Mitch Houston
My name is Mitch Houston. I have been in the music industry for over 15 years. As a musician I have traveled the world and played in front of thousands of people. As a song writer I have written and produced hundreds of tracks and released multiple albums. And as an audio engineer I have worked on projects that have circumnavigated the globe, as well as small local singer songwriter ep’s. I have worked on million dollar recording consoles all the way down to two input audio interfaces and everything in between. I currently own and operate a broadcast studio and a production studio in the states. We are producing and releasing MULTIPLE HOURS of audio each week. I love to chat with people who have a heart to learn about the science of audio and would LOVE to chat with you!
I graduated from the Conservatory for Recording Arts and Sciences in 2014, and have owned and operated my own studios ever since. I am Professionally Certified Audio Engineer, and as stated above, I have worked on worldwide projects all the way down to young kids who are recording their first songs. I also have been certified in Smaart Audio Analysis software, as well as Pro Tools Certified. I was the head Audio Engineer at PDC Productions in Oklahoma, and the audio that I created was played all over the world in major conferences and events. I have made a very good living in the Music Industry.

I think the information provided was spot on. As someone with some experience already, I wish I had access to something like this sooner. Unfortunately I DO have experience and so this was a bit too basic for my needs. I'd still recommend it to beginners though.

This course was very educational and I think you did a great job at hitting key features when it comes down to the mastering process. But i do have a few questions and you may have already covered this and I missed it But (1) Do you use side chain compression in your professional mixing (2) Do you use parallel compression and (3) do you use VU meters in your mixing and mastering process to double check volume and headroom?

Mitch is straight to the point, no bias or whatnot. I just wish this course had been updated with hands-on tutorial for mastering for Spotify, Youtube, iTunes and other main streaming sites (LUFS tutorial). Also wish you could make a tutorial specifically for iZotope Ozone (as I had seen in your plugins that you have one).

The instructor showed the difference in sound with the stock plugins and other more professional plugins sound. I to have the waves bundle so I was available to go along with the exact plugins he was using. Was really in depth about audio mastering as whole. I understood everything he was talking and everything new that I didn't know I caught on to very quickly from being an experienced music producer myself. I didn't really care to record vocals at first but now that I've been recording and engineering for some time now and gathered the right knowledge. I'm more confident in audio engineering as a whole. This class was smooth and very good paced.

Fantastic instructor, experienced and the course is detailed and the lectures are well planned. I recommend to everybody. I can't wait the next course hope it will be available soon. Mitch is created an amazing course here. Well done. I bought all of the courses.

Definitely not liking this course. The sessions are too much divided and the teacher repeats himself a lot throughout. You kind of watch him telling you "do this because it's good and doing otherwise is bad", but you don't get clearly why because it terribly lacks of theory. The only thing is that the teacher is cool and if you have no idea about mastering, maybe you will get some clues and examples to try out something. But you will just reproduce what he shows and won't be able to go far beyond that. For myself I was looking to improve my skills and knowledge but I don't think it will help.

Loved everything about the course, learning how to record instruments properly, how to record vocals and make them sit great in the mix, how to mix-down your song, and finally the part I really wanted to know about was the Mastering section. Great and informative, I would have loved to see the DAW in Windows and not a mac as we all don't have a mac yet ( cost is a factor ), also would have loved to see more done on Studio One, I use Studio One 4 ( just released ) I like it because it is user friendly and affordable in Windows format. All in All a great course to do I recommend this course for anyone who is thinking of doing their own recordings, Thanks once again Alan ( Dingo )

Clearly Mitch is very competent and well meaning, but I feel that if you need some of the basic music production explanations given in this course you probably shouldn't be trying to master a song yet. Also I think that the lectures are quite fragmented, section conclusions could very well be a part of the previous lesson so it wouldn't have multiple 1-min videos. That said, as Mitch himself stated, it's a course for people who want to elevate the overall quality of their tracks and release their own songs. It's pretty good at that, just don't expect in depth stuff.

Wow, thanks again for a great course! I'm glad I did your other 2 courses as well as it gave me a base from which to work. I feel confident that my songs will now sound much more professional than before. Thanks again for unveiling this mysterious world of sound! Looking forward to more of your courses as you are an excellent teacher for those who want to listen and learn! MusMan
