Course Description

Covers App creation for iOS 8 and Android L

Corona allows you to create games and apps quickly which run on both Android and iOS without the need to write 2 versions. It's by far the easiest way to create complex games and applications in the shortest possible time.

This Mobile Game Development with Corona SDK from Infinite Skills will teach you how to create a mobile game with Corona SDK for iOS or Android. This course is developed for beginners, meaning no prior programming experience is required.

You will start by learning about the Lua language, then jump into how to display and animate images. From there, Whye will teach you about tap and touch events and how to use the widget library, including how to make buttons with widgets and create scrolling pictures. This video tutorial will also cover how to create text on the screen, manage a scene with Composer, and saving and loading files.

You will also learn how to display Sprites on the screen and animate them, as well as how to use music and sound effects in your game to create a scoring system. Finally, you will learn how to create three simple games: a physics-based puzzler, a memory match game, and a space shooter.

Once you have completed this computer based training course, you will be fully capable of creating your own game from scratch with Corona SDK. Working files are included, allowing you to follow along with the author throughout the lessons.

The chapters covered are great. Very informative and very well narrated. Unfortunately, this course doesn't cover Ads integration and deployment which are very important. I would have given 5 stars if it had those covered. Nevertheless a very good course!

Jay knows his stuff, and the videos are perfectly formatted to learn.

Good course. While a course will never be able to teach you everything within the Corona SDK (its that powerful), this course taught me the fundamentals and the concepts. This is the first and only training I have taken for Corona and I'm looking to deploy my first app into the Google and Apple stores in the next few months.

Doesn't explain whole code, skips a lot. doesn't explain why we're doing as much for example he tells you what he is going to type as he types the code but doesn't tell you why he is typing it, copy pastes lot of code instead of typing it and explaining

I feel like there should have been more on composer, showing function calls such as showOverlay as I think they'd be pretty convenient to use in a lot of these situations. Still a good course, and for the most part the instructor is very explanatory with what the code functionally does, but I think in the end I wish the example games used the earlier functions more such as the printing a high score or showing user's options that wrote to a file.

For Beginners, including me, It is the perfect place to start learning how to create mobile games using one language and distribute in different platforms. I really recommend it

Love how this course is structured with examples of the various learning points first and then putting it all together in creating games. It's easy to follow and replicate ourselves as we go. I do recommend, though, that you have some programming experience under your belt. With knowing how to program, Corona is similar to structures in other languages making it easier to grasp the concepts. So glad to find this course!

By Gary Kind on 3/26/2015

This is a great course which assumes no prior knowledge of Corona SDK whatsoever. In fact I would go as far as to say you don't really need any prior programming knowledge. Corona uses 'Lua' which is a beginner friendly language so you can quickly grasp the key concepts. The course explains all the basic info you need to get a basic game going. It is also worth knowing that Corona is now free for building native iPhone and Android apps so its worth checking out!
