I've been working as a licensed substance abuse counselor for the last five years. I have an integrated knowledge of counseling and recovery techniques from professional and personal experience. I studied mental health counseling at the University of Dayton and am currently working on my PhD in psychology. I have noticed that there is a shortage of substance abuse counselors in the field who have working knowledge of best practice counseling techniques. I've working in inpatient and outpatient settings. I've worked in dual diagnosis facilities as well as strictly substance abuse recovery rehabs and also in forensic settings.

The instructor references a manual and referring to the manual for additional information on defense mechanisms in addictive thinking...it would be helpful to have access to that information or at least the few pages she is referencing. I don't see any "resources" listed under those sections.

The course was so fruitful and productive, it helped me to understand and to have another perspective towards drug addicts as well as to be patient and empathic when dealing with them. The course was really match for me and the scope of my profession.

It gave good basic information, but it did not help me learn how to actually deal with a person who is an addict.

Alcohol and substance abuse has been apart of my family history for years. One uncle feel asleep intoxicated while smoking and died in a house fire. I have friends who struggle daily, in fact, they are functional alcoholics. One of my brothers has been sober for five years now. I have a lot of patience, empathy, and compassion for those who have addictions.

I am enjoying this course and find the information provided very helpful. The course is breaking down the different aspects of what a career in Addictions Counselling may look like very well. The instructor seems very calm and approachable as well which is really nice.

I am a recovering addict with over 16 years of sobriety. This course was excellent thank you. I have felt for the last few years is that my calling lies with helping addicts. I do sponsor lots of people in AA and NA, but I want to ultimately make a career out of counselling so this was a great foundation

This really helped me understand the science behind addiction. In recovery you deal with all kinds of obstacles and this course helped me realize where some of my struggles were in my early days of recovery. Very well presented. Thank you.
