Course Description

Welcome to the course Operating systems Part 3 : Synchronization and Deadlock

Mastering the concepts of Operating Systems is very important to get started with Computer Science because Operating System is the program which is responsible for the ease with which we are able to use computers today to solve our problems by writing application programs like Google Chrome. The concepts which we are going to study is going to give a very good understanding of Process Synchronization and Deadlocks - one of the toughest topics of Computer Science. But believe me I made it as simpler as possible in this course. Lot of examples has been discussed just to strenghten the understanding of concepts. Also the topics are covered in a pace where even an ordinary student can understand everything.

Without using Operating Systems ,it is extremely difficult to communicate with the hardware devices of our computer. Every computer today has an Operating System installed in it. Through this course you will not only master synchronization in Operating Systems but also feel the real beauty of computer science.

In this course ,every concept of Operating Systems is taught in an easy-to-understand manner such that anybody who has covered my Operating Systems Part 1 course will be able to understand.

Come and join me, I assure you that you will have the best learning experience of not just Operating Systems but also the core of Computer Science in a different dimension.

This is the third course I've taken of the series. I give it 4.5 stars because some concepts were repeated so many times, that it was hard to stay focused on the topic. Still, the content is great. The only problem I had with the course is binary semaphore section, when the instructor says it is the same as mutex. Galvin and stackoverflow say they are not. Anyway, the course is still great, I'm going to proceed with part 4. Thank you!

The explanations are good, but it is very repetitive, videos could be more shorter if not repeating itself a lot. Also I was expecting a well planned video sequence, but there is no ending, the beginning is composed of tips, there are a lot of content somewhere in the middle and ends out of nowhere.

I am really delighted that I made the decision of choosing this course . It was really an amazing experience of learning. If anyone who is a beginner can opt for this course . The unique thing about this course is that the Vignesh sir explains things in a very easy way. He just don't put every new topic in a one go . He usually repeats things again and again so that one can understand the new topics easily.

From a programmers perspective, this course is worth gold! Indepth knowledge of what happens under the hood in the context of synchronization. The concepts and algorithms are explained in such great detail that it is impossible NOT to understand it. The pros/cons of each concept are also covered (as always) accompanied with many examples(problem) to solidify what you have learned. Mr Vignesh Sekar is a great tutor and a source of great knowledge!

Very grateful to Vignesh Sekar for this wonderful course that has not only increased my knowledge but also my confidence. He leaves no stone unturned to ensure that the topic is as clearly explained as possible. I wish I had found such courses much earlier. But better late than never.

Truly You're an inspiration sir. Specially this subject OS seems to be very dry while reading galvin and when watching some youtube videos. The main thing is that one can see the beauty of operating systems when he completes your course like as i did. The way you teach can cater all and completing your os courses i feel i learnt in the right way and how to look into the subject as it is. Thank you so much sir !!! Need much courses from you ..

I have taken this course for clearing my topics fo GATE20..... I thought it as basic OS topics covered in this course... but this course is beyond my expectactions... it covered every topic related to the gate and beyond but very helpul.... and the question covered in the course is really excellent up to the mark.... take 3 courses of vignesh sir you become masters in OS.... Sir understands students very well and is clearing every little doubt of students... The one thing is that he teaches very slow and the same topic is repeated multiple times in different ways which benefits to understand the topic practically and by this every topic and concept will be retained in your memory for long time... keep watching patiently or do 1.5x speed going to enjoy without putting extra effort to your brain and when the course will end you will never know... topics is organised very well and the course content is excellent... message to the sir is by becoming your student, you became inspiration in my life, u r very gentle and humble... and always remember that I learned complete OS from u... a gratitude for your magnificent teaching !! Thank u...

Hello! My main motive of taking the course is for my University Examination. As such, the instructor covers all required topic which is necessary for semester exams perse. The explanation is quite clear and he tries his level best to make us understand the topic quite well, which is absolutely fine but in this process , he just makes his video a little long, ie a video that can easily be explained in 5 mins is about 15 mins long, so a lot of points get repeated and thus waste time. Now, it can both be advantage and disadvantage, it's upon you, how you like to see it. Also, programming concepts are not explained, and that's personally for me, a big turn off. Nevertheless, you won't regret taking this course as the instructor is just awesome!! I hope, i can score full marks, not because of my own hardwork but because of the efforts the instructor is putting to make us understand these topics.

I am Mattia Mellone, an italian student at Politecnico di Bari. With this review, I really want to thank the teacher and all his work with the OS courses, here on Coursera. Thanks to this course (I have followed all the 3 different modules) I had the chance to pass the OS exam at my university at the very first try. Just for your knowledge: the OS exam in my degree course is one of the most difficult exams of the entire degree! So, thank you kindly for all you have done til now, I will recommend your courses to all my friends and colleagues! Best regards, Mattia Mellone
