Josie McKenlay
With nearly 40 years of experience in the health and fitness industry, I bring a wealth of knowledge to every course I teach. I began my career as an aerobics instructor in London before training extensively in Pilates and yoga in the late 1990s. Since then, I’ve built a diverse portfolio of clients, delivering private classes across London and the Middle East, and contributing a lifestyle column to a Dubai‑based sports newspaper.
My passion is helping people improve their wellbeing through safe, evidence‑based movement practices. Over the years, I’ve expanded my expertise with training in aerial yoga, self‑myofascial release therapy, Barre, indoor cycling, and special populations, including seniors, pre- and post‑natal clients, and those managing chronic health conditions.
Teaching on Udemy allows me to share this knowledge globally in an accessible, affordable way. My courses are designed to empower fitness professionals with practical tools to adapt their skills for diverse populations — from senior fitness training and exercise adaptations for older adults to back care, postural assessment, and nutrition education.

Josie is so encouraging and knows so much about dealing with 50 plus seniors. They are at such different levels of fitness and it is so encouraging to be able to offer the hope of progress for health in the later years by doing exercise.

Excellent course. It far exceeded my expectations. I was amazed at the level and amount of content I received. It was all very knowledgeable and well presented. I highly recommend it to any fitness trainers and to anyone working with seniors, great knowledge to have for yourself too.

I am half way through the course and am finding it extremely useful and informative by building on my experience as a fitness instructor. However, I find the assignment question slightly ambiguous and a couple of times have steered my replies to what I thought the question meant. Moving forward it would be helpful to be more exact in what the questions require of the answer. Also, some more up to date postings would be great as we are now in 2025 :) Many thanks.

This course is just amazing! I was expecting a lot of information as I have the experience of Josie's Pilates courses, but I did not expect so much of valuable knowledge, englobing an incredible amount of information concerning illnesses that are likely to occur with aging and what to care about. This is no course for people who are not involved in training clients in that age range. If you have to deal with elder persons and want to know how to deal with their conditions and train them safely, do not hesitate, book it!

This has been very informative for me. I am use to multiple choice courses, so it has been challenging for me (taking lots of notes I am sure will help me remember what I have learnt)

Loved every minute of this course. Full of information but not boring. Also lots of relevant exercise examples for this age group. Really informative & great for furthering your knowledge.

Yes. I especially liked the chair fitness sample and the osteoporosis pilates section. I have been teaching to seniors and population with health issues, and this class had taught me a few useful tips.

This course was an in-depth recap of conditions that is common in the elderly population. Gave clear guidelines on what to focus on and what exercise to avoid and focus on. Overall good course.

This is a very good match for me. I did Josie's Course of the Comprehensive mat Pilates and although I have been doing and teaching Pilates for the last 20 years I still learnt a lot from her. This course is a good fit for me seeing that the population I work with is older and there are a lot of of people recovering from surgery and injuries.
