Course Description

"(How) Can I use Technical Analysis and Technical Indicators for Trading and Investing?" - This is one of the most frequently asked questions in trading and investing.

This course clearly goes beyond rules, theories, vague forecasts, and nice-looking charts. (These are useful but traders need more than that.) This is the first 100% data-driven course on Technical Analysis. We´ll use rigorous Backtesting / Forward Testing to identify and optimize proper Trading Strategies that are based on Technical Analysis / Indicators.

This course will allow you to test and challenge your trading ideas and hypothesis. It provides Python Coding Frameworks and Templates that will enable you to code and test thousands of trading strategies within minutes. Identify the profitable strategies and scrap the unprofitable ones!

The course covers the following Technical Analysis Tools and Indicators:

  • Interactive Line Charts and Candlestick Charts

  • Interactive Volume Charts

  • Trend, Support and Resistance Lines

  • Simple Moving Average (SMA)

  • Exponential Moving Average (EMA)

  • Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD)

  • Relative Strength Index (RSI)

  • Stochastic Oscillator

  • Bollinger Bands

  • Pivot Point (Price Action)

  • Fibonacci Retracement (Price Action)

  • combined/mixed Strategies and more.

This is not only a course on Technical Analysis and Trading. It´s an in-depth coding course on Python and its Data Science Libraries Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Plotly, and more. You will learn how to use and master these Libraries for (Financial) Data Analysis, Technical Analysis, and Trading.

Please note: This is not a course for complete Python Beginners (check out my other courses!)

I'm being optimistic. Yet, this is only the introductory review of the course content. He did a good job describing the mechanics of the udemy system for transcripts and speeding and slowing the speech rate. He emphasized the importance of the building of a knowledge base starting with basics to advanced.

Good course to learn the basics of trading and vectorised backtesting. All done using pandas directly. The course is for beginners but jumps directly into futures with short and long positions on instruments. I miss more basic “spot trading”, in which you just buy and sell (1 and 0) instead of taking “positions” (long = 1, neutral = 0, short = -1). I am also missing some mention of very good trading libraries out there, with python wrappers like TA-Lib. Some of these libs have been around for long, are widely used and can help a lot in getting deeper into algorithmic trading.

theoretical part are good but but lacking realistic applications

By Barbara Gladfelter on 1/30/2023

Another excellent course by Alex. This course introduces the most common indicators in use. Overall a good course. There is some overlap with Alex's algorithmic trading course. I think what might provide added value to this course is to include the python Technical Analysis library. However, Alex teaches not only how to create the indicators but how to create a strategy and evaluate it, and this can be applied to any indicator you might find in the library. The most interesting part of the course is seeing, by working through the strategies, the likelihood of profiting with the strategy applied to that instrument. This course was also my first introduction to cufflinks QuantFig charts which are really amazing.

This is another great course delivered by Alex about Algorithmic Trading with Python. He shows how to use the most common indicators in order to build profitable strategies. It's well structured, the code is simple and clean. I have learned a lot of tools to get to build my own strategies and one day become a profitable algo trader.

The only reason I never give him 5 star marks, is because there is quite a bit of repetition on the courses, which it's always a good thing to go through again at a faster speed anyway. I would love to see a course from him regarding making online bots for buying things (so scalpers don't win all the time), with Selenium, Beautiful Soup, etc. Now, I am going on to the other 2 courses from him I have left to do in the topic of crypto. Great teacher, keep up the good work!

By Ronald van Ravensberg on 5/3/2022

The delivery of the teacher s very monotone which makes it hard to keep focussed especially during the theorie heavy parts of the course. The lessons are setup as seperate parts so you can skip the parts you already know or are not interrested in but it also means there is a lot of repetition. The course was good and I learned what I wanted to learn.

By Marius Liviu Balan on 3/31/2022

The course transposes the computation and visual representation from TradingView to Python, Pandas and Matplotlib. The approach is based a lot on the visual representation solution that you cannot always use on an algorithmic trading. For me a better approach would be a full Pandas solution and using Matplotlib only to validate the result. Nice to have: -backtesting using a Python framework; now the course contains only Pandas calculations; an approach like MT4 in Python would be awesome -the code shows FOREX in action; applying to stocks and getting data with a provider like yfinance would be more than welcome

Brilliant course. Teaches a lot. Effectively. Given the breadth and depth of the topic, the course gives and leaves just enough to explore things on their own. Maybe, as a demonstration, Alexander H could add some real-life examples, of implementing the strategy, rather than only delving into historical data.

By Giovanni Tundo on 5/4/2021

The material was clear and the trainer did an excellent job in presenting the topics effectively. Only in the OOP part it got slightly confusing for me because there was a bit of back and forth but it might as well be because i am not too familiar yet with those topics. But overall a very well done course!
