Course Description

If you want to learn to program in Python in far less time than you previously thought possible then read on.

The world today is a hectic place.  Most of us have very little spare time. Once we have worked (or studied), slept, spent some time with friends and family there is little time left to think about a career.

In order to become a software developer you need programming skills.  But how can you get those skills in the minimum amount of time and still have a life along the way?

This course was designed to teach you the essential Python programming skills you need to get your first programming job, or perhaps a promotion to a more senior position.  And to do it in the shortest possible amount of time.

Do I need to learn 100% of the Python language?

No!  To understand how this course can help you, there is a need to understand how programming languages are constructed.  The creators of these languages try and add every single feature they think someone might need, ever.

A large part of the language rarely gets used, and sometimes not at all.  It's the same with software.  If you have used a spreadsheet in the past, I'd lay odds that you use it for basic spreadsheet work, and you rarely, if ever go into some of the advanced functionality.  The basic functions of the spreadsheet are what most people use.

Imagine if you had to learn every feature of the spreadsheet program?  How long would it take, and would most of that information be useful to you?  Especially if you were learning it to get a job and that job only required basic spreadsheet skills.

Switching back to programming, if your goal is to get your first programming job, then why not only learn what you need to achieve that goal.  And worry about the other stuff if and when you need it.

That's what this course is all about - giving you the skills you need quickly without any fluff or useless information.

The course is aimed at complete beginners
.
We assume you have never programmed before in this course and start from scratch and show you step by step how to download and install the tools, through to writing your first programs, and from there we move to more and more of parts of the Python language that you need to understand.

If you are already a programmer, you will still find value in this course - It's very common for programmers to want to learn a second or third programming language, and doing so makes you more valuable and opens up career opportunities.

As this is a crash course you can get skilled in Python, fast.

Here is what a student said about another of the instructors courses.

"This course is very good, the instructor makes the learning process easy for a beginner in Django like me, highly recommend this course." - Steven Fraser.

What version of Python will I learn?

All videos in the course have been recorded using the very latest version.  Python 3.  It's recommended that you follow along with that version, but if you have an older version most of the course should work just fine.

Keep in mind there are constant updates to Python.  So if you see a newer version when you are installing it, then use that version.

What will you learn in the course?

You'll learn the essential Python skills needed to become employable as a Python developer.

  • Creating a Python basic program

  • All about the setting up and running Python programs

  • Data Types, Variables, Conditional Processing, Loops, Classes, Operators, Expressions - all the good stuff.

  • Check out the curriculum on this page for a list of what is covered in the course.

In the course you will work with a lot of Python example code.  You will start with Python code that was badly written.  You'll see why it's bad, and then as you progress through the course, you will improve it and make the code bug free.

This approach, along with smaller snippers of code will help you become a programmer as well as think as a programmer.  And as a result you will learn how to get the most out of Python.

What about course updates?

The course will get regular updates - We already have a document in the course that outlines what content is still to be added - We envisage it will be around twenty hours once done.

What about the instructors?

He has experience building products from scratch and scaling to global users.

Here is another comment from a student in one of Faisal's Udemy courses.

"I'm currently in a Full Stack Program and this course is breaking down Java in a simple way for me to understand. This course has helped me tremendously with my vocabulary and comprehension" - Robert Y.

What about if you have questions?

As if this course wasn’t complete enough, Faisal offers  full support, answering any questions you have 7 days a week (whereas many instructors answer just once per week, or not at all).

I just finished this course, and it really was a crash course! So many programming techniques and theories condensed in short, easy to follow videos. I have a B.S in IT, and honestly think this course can be understood by beginners too. Though a basic understanding of object-oriented programming would be useful to get the most out of this course. But you can re-watch the videos anytime. Also, I did not use PyCharm while learning, I used Google Colab, and was able to execute all code just fine.

I'm enjoying this class. It's clear and straight to the point. Much appreciated.

By Vladimir Handl on 12/7/2023

This is course is good and gives solid information. However, it leaves things unfinished. For example, at the beginning of Section 10, you have to prepare the project - four files and several empty Classes in each. From the context, it seems that the project will be worked on and finished but it is not touched again. Similar things happen more times when the presenter says something will happen and it does not. It seems the classes are part of a larger course that were cut out of it. Otherwise good and informative course.

Very thorough, perfect for absolute beginners in coding. Don't know about being employable directly after the course, but I feel very well prepared to venture on from here on

Excellent course so far and the instructor Faisal explains everything so well and to the point. The Q&A section is very active and Faisal replies to all the questions put forward by students. Highly recommended.

Overall course looks good. I felt bit confusing initially because of the way how the course is explained, later realised it's different. Due to the first time learner, I felt some of the concepts flew from top of my head, but I have to watch them multiple times to understand the concept much better. Thanks for the training!

Sometimes difficult catching some words from Faisal! While he is giving instructions it is difficult to pick up some words. Overall his teaching is very good.

By Robert Barrett on 2/13/2023

I was completing the course from the perspective of having learned python before, but had been working with VBA projects and wanted to remind myself of the key differences. This short course certainly helped remind me of the core principles and quickly goes through the main content any beginner would need to know to get started. This would be a great first course to see if you like programming and have a good understanding of common principles in many languages without having to spend 60+ hours as per the usual full-on courses. A little bit more on the OOP section would have been good, it ends a bit abruptly and I feel another hour of content would really help to round it out.

Firstly, Congratulations and thanks to Faisal for putting together this course. I am still a newcomer to python, and programming, so any training is of benefit. I liked the fact the course was c.15 hours in length; which is an achievable study time. I did not like the HammerBitcoin project. I thought the concept of the project and the project name sounded mangled. I would have preferred a non bitcoin related project that enabled me to follow along typing in the code from scratch; rather than copy in blocks of code. I am not interested in bitcoin as a concept so a project with a different focus (without a link to github) would have been better. I would have liked a real drumming down on the fundamentals of programming in python. What I have experienced, in my own profession, is that what seems obvious to an expert is not obvious to someone with no experience. But, it is not easy to pitch a course at the right level. There were some aspects of the course where I learnt new concepts but I would like to really grasp the concepts of: Int, float and string explained class, definition and method explained clearly and simply. I would like tuple, list, dictionary and set explained in relation to the above. I would like top down and oop explained in relation to the above. I would really like to get the python docs explained to make it easier to navigate. I do not have the time to spend days working on solutions to the challenges and and I frequently skip them. No to say I learn nothing from them but I do not have the luxury of time to do them full justice. I would suggest replacing them with a robust set of multiple choice scenarios where the viewer can explore coding. The pros and cons of Python is there is so much it can do. However, trying to explain all of that is impossible in a short course. I would suggest Faisal not treat this course as the final version but as version 1.0 and try to create a 2.0 version (without Hammerbitcoin as a key component and replace it with a non bitcoin related project that can be built from scratch). I would try to focus on making a concise course that teaches the fundamentals that could then lead on to an intermediate course and then an advanced course. Thanks Faisal and LP for all the python training!

Explanations are very clear. The pace is a bit slow for someone who already knows programming in other languages. It is right for someone new to programming.
