I have been teaching music theory for over 30 years. As a peripatetic music teacher I have helped students of all ages with their theory studies. I can help students studying with any examination board but I mainly teach the ABRSM syllabus. I play saxophone and flute and gained a DipABRSM certificate in performance during 2008. Over the last eight years I have been teaching theory 'one to one' via the internet to students around the world. At present I teach in the UK, Ireland, Australia, USA, South Korea, India, Singapore and Sweden. I have recently started teaching the new LCM (London College of Music) popular theory syllabus. This syllabus is now often used as a prerequisite to enter performing arts universities. I am also a WJEC (Welsh Joint Education Committee) examiner marking the GCSE exam papers in Wales UK.

If I was a total beginner I can't say this would prepare me. It's good for a recap of the content but not enough to actually teach you the concepts. Only using for revision and reminders rather than to study with. Many of the concepts are just a brief overview and not clearly explained.

Perfect course for anyone wishing to take ABRSM Grade 1-5 theory or just wanting to learn more music theory in general. Michael was great at explaining, gave plenty of examples, and answered any questions I had promptly!

I'm very satisfied and happy with this course, and would recommend it for anyone looking for a One-stop Shop/ Crash Course for ABRSM Music Theory Grades 1 to 5. It's good value for money, given that music books or a music teacher covering the same concepts would cost a lot more! The lessons are arranged systematically in bite-sized pieces. The instructor's voice and diction is clear and easy to understand. (For those complaining about the 'lack of enthusiasm or energy' in the instructor's voice-- you simply have to speed up the video speed!) The concepts are communicated in great detail, covering the tricky areas as well. The Quizzes at the end of each topic are also very helpful. The Interval Chart taught in this course, is awesome and extremely useful and probably the only one of its kind available online or anywhere -- I haven't seen it in any other place! This course is very comprehensive and I'm actually enjoying what I thought I would dread. The only issue I have is that there are some Quizzes where questions regarding some topics appear before the topic has been covered. This can be very confusing for learners, and needs rectification. Another potential issue is that since the ABRSM Music Theory Exam for Grades 1 to 5 is now going to be conducted exclusively Online, some of the content may need to be updated for this -- for eg. since there's no need for a pencil, I doubt we will be drawing scales in the online version. However, the Quiz question format in this course is probably similar to the Online Exam format.

Great focused material on preparing for the ABRSM exams. Taught in a simple to understand, step by step manner. Material is not too difficult to grasp and understand and there are quizzes at the end to monitor progress. I look forward to doing more practice and even moving onto the higher grades.

Mr Luck's course makes the journey from ABRSM Music Theory 1 to ABRSM Music Theory 5 more manageable. Every bit of music knowledge is carefully carefully explained through easy-to-remember concept boxes and hands-on practical exercises. Many Thanks and Best Wishes.

I thought this was a great course and it was very interesting. The only problem I had was that the quizzes at the end of the modules were too simple. Maybe it would have been better to include some questions similar to the ones we would see on the exam. I haven't taken the exam yet so I don't know how much this course actually helped me, therefore I can't give an entirely accurate review. Nevertheless, the course was good and interesting so I'll give it a 4.

I found this course extremely helpful. The explanations were clear and concise. The worked examples were very comprehensive and understandable. Even though most of the subject matter was revision for me I learned many new things. There were a couple of minor issues with one of the quizzes but my query was answered within a few hours and the problem corrected. Congratulations to the instructor for a fantastic course.

This course is excellent value. So much informative and relevant information which is presented in a very clear manner. You are taken step by step through the syllabus material from grade 1 beginner level all the way to grade 5 a more advanced level. I would recommend this course to anyone wishing to gain a grade 5 ABRSM qualification or anyone who needs to recap on their theory skills. Hope to see grade 6 in the near future.

I'm- very pleased with this course. Lots of tips, hints and how's to. Notice that you need to take notes. Some additional resources are given, however with the videos was enough. Notice that this course is about strategies for the test, so you might want to check some additional material on music theory if you are a newbie (although additional material was provided, I didn't check). For sure this will help people intending to take the test. I have no chance to do it, however, several online resources and trainings mention "an equivalent ABRSM grade * is suggested to take this course" so this is a very good resource to find out the skills you need to master to be able to follow them. Highly recommended
