SQL and PostgreSQL for Beginners: Become a SQL Expert (Udemy.com)

I started this course two years ago (I did it slowly in my own time at first haha). I have finished it now and I can honestly say it has changed my career path totally. I was a project supervisor when I started this course, while I was doing the course I started to get noticed by my manager as I said I was learning to write SQL code (after my manager needed someone on the team to write SQL reports for holiday relief). I was given reports to write and a year later I have been internally head hunted as a DBA/junior developer. Udemy has given me the tools to change my career prospects. I will say that having a job where I can use SQL to do actual real-life work really helped progress me. I really enjoy the challenges in this course (do really try to solve them on your own first). I must try stuff and understand them thoroughly before I learn. Keep thinking "what would I use this for as a... [DBM, developer, data analyst etc]" and use AI alongside the course (to ask questions, explain to you why you went wrong, why your version did not work etc) to keep you on track for your future career. It's not always clear how the fake database and functions would relate to real life reporting. I had an issue with rows vs columns and I used AI to support the learning and clear this up, then I could go back to functions and re-watch the videos. I also like how Jon writes out everything right at the beginning - this is invaluable for me (I am visual, methodical learner). Also, keep going and keep learning... it will all start to click. Re-do the challenges if you need to. I loved this course and I have enrolled on Jons follow on course he recommends. Thanks again!

This course exceeded my expectations. The concepts were explained in a simple and easy-to-understand manner with practical examples and hands-on exercises. The instructor's teaching style made even complex topics easy to follow. I gained valuable practical skills and feel much more confident applying what I learned. The step-by-step approach helps build confidence, especially for learners with no prior database experience.

Very good intro for SQL beginners. I believe only a little part of the course touched on Postgres-specific stuff which wasn't explicitely mentioned. I had hoped that Postgres was introduced a bit better, such as what are the main improvements over SQL (Security, rich data-types, functions)... But this was still worth it.

The course is very carefully prepared. The procedures are explained in detail, including examples. The course covers the basics (for someone who knows nothing about this topic - SQL, PostgreSQL, pgAdmin) up to more complex queries. The QA section works well, and when I got stuck, I found the answer there (problem with database cloning). The video and audio quality are perfect. Thank you!

Great course starting with the most basic information. The volume is good on all videos and doesn't vary by increasing or decreasing from video to video. The instructor is easy to understand takes things slowly enough to follow along. There are multiple challenges along the way to put your new skills to the test. If you want to learn SQL, this is the course for you!

The course was easy to follow and was taught very well. The instructor’s voice was very clear and easy to understand. I enjoyed the fact that Jon would teach us how to use a specific statement or method and follow up by giving us a challenge on what we learned. I was kind of hoping he would have taught us on indexing our databases/tables and crafting conditional expressions using CASE, COALESCE, etc., as well as using other statements such as NOW(), for example. All in all, this was a great course and well worth the money!
