Python for Data Structures, Algorithms, and Interviews! (Udemy.com)

Taking this course was my first step into this subject, but thanks to the coding challenges within the course, I now feel much more confident. These challenges not only test your understanding, but also give you the satisfaction of checking your solutions before comparing them with the author's code. This course has been an eye-opener, highlighting areas I need to explore as I continue to navigate Python. In summary, my time with this course has been delightful, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to master Python and dive into the world of data structures and algorithms.

The course should have focused more on the technical aspects of Data Structures and Algorithms e.g. what you can do with it, how can they be applied to real world problems, how to analyze Big-O, which algorithm/code would give certain type of Big-O so one can avoid, etc. Those barely scratch the surface. Instead, the course heavily focuses on different problems, but the technical aspect is very lacking. It's more like a coding exercise which scratches on the surface of Data Structures and Algorithms. As for the Interview sections, even though I had fun from it, it isn't useful or helpful.

So far so good. As a complete newbie, I learnt a lot. Just some general comments: - Very good first many topics, but once he reaches Trees, it gets confusing and harder to follow. - It'd be good to include examples of when and why we apply a certain algorithm to this kind of problem. For example, when will I practically implement a binary heap? How do I know that a problem can be solved with recursion etc.? - Also ever since after Trees, I felt that some of the code he just read off what he typed / what is off the screen rather than explaining why is this code this way, and WHY WE STRUCTURE IT LIKE THAT. I mean he does sometimes explain what this line does, but he doesn't tell you why we structure it this way. - Memoisation seems useful. Would be good to have a dedicated lecture on it. Still learnt a lot nevertheless so thank you.

The majority of the videos are good, but in some cases I feel that they are too brief. I also wish some of the code samples were commented a little better so that you can follow along and understand. This course also needs to be updated to Python3. It's not hard to update the code yourself as you go along, but it's an annoyance. Overall I would say the course is pretty good. I learned a good amount, but I did need to watch videos and read explanations from other sites to understand certain topics that I didn't feel were explained well enough in this course.

I have taken multiple courses from Jose, and this is another winner. I am fairly new to learning programming and data science activities, and Jose's classes have been the best by far in terms of content, explanation, materials (notebooks you can refer to later) and being able to relate. I work at a large health care insurer and have one developer working for me that has also taken several of Jose's classes on my recommendation, and we have implemented several machine learning, ETL, automation and analytics applications thanks to the content in his other Python and data science / visualization / machine learning courses. This course covered many of the computer science 'fundamentals' that I missed by not going through a proper university CS program, so this definitely filled a gap in my learning. Like all of Jose's other classes, I finished this class feeling like I actually learned a fair amount of material, and also have access to and understand the course materials for reference as well. Great job on another course, and especially for filling that fundamentals gap I was desperately searching for :)

I really loved this course overall. It went in depth into the most relevant data structures and algorithms in preparation for software engineering interviews. There is a LOT of content, so expect to spend at least a couple weeks getting through the course. One point of feedback: for some of the less obvious solutions to interview problems, Jose will explain what his code is doing without explaining in depth the strategy/ reasoning behind his overall approach. One example: the coin change problem. But overall he did a great job and I'd love to take another one of his courses!

Once again a wonderful and informative course by Jose Portilla Sir. I have enrolled and completed his another course named "Complete Python Bootcamp". I was inspired by his teaching style and that helped me a lot for the journey of this course. I'm thankful for all the work that he puts into for perfecting the order of each section and its contents. He provides all the needed resources as well as additional resource for each course. What makes this course different is that even if someone is new to this topic they could follow along so well. If you know PYTHON and want to learn data structure and algorithm then this is the course for you. SO I REALLY RECOMMEND ALL MY FRIENDS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THIS COURSE TO TRY IT OUT. Once again Thanking you sir for providing us with this course.

Overall, this is a very good course. The audio and video are clear and high quality. The course is generally 3 parts: 1) preparing for interviews, resumes, applications, etc., 2) technical concepts in programming and how to implement them, and 3) interviewing at different types of companies. The technical section alone is worth taking this course. However, depending on your current career placement, the other information may prove helpful as well as it is nice to have it all in one place to reference. I am mid-career and found that going through the pre-job application and interview sections were at least enlightening. The technical sections are well done providing both a python implementation but also stressing the generic solutions to the concepts. Overall the technical section was a great review. This course also provides an outstanding explanation of Big O notation and how it is used.

This course far exceeded my expectations. Jose does a great job explaining these complicated topics and is quick to respond if you every have any questions. The course also covers a great deal of topics which makes it an excellent value. His examples are very practical and cover many ways to solve the same problem. My favorite was the coin problem, where by using memoization, he shows you how you can solve the problem exponentially faster than just using simple recursion. The interview problems he presents are very challenging and typical of what a good programmer should know during an interview. I'd like to see a part 2 to this course, as in depth as it is, it leaves out some more advanced topics, such as AVL/RedBlack Trees, Dijkstra/Bellman-Ford Algorithms, Design Patterns, etc, that I think Jose would do a wonderful job explaining. Plus more sample interview questions would always be helpful.

Can't say enough about this instructor. I will be taking any courses that he comes out with in the future (or at least consider them, if they are in line with my career and learning objectives). Why take this course? It's easy to pick up the syntax of a programming language without a computer science background. It's hard to write efficient, clear code without knowledge of some of the fundamentals from the computer science curriculum. Data Structures and Algorithms is a must for anyone interested in getting better at writing and reading code. Jose goes through the nitty gritty of what interviewers are looking to see when they ask coding questions. He helps you understand what makes certain algorithmic methods preferable to others. That alone is a course I would take. As a bonus (although not an add-on, but rather, a large part of the course), he walks you through the entire process of finding a job in the industry. Resume writing, job finding, interviewing, salary negotiation. This class has it all. 5-stars, Jose. You are an invaluable addition to the Udemy community.
