A good start and I would say a must is a Moz Beginner's Guide to SEO which will give you basics. From that point, everything depends on your curiosity, hard work, and effort.

I tell all newbies the same thing: read the beginners guide to SEO by Moz. It’s a great place to start, gives you enough info about the core aspects without getting too deep and boring.

Moz is outstanding at building a base foundation for digital marketing, their content guides and so on are really well written and can help tremendously. However, once you stop being a beginner and you're looking at much more advanced technical SEO this is where Moz falls short sadly.

It really depends on where you are at with your website and online marketing. Moz is a great source but can be a little overwhelming when you are starting form zero.
