Our take

Based on the ratings of 229 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in May 2016. No course pays to be reviewed.

Syed Raza's course is a 2.8 hour walkthrough of PowerPoint 2013 that borrows its outline from the Microsoft Office Specialist exam 77-422. It has 21 lectures across six sections, covering slides, shapes, transitions, animations and ways to polish a presentation, plus a screen recording segment. The audience line says beginners and power users, but the content leans basic. The last update was May 2016, so it only makes sense for people actually running Office 2013.

Of the 229 reviews, 191 are four or five stars, and the overall rating is 4.3. Reviewers call the teaching clear and step by step. One who already used PowerPoint says they still picked up 2013 features, and another says the screen recording part was new to them. The complaints are steady, though. One reviewer found the speaker flat and the Microsoft audio hard to hear, another said the pace is slow with repeated steps, and two called the material basic. The sharpest criticism is that it does not really tie back to the exam.

The course has no quizzes or practice tests, which matters if the certificate is the goal. One reviewer asked for practice presentations to try things out, and the syllabus shows none. Treat it as a short refresher on the 2013 interface rather than exam prep. If you just want to build tidy decks in an older version of Office, it does that at a gentle speed. If the exam is the target, plan to add a proper practice test.

Best forCasual PowerPoint 2013 users who want a slow, step by step tour of slides, shapes, animations and screen recording.
Skip it ifYou need real exam prep for MOS 77-422, or you use a newer version of PowerPoint than 2013.

Pros

  • Reviewers describe the lessons as clear and step by step, easy to follow along
  • Only 2.8 hours over 21 lectures, so it is a quick way to get through the 2013 interface
  • One experienced user still learned new 2013 tools, another picked up screen recording
  • Description lists the 77-422 exam objectives, from slide masters to tables

Cons

  • No quizzes or practice tests, and one reviewer says it does not tie into the certification exam
  • Last updated in May 2016 and only covers PowerPoint 2013
  • Pace is slow with repeated steps, and one reviewer found the audio hard to hear
Very clear instruction and step by step. I enjoyed this course. Thanks.

I thank to Udemy and the course instructor to give me a wonderful opportunity. I learn a lot and apply it in personal and professional career.

By Casper Wu on 3/13/2019

The introductory part is too basic. I see a value for a novice user, but it would be nice to be able to separate the content or skip it through a test mechanism.

By Stephanie Shea-Tenne on 11/12/2017

As a true bonus it would be useful to have some practice presentations to try out what we learned and to then develop questions that we probably wouldn't come across until we are actually working with PowerPoint.

By Karen B Ferrantelli on 6/28/2017

speaker is not engaging and the info from microsoft is difficult to hear. Still not engaging but good info. I also found it odd that one person briefed the course then another taught the course.

By Samantha Lenz on 3/27/2017

I think this course was very well done! Even though I have used PowerPoint in the past I definitely came away from this course having learned some new tools, especially the new functions in the 2013 version.

By Enzo Coloso on 12/14/2016

Great and Powerful course that teaches you the basics of powerpoint and guides you into the details on how to become a micrisoft office specialist. The course is well presented and clear. This course will be able to help you to create more presentable powerpoint slides. Thank you so much :D

By Robin Daroczy on 5/12/2016

The pace of the lesson seems a bit slow. I understand this can be addressed by changing the speed myself. I also feel some points are repeated unnecessarily. For example, it is enough to show once how to insert an image or diagram.

By Mark Trevor on 4/26/2016

Excellent course with great instruction. This course gave me a solid step forward in preparing for the PowerPoint certification exam. Both audio and video are excellent. Thanks.
