Course Description

Do you already know the basics of SQL, but sometimes get frustrated when you encounter situations where the basics just aren't enough?

Are you a junior analyst who wants to level up to advanced SQL so you can take the next step in your career?

Or maybe you're a data scientist who knows enough SQL to get by, but want to take your skills further so you can spend less time wrangling data and more time building models.

If any of these sound like your situation, then you're in the right place. This course on advanced SQL for data analysis  has everything that isn't covered in introductory SQL courses.

The curriculum goes DEEP, spanning all the advanced techniques you'll ever need to wrangle and analyze data in the fastest and most efficient way possible.

And these concepts aren't presented in isolation; everything is taught in the context of real-world analytics scenarios, meaning you'll be ready to apply these techniques on the job from day one.

Here's a look at just some of the things you'll get out of this course:

  • Make the leap to Senior Analyst by mastering advanced data wrangling techniques with SQL

  • Become the resident SQL expert on your team

  • Perform nuanced analysis of large datasets with Window Functions

  • Use subqueries, CTEs and temporary tables to handle complex, multi-stage queries and data transformations

  • Write efficient, optimized SQL

  • Leverage indexes to speed up your SQL queries

  • Supercharge your SQL knowledge with procedural programming techniques like variables and IF statements

  • Program database objects like user defined functions and stored procedures that will make life easier for you AND your teammates

  • Master useful tips and tricks not found in most database courses, like Dynamic SQL

  • Harness the power of AI tools to accelerate your SQL development with effective prompt engineering techniques

  • Gain an intuition for what technique to apply and when

  • Train your brain with tons of hands-on exercises that reflect real-world business scenarios

What makes this course different

There are three things that really set this course apart.

First is its scope. We'll dig deep into the advanced toolbox that SQL has to offer, uncovering techniques to solve problems that leave even senior analysts scratching their heads.

Second is a relentless focus on that practical, real-world applications. Techniques are taught not as abstract concepts, but rather as solutions to common data wrangling and analytics problems. And whenever possible, these techniques are presented, not in isolation, but in combination with other things that have already been covered. This "spiral" approach reinforces concepts you've learned so they stay with you long after taking the course.

Finally, and most importantly, the course provides a treasure trove of coding exercises that give you ample opportunity for hands-on practice. And these exercises are distributed throughout the course - not clustered together after hours of videos. This means you'll have an opportunity to practice every concept you learn, right after you learn it.

So if you want to go from SQL apprentice to SQL master, enroll today. I look forward to seeing you in the course.

Travis Cuzick

Hi, I’m Travis. I’ve spent well over a decade architecting and coding data solutions - and training others to do the same - for Fortune 100 companies and small businesses alike. In that time, I’ve mastered programming languages such as SQL, VBA, Python, Javascript, and more...but it wasn’t always easy.

As a self-taught developer, I understand how hard it can be to learn highly technical subjects on your own. And I am passionate about making this process as efficient, intuitive, and fun (yes, fun!) for my students as possible.

I’m excited to apply what I’ve learned about programming (AND learning!) over the course of my career, to help you reach the next step of yours.

This course, IMO, is intermediate to advanced. If you're just learning SQL, this course might be too much for you. Also, this course is not a code-along. The instructor teaches you a concept, then has prepared exercises for the student to complete on their own. The exercises are where the learning is reinforced, and are far more beneficial than a code along. Overall, this is a great course. The instructor gets straight to the point, there's no fluff in this course, just learning. I give five stars.

Hi Travis, I really got some valuable tricks and methods i can use in my workplace. I really loved the way you showed how correlated subqueries can be so impactful along with use of exist statement. I just have one suggestion, you can improve the SQL optimization section by including how the query planning works & what are the different joins like hash join, lookup join etc to tune the query. I would love that if you can include the extensive section on this. Also, if you could include materalized views.

