Course Description

The  course on Facilities Planning and Management is part of the Operations Management Training Program which includes a number of eight sections also presented as individual courses for your convenience.

Real estate and equipment are major corporate investments. That's one reason why facilities management is important. Acquiring, managing, and disposing of these expensive assets in the company's best interests is vital to business success.

Facilities management encompasses financial planning, architectural and engineering services, and space management. It's integral to corporate strategy – for example, whether the strategy is to expand or contract. And it's also important because it helps create a productive and safe work environment.

Facilities managers are responsible for satisfying the expectations of many different clients, both internal and external. They help make key decisions about location and layout of facilities to minimize disruption and cost. There are different facilities management styles available that are dependent on the size of the organization, the number of locations, and whether the organization is public or private.

But whatever the organization, robust strategies must be developed if facilities are to be managed efficiently and effectively.

This course addresses the basics of facilities management:

  • you'll learn about what facilities managers do and why their job is important,

  • you'll learn about the different styles of facilities management and about the process of developing a facilities management strategic plan,

  • you'll be introduced to relevant factors for choosing a business location and selecting an organizational layout, and

  • you'll learn about location and layout considerations applying specifically to service organizations.

This course will equip you with a basic understanding of the principles of facilities management. This can help you better realize how effective facilities management can contribute to business success.

That’s it! Now go ahead and push that “Take this course” button, and see you on the inside!

The exercise allowed me to effectively process and apply what I learned in a structured way, but adding more real-world context and deeper critical thinking on challenges would enhance the overall reflection.

Submitted after 19/27 - The course is not entirely what I was expecting, or had hoped for. I had hoped for more visual, and virtual learning... and had hoped that the Resources would include useful tools and/or templates. This course with its MP3 files could simply have been a 'PodCast', almost entirely audible. That being said, the content is meaningful and useful.

I started this course with no background in facilities management, eager to learn more to better understand the company I started working for. I have found this course easy to follow and easy to understand the subject matter. I am so happy I came across this course, it has provided me with the tools I need to grow within the company I work at.

I think this course is very informative for someone thinking about making a career choice in Facilities Management/Operations. This would also benefit supporting roles to understand what is involved in Facilities Management and how best to contribute to the team.

By Sshley Hernandez on 7/30/2022

A concise and well-organized course that covers all the fundamentals of operations management. The instructor is very clear, the examples are relevant and easy to follow, and the presentation is engaging. I've learned a lot and will definitely be recommending this course to my friends.

By Evans Ubani on 2/27/2022

This is an eye opening program I so much enjoyed, time was my biggest challenge but I finally had it, I was so deep into the program. It broadened my mind on so many responsibilities as a facilities manager.

By Angelika Krejci on 6/15/2020

This course is exactly what someone going into management consulting (like myself) needs. I did my first round and my interviewers were impressed with the things I did from the operations management thing.

By Aiden Jack on 4/19/2020

I found this course very interesting and helpful. I have experienced myself some of the situations mentioned in the course. I can now see what went wrong when I was dealing with a difficult customer and how to improve when a similar situation arises in the future.

By Virgilio Alaez Perez on 4/18/2020

For the introduction of the course, I could perceive that the structure of the course and the engagement with the student is not the easier way to learn. Communication skills is a important part for online courses, apart from the content.
