This was a great course for me. I've got to grips with alot of the technical side of my camera but I want to understand the art of taking great photos. I am interested in art but never study it and want to improve my photography. When seeing a clip of this course and others of Adam's it made perfect sense to me understand more of an artist perspective/approach to improve the art of photography. Looking at art and photography with helpful information and tips was a great combination for me . Look forward to seeing more.

First of all, I'm really enjoying all these Udemy courses by how it's made because I'm studying photography from printed material and it has different impact for my learning, though it's not too bad as well. Therefore, In this case, tutor and student interaction through video makes better impact to get in actions and helps to get rid of all hesitation, which ones comeing back time to time when something does not goes in a such good way as it should. In, exactly, this course there are lots of simple but powerful tips. That's why I'm really happy that I found this Adam courses because it absolutely helps go back to basic to avoid the same mistakes in photographs again and again as well as motivates, what is so important for me. It helps to keep me going on this wonderful but kind of hard photography way. So, in few words: simple but powerful! Thank you!

As an artist I got engaged with photography as a means to improve my understand of visual composition. This course speaks to me in a way others don't and breaks down a subject that is often made inaccessible by other tutors because they tend too focus too much on the technicalities of the equipment. I do think the course could be made a little more visually engaging with more example photographs perhaps. but this is a minor comment, overall Well done Adam, you've persuaded me to buy episodes 2,3 & 4.

Just started in photography and wanted to look beyond the technicality of the subject. I purchased 3 series but was unsure of the order (1. Art of Seeing 2. Figure to ground 3. Finding light) and there is another one about perspective.. perhaps number four on the list. I like the fact that Adam makes reference to successful paintings to teach a point he wants to make. What is my goal when taking photos? ... start simple with a goal in mind he says - simplify the subject. He give examples of famous artists like Caravaggio and DaVinci - awesome! But wait, there is audio feedback to students questions that are full of helpful information that really emphasizes what he is teaching. The assignments are the meat of the episodes - where the rubber meets the road. I just wanted to take photos of my sculptures but this series makes me want to really enjoy photography so much more!

I enjoyed the course. Wish it was longer. I was familiar with most of the presented ideas and tips, but this lecture helped me to connect it in a more coherent way. It covers fundamental issues in building visual structure in photography, with clear, easy to follow instructions and references to the classical art of painting. I really love and respect Adam’s artwork and education projects like this one. I would also encourage everyone to read his insightful articles on photography (e.g. Great composition series). He is a great teacher. I am looking forward to start the next course.

The analogy to drawing was very insightful. A very different way to look at light. I have been photographing for a few years and still had problems with many of the fundamental concepts. I have seen examples before, such as photographing an egg from different angles without a clear explanation (I probably did not understand) of the goal of the exercise and what to look for. Many of the books I have read have not helped me to become a better photographer. The technical aspects are easy. The "art" is very difficult. The first step is to be able to see. My wife is an artist. She looks my photos and says, this is good, that is lousy. However, she could never explain why.

For the most part, I think these videos are good, but Adam doesn't teach composition. While he talks about it over and over, not once does he mention real design techniques when it comes to creating masterful art. Additionally, I think his first two B&H videos, which are free, are far better than these videos. Adam looks uncomfortable, and he appears somewhat clumsy.

I have been doing photography for some 63 years, 40 as a paid professional, 5 as an apprentice, 18 in retirement but still photographing as I will till the day I die. Photography is my way of life, plus I paint and draw. Your methods of viewing or assessing the images, making them small on the computer screen to decide on the tonal ranges used to amplify the image composition is new to me and though I have protected my view to blocking out the bright lights to help me assess the image prior to taking it, I hadn't appreciated how that shows the areas of the image that is the composition and those that need to be toned down as they aren't contributing to the end photograph. That they add unnecessary complexity as a distraction to the image, one is trying to make.

The best $20.00 I've ever spent on photography education. No gear talk, no post processing wizardry, simply an education in seeing effectively that it will be difficult to find anywhere else. It's worth watching each lesson multiple times to let the concepts sink in. I took off half a star because this is not exactly a slickly produced video, but don't let that stop you. In this case the content is much more valuable than the form. Highly recommended.