Definitely one of the best courses I have taken on Udemy and will be a good course to reference back to in the future. There were only a couple exercises where I wish a little more explaination could have gone into why it was solved in the way presented. The last lesson in Dynamic SQL for example, what was shown in the videos was way simpler that what was asked for in the exercises. Being new to Dynamic SQL, it was a large leap for me to actually understand what to do enough to solve the exercises. That being said, those types of exercises were very rare exceptions in the class. This class was great for someone with at least an intermidiate SQL skill level. I took this class to get better at CTEs, Subqueries, Stored Procedures and Temp tables, but the optimizing and programming SQL was still very interesting to me, even if I won't do much of it in my current role as a data analyst. Bottom line, I wouldn't hesistate to take another class from this instructor.

I recently completed an online course on T-SQL, and I must say it was an outstanding experience. The instructor was exceptional, demonstrating deep expertise and an ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner. The course materials were top-notch, providing comprehensive coverage of T-SQL topics with well-structured content and practical examples. The exercises greatly enhanced my learning experience, allowing me to apply what I learned in practical contexts. Overall, this course exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended!

If you are looking for an excellent Udemy course that shores up your SQL coding skills and exceeds expectations just like Jose Portilla's Complete SQL Bootcamp: Go from Zero to Hero course, then Travis Cuzick's Advanced SQL Server Masterclass for Data Analysis is the course to purchase and enroll in. Cuzick's video lectures explains SQL window functions, subqueries, common table expressions (CTEs), temp tables, query optimization, and SQL programming in a very easy-to-follow, stepwise, and logical style. Even better, the instructor provides very clear and detailed exercise instructions, knowing well that his students are unfamiliar with the AdventureWorks data set used in this course. Best of all, what I love most about this course is that I have rapidly shored up my SQL coding skills and confidence, especially with regards to my current work projects, and in an open-source and current downloadable version of SQL Server Management Studio. Ben Brooks, the Udemy Advanced SQL Bootcamp instructor, should enroll in this course and take serious notes on how to prepare a high-quality and caliber advanced SQL course. The only aspect that I would like Travis Cuzick to improve is add a video lecture and exercise on triggers in SQL Server. Overall, thank you very much to Mr. Cuzick for putting together the best advanced SQL course on Udemy!

Excellent teaching skills. The material covered was very in-depth. I can say my knowledge is more sound after the experience gotten from the exercises and lessons contained here. NOTE: Just a quick tip for the author and viewers. When editing code in SSMS you can used the SHIFT+ALT+UP ARROW (or DOWN ARROW) to place your cursor to alter code in among several lines simultaneously. Nice trick that will save you some time.

The course is relatively extensive, even though it doesn't have a very high total duration of hours watched, because it manages to handle the topics swiftly without missing any important informations. Even though some explanations are hard to understand, the examples are making it much easier to comprehend the concepts. I finished that course in 5 days, meaning that I was learning at a very fast rate. The only thing that maybe could improve this course is adding a few more exercises that are a little bit harder, because most of them are a bit too simple, but that's just my opinion. I would indeed highly recommend this course to anyone who has a solid foundation of the basics of SQL.

This course is very useful when you reach a good level of understanding and practice doing SQL. One of the best things is it gives you tools to write sql queries during the process with real data. This course will take you to another level of understanding. My only complaint is in some lectures the written query is long and the teacher doesn't have it available to copy paste or at least have a long look at it. Loving the tips and tricks on subqueries, CTE's and Create Table.

This course is so great. I have completed only 95% as of now and I gave first interview for my first switch after working 6 years as a SSIS & SQL developer and I nailed it. I'm writing this review after getting my offer that too in The UK. Thank you so much Travis for such a nice and informative course and explaining it in a very basic manner. Please keep on adding more new advanced topic to this course. Big thumbs up. Keep up the good work. Cheers!!

Exercises ramp up way too much in difficulty towards the last 3rd of the course, that you're better off just skipping them since there's no point getting hung up on questions you won't be prepared to know how to answer. You'll learn a lot from stuff at the beginning but then you won't learn anything after that.
