, javascript, jquery mobile, ajax, json, or you will not be undertanding the lecture. The course is to introduce hybrid mobile development, you will encounter problems in geolocation section(cross origin issues) and last section: a metro transit project(no source file to download). If you are new to hybrid mobile development and want to know what and how it can be done with html5 techonlogy, this course is ok, but the prequisite is that you must know a bunch of technologies and have exepriences with them. One more thing, this instructor didn't even mention how to make an working apk(for android or ios) and install it on actualy device, I assume he think we know how to do it which is ironic...

Course is good for a quick intro to the Phonegap. However the instructor could dwell into more details on overall architecture of the phonegap. How is it different to HTML/CSS/Javascript , Where do Cordova plugins come into play etc. Also some of the sections lack resources and they have some details missed ( Eg: Section PushNotifications have resources missing. Also it didnt talk about the way the build can be made for iPhone. Also it didnt talk about GCM etc..). Overall I am still happy to have bought this as this as it lands me into the mobile world just in about 4 hrs and I can swim from there...

The lessons are useful and clearly explained for beginners. It would be helpful to have the sample tests mentioned in the course which are not available. Also one chapter of a lesson that was referenced and sounded interesting is not included at all which is quite disappointing. The final app build process also did not include sample code despite saying it was available. I found the instructor to be clear and easy to understand and the lessons were helpful in learning the basics of Phonegap but it is a real shame that exercise files and sample code are missing, from a beginners point of view they would have really helped to gain an understanding of this application.

Just what I wanted... a course that covers both PhoneGap and jQuery mobile. Also, I like that it's intermediate level, where the main points are covered thoroughly, but not everything is explained in minute detail. More than enough info is given for the student to look up anything needing a little more info. I like the course and I'm learning a lot.

Excellent Instructor. Highly trained and qualified. Went over all the topics with great detail and example exercises. With this course not only did I learn about the main concepts of creating apps with PhoneGap, but at the same time, it served as a refresher course for many details related to HTML, CSS and jQuery Mobile Programming. Highly Recommended.

First of all, this course has some great information. A lot of people don't even realize that mobile apps can be built with just HTML, CSS and JavaScript, meaning that you don't need to learn Swift and/or Objective-C to create iOS apps or Java for Android apps. This is a huge advantage when you're coming from the field of web design and development. On top of that fact, the tools being used are device agnostic and should typically work on almost any modern smart phone or similar device. Add in the fact that PhoneGap build can compile and deploy your PhoneGap-based mobile application across multiple platforms - iOS, Android, Windows Phone, etc. - and it can be a very powerful tool to know how to use. Mark is a very engaging instructor in the videos, and it's very evident that he loves what he's doing. That makes the learning process very positive in my mind. In a lot of the videos, you see him code as he's explaining what he's doing. Sometimes, he makes a mistake. When this happens, though, you get to see how he troubleshoots the issues, which is also highly beneficial to the learning process in my opinion. It's always nice to know that professionals aren't perfect either. My main complaint with this course is that not all of the code used in the videos is provided to the learners. All of the programming done in the course is also tested on an Android device. Personally, I use and want to develop apps primarily for iOS. It was frustrating at times not being able to get the code to work properly on my iPhone and not knowing where the problem was stemming from. Coding while watching the videos can be difficult at times, too, because the small video of the instructor that overlays the bottom right corner of most of the lessons obstructs the learner's view of the code being written. However, this didn't happen very often thankfully. The Q&A section of Udemy courses is usually a great resource when you're stuck provided there are engaged students willing to help others or an instructor who has the time to answer questions. Unfortunately, this simply wasn't the case when I took the course. Therefore, it was hard for me to troubleshoot issues that came up. I realize that answering student questions isn't a requirement of instructors on Udemy, nor do I think that it should be. I just think that it adds to the overall learning experience. I'm not sure if the questions I posted were even seen by the instructor because they certainly weren't acknowledged in any way. If the Q&A area isn't going to support the course content, then I could simply purchase a book on the topic instead. Overall, though, this course provides a wonderful introduction and overview to what can be accomplished with PhoneGap. I would recommend it for those interested in getting a start using PhoneGap or as a supplement to other material on the topic.
