I was born in the UK, Educated in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. I am married with 1 daughter, also married and I now have 2 grandchildren.
I studied at Chesterfield College of Technology up to National Certificate level in electrical engineering as well as serving a full 5-year apprenticeship as an Instrument Mechanic. This was followed by an extensive UK career where I was involved in maintenance and commissioning as a Commissioning Engineer travelling to different companies all over the UK. This involved exposure to many different production facilities.
In 1981, I was offered a position as Instrument Foreman with Sasol, Secunda, and this is when I emigrated with my family to South Africa. I was responsible for all instrumentation issues on 5 Sasol units. Sasol is a major PetroChem facility within South Africa
After Sasol, in 1991, I moved to Johannesburg where I was employed at Babcock Engineering and Davy International as Senior Instrument Engineer, overseeing projects in Botswana and in the steel industry.
I obtained my first full-time training position at Fisher Rosemount as Training Manager. presenting courses on the DeltaV and RS3 DCS systems. I was also involved in many commissioning projects involving DeltaV and RS3 DCS systems.

Very calm and structured delivery of the course throughout. Really easy to follow and informative. I took notes which allowed me to cement my learning which I know will be invaluable in the future given the detail of the sections. Looking forward to my next course with Jeff already.

The topics covered are well selected to represent advanced ladder logic programming for ControlLogix. The trainer presents with confidence which shows good experience with ControlLogix. The depth of the coverage for each topic was a little less than I had expected, but was obviously limited by the overall time of the course. There may be an opportunity to have more in-depth coverage of some of the topics in second level courses. I was a little surprised with Section 11: Rotary Optical Encoders since it seems related more to hardware than to PLC programming.

Good introduction to programing and understanding ladder logic using Rockwell technology. This is a good foundation for reading and understanding existing projects., and maybe for creating new projects, assuming the user has time to learn an apply as the new project is being developed.

Aprendí bastantes cosas en el curso, y de manera simple, creo que debería hacer uno con más ejercicios ya que se ve que tiene mucha experiencia, le agradezco el conocimiento pues no se paga con nada. Enhorabuena. Thanks Jeff for all the insights and the valuable knowledge, hope you make more learning curses!!

Great intro to more advanced programming. Much of this is used for communications between equipment, such as different vender machines. If you can master the Produce/Consume and the MSG, then you should have no issues with line intergration.

This is my 3rd course with Jeff Sharman and all three have been excellent. These courses present training in how to use the known as ControlLogix. It does not teach you how to be a control engineer. For the scope of this course, this, and all the others I have taken have been most wonderful and I highly recommend any training offered by Jeff Sharman to you. Jeff is an excellent presenter. He speaks clearly and slowly in a manner that it is easy to understand him. The course material is presented in a logical 1st then 2nd then 3rd manner. He is technically expert on the subject matter. Further, he quickly returns answers to my questions. I plan to use Jeff as a technical consultant as time passes outside of this course, and outside Udemy. I thank Udemy for providing such an excellent instructor and his many courses of instruction. I am a control engineer over 20+ years. I primary work in large chemical plants on DCSs. There are always PLCs inter-dispersed amongst the equipment so one must be conversent on them. I have found (now = 2020Dec30) that prospective employers are increasingly interested in my ControlLogix skills. Courses like those offered by Jeff Sharman will be key to my successful future.

Excellent course, I have gotten the knowledge I was expecting to acquire. This course improved a lot my knowledge in Contrologix programming. The instructor is very knowledgeable and with many years of experience in the automation field.

I have been working my way through each course Mr. Shaman has created and will buy any others he creates. I do control maintenance in water and waste water plants and his instruction is entirely relevant to what I do every day. I will take his instruction any day over the overpriced class room training from Rockwell. Bravo! and looking forward to more.

Now that I am using this stuff on a daily basis at work, the course makes much more sense, in that I now know WHY I am doing what I am doing, and it sticks in the brain a little better. Thanks so much, Jeff! Chris Hart

I think he should always provide a detailed explanation of the exercises. He says that someone asked him not to provide answers to the exercises. I think that is ridiculous. Why give exercises if there is no solution provided. I am wondering how many people actually contact the instructor for the answers. My experience is that if something requires extra effort, people simply wont do it. If he claims that people don't want the solutions because they want to try is first and if they are stumped, then they ask for the solution, I say that they probably will not complete the task. I always want to see the solutions to exercises right away so that I can give it a try and not have to wait to see the solution. Moreover, I think you lose customers if you make them have to wait... for anything.
