Course Description
Featured Review:
"For anyone who is a beginner, I like the fact that you are using people who have grown from their own experiences! They are down to earth and explain the differences of the products they use, like you are in the room with them." - Lawrence Brenton
Do you ever struggle with wind, rain, heat or the wrong time of day at your photo session and think 'it would be so great if I had my own studio'?
Do you ever think 'I wish my client's location wasn't so cluttered or dark or ugly' and 'it would be so great to have my own studio'?
Do you want work in a safe environment where you are in control, and be the master of your light?
If you answered 'YES!' to at least one of those questions - then it's time for you to think about finding and setting up your own photography studio space!
We went through all those issues from battling rain when living in England to harsh Californian summer heat, so we understand you. If you want to bring your photography to the next level but are daunted by all the factors involved in setting up a studio with the right equipment, then with us you are in good hands.
This course will save you a ton of research time and money by drawing from our own experience, cutting straight to the necessities with no fluff, so you don't have to make the same mistakes. In this course we will cover:
Finding the right studio location
Size and shape of the room
Pros and cons for your own needs
Lighting equipment from flashes to studio strobes
Modifiers - softboxes, beauty dishes and more
Backgrounds - stands, paper/vinyl/patterned
Props and accessories
Think about how fun it would be not only to work in your own environment, but also to meet your client for the pre-consultation or sales presentation in your own photography studio rather than in a crowded coffee shop.
You will be able to produce a greater variety of images in a smaller time frame - which means more customers and more profit. Or if you are shooting for a hobby, you will be able to create your vision without being at the mercy of the weather or location.
For your great new photography studio you don't even need a huge space or super high ceilings. We will go through all our studio's limitations and how we found solutions so you can achieve the same results.
After this course you will know what you need to get going with setting up your own studio space whether it's in a leased room, spare bedroom or basement in your home.
***Plus: A complete 1.5 Hour Lighting Tutorial to show you all our different modifiers!***
Have fun and Happy Shooting!

I absolutely love the course. It gave me all the information I was hoping to find and Sandy is a very lovely instructor, pleasing to the eye and the ear. This course was very helpful. Matt and Sandy are a great team, I wish to visit their studio and meet them some day. A lot of things they say are very helpful since a lot of people like me will start photography in small budgets. Big thanks to them for putting this material out there to help people like me and thanks Udemy for making it so convenient to watch and learn. Thanks

The course had some very nice points. It has probably saved me some money getting started. Parts of the course was obviously for professional (or very serious) photographers, because it dealt with renting a space for a studio, and I'm a hobby photographer with portable equipment. I could relate, but it didn't help me much. I did like the lighting tutorial, though. I think, it's great for beginners. To make the lighting tutorial even better, it would've been great to show the different pictures next to each other on the screen, so the change would really show, instead of just showing one and requiring the viewer to remember the last photo. Parts of the video production could be improved as well. At times the audio is a bit off, either not clear at the beginning of the clip, falling out in the middle or just getting a lot of noise when Matt assembles the soft box. It's not essential to the video, but it would improve the experience. In all, the course is well worth the price.

I found the presentation was very disappointing. The female instructor kept getting 45 degrees and 90 degrees mixed up when it came to softbox location in relationship to the subject. There also was times when she had to look at her husband to make sure she was using the right word. I watched a free utube video of Joe Edelman recently that lasted about 15 mins about how to set up a home studio in you basement and I got more valueable information from this 15 min video than I got from this 3+ hr video.

The course provides plenty of information and practical advice for a beginner like me. I think the topics are well organized hence easy to follow and grasp. I like the style of Ms. Sandy. It is like having a live instructor talking to me directly. Thank you and more power to your team!

It's an interesting introduction to the ins and outs of a photography studio. Thinking of things like location, accessibility and the local area are things you might not normally consider - I only really thought about the room size. The instructor's experience is shared in an easy to understand manner, and this will be useful to me for sure. The final section on lighting in the studio is clearly explained and demonstrated in a way that I think anyone can replicate in their own studio.

As a learning photographer I was very appreciative of the life experience of this couple. In my opinion this is a great course for some one staring their journey to become a full time photographer. It gave me great insight into the things to consider a I engage into this journey. Thank you for your time and for sharing your experiences in such a fun way. I'm hoping to one day be available to do the same.

Very practical and immersive - the instructors get immediately into the details of what equipment you need for the studio. Useful screen shots from Amazon on background stands - gives a good overview of things to consider. The lighting tutorial has a wealth of tips and techniques to get started when using studio lights.

This was a blind buy and I was engaged into portrait studio lighting. I also have to admit I bought it for a reduced price on a black Friday sale. The idea of a studio is what tickles a lot of aspiring photographers. In this course you will get a lot and truly a LOT of information, what might be valuable and what not. There are some aspects which can not be considered up front and the very nice a supportive hosts render some real life scenarios we would not necessarily think of. This truly is very interesting. There will be a lot of interesting topics, what you can utilize, what kind of equipment you should and should not buy. Did you think about accessibility and features of your studio space? You will get your answers here. You can save a lot of money with their valuable information. As for the instructors I do adore Sandy and Matt! Sandy most certainly has the know how and would really like to transfer as much knowledge as possible however the initially cute German accent gets in the way pretty fast. A lot of text is very long winded and it quickly becomes boring. The lessons could really be streamlined for sure. Matt is very supportive and leaves all the spotlight for Sandy. This would not be a bad idea on the 1st thought, since Sandy makes really great photos and has a very positive attitude. But Matt is a native speaker and sums the lessons up much faster and in a far more stream lined fashion than Sandy. I know their other work and they really put a lot of effort into it. However the lessons are long 8+ minutes and they get long winded and overblown with text and clutter fast. There is a lot of chit chat and repeating phrases like: if this then this, if you don't have this then this, however, actually, basically, you could, however in each and every video which results in an artificial length. They cover a lot of stuff, which is great, the hosts are both very adorable. I do adore their work but I think they could really streamline the text. If you do not know which lights to buy, you will get a detailed dough very scattered explanation. The multi light setup is very short compared to the length of the course. You will learn a lot about backgrounds and materials. There are also 2 bonus features on how to easily fix up high and low key backgrounds in Photoshop. I learned some interesting things especially about light angles (i was always firing spot on) but the original price is a little too much to chew for the delivered content. Keep up the great work and I hope there will be more opportunities to learn from those adorable hosts.

So glad I could finally find a course on setting up a studio as there's not a lot of info around that explains everything A-Z. Sandy explains all the equipment from background stands to vinyl and paper options, and then the different soft box types like beauty dishes and other types of modifier. Capping it off is a lighting tutorial which is a great reference for me (I haven't done much with studio lights before) where Sandy builds it up bit by bit from 1 light all the way to 4 lights and high key
