Course Description

ENROLL IN MY LATEST COURSE ON HOW TO LEARN ALL ABOUT BASIC SATELLITE REMOTE SENSING.

Are you currently enrolled in either of my Core or Intermediate Spatial Data Analysis Courses?

Or perhaps you have prior experience in GIS or tools like R and QGIS?

You don't want to spend 100s and 1000s of dollars on buying commercial software for imagery analysis?

The next step for you is to gain profIciency in satellite remote sensing data analysis.

MY COURSE IS A HANDS ON TRAINING WITH REAL REMOTE SENSING DATA WITH OPEN SOURCE TOOLS!

My course provides a foundation to carry out PRACTICAL, real-life remote sensing analysis tasks in popular and FREE software frameworks with REAL spatial data. By taking this course, you are taking an important step forward in your GIS journey to become an expert in geospatial analysis.

Why Should You Take My Course?

I am an Oxford University MPhil (Geography and Environment) graduate. I also completed a PhD at Cambridge University (Tropical Ecology and Conservation).

I have several years of experience in analyzing real life spatial remote sensing data from different sources and producing publications for international peer reviewed journals.

In this course, actual satellite remote sensing data such as Landsat from USGS and radar data from JAXA  will be used to give a practical hands-on experience of working with remote sensing and understanding what kind of questions remote  sensing can help us answer.

This course will ensure you learn & put remote sensing data analysis into practice today and increase your proficiency in geospatial analysis.

Remote sensing software tools are very expensive and their cost can run into thousands of dollars. Instead of shelling out so much money or procuring pirated copies (which puts you at a risk of prosecution), you will learn to carry out some of the most important and common remote sensing analysis tasks using a number of popular, open source GIS tools such as R, QGIS, GRASS and ESA-SNAP.  All of which are in great demand in the geospatial sector and improving your skills in these is a plus for you.

This is an introductory course, i.e. we will focus on learning the most important and widely encountered remote sensing data processing and analyzing tasks in R, QGIS, GRASS and ESA-SNAP

You will also learn about the different sources of remote sensing data there are and how to obtain these FREE OF CHARGE and process them using FREE SOFTWARE.

In addition to all the above, you’ll have MY CONTINUOUS SUPPORT to make sure you get the most value out of your investment!

I completed a PhD (University of Cambridge, UK) in 2017 where I focussed on implementing data science techniques for quantifying the impact of forest loss on tropical ecosystems. I hold an MPhil (School of Geography and Environment) and an MSc (Department of Engineering) from Oxford University. I have more than 10 year's experience in conducting academic research (published in high level peer-reviewed international scientific journals such as PLOS One) and advising both non-governmental and industry stakeholders in data science, deep learning and earth observation (EO) related topics.

I have a strong track record in implementing machine learning, data visualization, spatial data analysis, deep learning and natural language processing tasks using both R and Python. In addition to being educated at the best universities in the world, I have honed my statistical and data analysis skills through many MOOCs, including The Analytics Edge (R based statistics and machine learning course offered by EdX), Statistical Learning (R-based Machine Learning course offered by Stanford online) and the IBM Data Science Professional certificate Track. I specialise in a variety of topics ranging from deep learning (Tensorflow, Keras) to machine learning to spatial data analysis (including EO data processing), data visualizations, natural language processing, financial analysis among others. I have acted as a peer reviewer on highly

it is good for very briefly showing a variety of tools that can be used to process and visualize remote sensing data. it is not easy to follow along because she skips over key steps such as the importing files into the tools (for GRass gis there is a projection step). Also I could not get the SCP plugin tool to import data from the web, this kind of obstacle is to be expected with open source tools. But it was frustrating to have to spend hours trying to debug, unsuccesfully.

It is a hands-on course for me. The course will add to the quality of my work to a great extent as it contains useful information relating to my project.. The instructor has brilliantly explained various aspects of the concepts in her lectures.

The course is a source of important contribution to my work. I find it most useful and will be positively using the concepts in my work. The instructor is very knowledgeable about the concepts of the course and her delivery is engaging.

A very interesting and informative course. I only recently started working with satellite data, and wanted to go into more detail on image processing and more sophisticated analyses. The instructor is very knowledgeable with a great understanding of the various free tools and data sources for doing this type of work - the demonstration of ESA SNAP is great and I would be interested in seeing more of this software in the future. I will probably need to work through the course again once I have some images and projects of my own. There are some very helpful workflow diagrams that provide a good structure to working with satellite data, particularly for a fairly new entrant to this topic. The possibilities are endless, but the course has helped a lot in providing a better understanding of how to get started and the important steps to take. The machine learning is very interesting - never tried this method on any data, so it is helpful introduction in how it works. Very good course!

The delivery of the lecture is a little stilted. Previous courses seem to have a more practiced feel. It is good to see the pitfalls of some of the methods (like the download of LandSat directly into QGIS) but I do not think that it was worth the time. Maybe just a statement at the end of lecture 11 or 12 stating the problems that may occur. There seems to be a disconnect between data sets used in demonstrations within lectures and data sets that are available in the drop box.

I really enjoyed that this course covers a lot of ground. I learned a lot. Also the instructor is very responsive to questions, and almost always her answers are helpfull. What I missed though was a more thorough explanation of why we use certain techniques or software instead of others. Also, I find it a pity there are no handouts available. If I remember I learned something here. I have to rewatch the video instead of skimming through the pages of the handouts. The theory parts could have been larger. I enjoyed those. The explanations of how to do things were (for me) to much like: "Then you click here, and then you click here, and then here. And voila. There's your picture."

Short lectures & practicals which are good to ensure the attention of the audience is still there. The lecturer is well informed about her subject. Great course for anyone who wants to learn Remote Sensing using Open Source software.

Excellent course, for a very specific domain. There isn't any other course that is like this one. Minerva does an excellent job for us geospatials via the udemy platform, for example i see now that GRASS is an amazing open source tool with many functionalities.
