I'm a beginner and I'm confused with this course. You cannot see scheme during explanation. No reference to fingers. I feel all this stuff like a mess. Will search on YouTube somebody who have ability to explane more accurate.

This is a well constructed basic bass course on the pentatonic scale. It is easy to feel successful as long as you practice. The basic steps are easy and easy to have fun noodling and jamming along. You are encouraged to play with the scales and make up your own riffs as you jam. I think this is a great short course for getting your feet wet and having a bit of fun before taking one of the more serious courses.

This course is quick and to the point. The instructor take something that could be confusing and makes it easy to digest. This is a great course for someone that is new or wants to re-learn some basics in a new way. Highly recommended.

I really like that pentatonic shapes were not presented related to tab-like fret numbers (some specific field) which is often misleading for beginners. Instead, it teaches you to think in relation "root note - shape". Great tutorial for everyone who wants to learn pentatonic shapes. No need to look further! Thanks for this tutoriual "Bside".

This is a great short course. The instructor has a friendly and fun teaching style and the written support materials are great. This is a way to learn the pentatonic scales without having to learn the notes or go deeply into music theory. I would have given it 5 stars if it had also had jam tracks to go with the jam videos.

I am no expert but have been tinkering around as a bass player for quite some time. This course is not well put together. It does cover the very basics in an exceedingly simple style. It does a poor job of explaining or providing examples of how to stitch the building blocks together to make a useful whole. The only example that he tries to provide actually contains an error in it where he's chosen to play the wrong note. This wouldn't annoy quite so much except that the whole point of this course is to teach "shapes" of notes which you can stitch together, and the one and only time he really does this, he introduces a note which not only isn't in the pentatonic minor scale he's playing, it doesn't sound good. (Specifically, I'm referring to a B note which is played on the E string, when the correct note to play there would presumably be the C, from the 3 shape lick lesson.) It's also clear that this was filmed rather impatiently. There are plenty of muffed notes throughout. Some of his explanations are less than clear. I hate leaving such a negative review for the first and only thing on this website I've seen, particularly when it was free, but it is simply poor. If you are a brand new player, there might be something useful for you here, but do not blame yourself if you get confused, just look at some other resources to clear up any questions you may end up with out of this.

Yes, it is definitely a good match for me. I have been watching instructors teach this, but I was not able to catch on because they were mostly demonstrating instead of breaking it down. Here, I am getting the break down at a much slower and understanding pace.

Bside breaks down things and makes them easy and fun. I'd learned Pentatonic scales in a book but it was confusing and cumbersome. Going over it again in this course smoothed out rough edges. What I thought was just going to be an easy course, that I took just because it was here, ended up being incredibly valuable.

Fret buzzing, sighing, and presenting the shapes in reverse order? Presentation would be great if there was a split screen showing the fretboard shapes and the actual playing of the shapes. Scales are not the easiest of music topics to teach, but once you understand how they work, you'll start to hear them in songs. Great job on a tough but important musical concept!
