Our take
Based on the ratings of 5,853 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in September 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
Daniel Gakwaya's course starts from zero and keeps going for about 116 hours, spread over 560 lectures, 184 quizzes and 104 coding exercises. The sections in the syllabus run from environment setup through pointers, strings, function templates, C++20 concepts and classes. The description also promises ranges, modules, coroutines and move semantics. Reviewers come from every level, from a mechanical engineering student to someone with 15 years in the industry, and most say the slow, thorough approach worked for them.
What students praise is the patience. Reviewers say he explains the reasoning and what happens behind the scenes, shows plenty of examples, and writes well-commented code. One person who had finished Mosh Hamedani's course said this one goes much deeper. The complaints are consistent too. Some find it repetitive, with videos that run long and exercises that are too easy. A few want big projects instead of small snippets. One reviewer disliked trick questions in the quizzes, and another notes that threads and synchronization are not covered.
The rating is 4.4 from 5,853 reviews, and most of it is four and five stars. The course was updated in September 2026, which is reassuring for a language that keeps changing. One recent one-star review says the editor setup has moved on and the videos do not help, so expect to sort that out with current docs. It is a good pick for anyone who wants depth and does not mind a slow pace. Fast learners should look elsewhere.
Pros
- Explains what happens behind the scenes, not just syntax, say reviewers
- 184 quizzes and 104 coding exercises give steady practice
- Well-commented example code that one reviewer found easy to follow
- Goes deeper than a shorter beginner course, per a reviewer who compared it to Mosh's
Cons
- Repetitive and slow for some, with videos that run long
- Exercises are too simple for some reviewers, who want larger projects
- Setup reportedly dated for current VS Code; threads are not covered
I'd highly recommend this course for anyone who is wanting to learn c++ or brush up on the fundamentals. The instructor, Daniel Gakwaya, takes time to breakdown the concepts and provides a ton of examples.
Suits true beginners and C++ refreshers. Experienced C++ users may find the early sections slow.

Welcome to the C++ 23 Masterclass! A course designed to teach you cutting edge modern C++ from the absolute beginning all the way to very advanced topics, the topics you need in areas where C++ is used massively in modern times. Want to be a confident game developer? High performance applications in the financial sector, how about powerful software modules on top of which server systems, network infrastructure, database systems, even operating systems themselves run on top of? Well C++ is the dominant language used in these areas and many more! C++ is the programming language even other programming languages and technologies like NodeJS, PHP, Java, JavaScript and many more are written in.
By learning modern C++, you will be setting yourself up for success in writing software that runs devices ranging from bare metal embedded devices, to mainstream electronic tech products like fridges, toasters, to networking infrastructure like routers and switches, all the way to power plants, manufacturing facilities and medical equipment. C++ is simply everywhere!
This course was carefully designed in a way that it will make you ready to take on technologies and industries where C++ is widely used, by teaching you Modern C++ the way it is used in industry, and you will learn and master how to use shiny new features from the latest C++ standard (C++20) like ranges, modules coroutines, concepts, the three way comparison infrastructure and many more features spread out through out chapters and lectures in the course.
This course will teach you modern C++ from the absolute beginning all the way to a point where you can use advanced features like function templates, class templates, polymorphism, move semantics, functors , callbacks, STL container, iterators and algorithms, I will even show you how to build iterators for your own collection types, giving you the tools to plug into the infrastructure provided by the C++ standard library to tune it to your own needs. Here are some of the things you'll get to master through this course :

C++ is a very broad language with a lot of features. The instructor in this course explained every topic in a very detailed way, and even added information how certain things work behind the scenes, which is great as well, and helps out if moving further and learn more things in programming in general. I would consider it as a beginner to advanced level kind of course as well. After finishing this course I felt ready to tackle Qt, Multithreading and more things involving C++. Completing this course and doing every exercise opened me doors to other intermediate-advanced topics. 5/5 stars, I would recommend the course, and are more than hyped to start his Qt courses as well.

This is literally THE BEST c++ course I have ever had, not only in udemy. I am already working in the hi-tech industry for about 15+ years, and I have a lot of experience with c, and intermediate experience in c++. The extremely complex stuff that are taught and demonstrated are very valuable and well explained. I am learning the most advanced and required topics here faster than I thought I would.

I already know C++ at a late-beginner level as I followed parts 1 & 2 of Mosh Hamedani's Ultimate C++ Course (I stopped at classes in part 3), But I noticed that mosh doesn't hardly go deep at all, while THIS course feels 10x better and goes WAY deeper into the language. I can't wait to see how much more this course educates me than Mosh's course.

Excellent course with detailed explanations and very clear coding examples. The instructor covers every single point thoroughly. I especially appreciated the well-commented code, which makes understanding the logic much faster and easier. Even when I found some concepts challenging at first, watching the videos provided a deep dive that cleared everything up. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a structured and clear learning path!

No course covers everything you need to know about a programming language but this is an excellent introduction to C++. I took this course as a complimentary course for another more difficult/advanced course (with a different instructor) that glossed over some important things. After filling in some gaps in my knowledge, I feel better prepared to approach hard c++ concepts. To be clear, I probably would have taken this course much sooner if I could have tried out one of the sections that include the lecture, coding, assignment, and quiz. In my opinion, these 4 things and their quality, is the unique selling point of this course. It is what truly sets this course above its peers. The only negative are with the assignments. Sometimes users are encouraged to correct each other's work but I never found anyone willing to correct my work even though I did correct others. Maybe there should be a system that prioritizes pairing users who correct the work of others. This is probably beyond the features offered with Udemy but its just a thought.

The course started from foundation, the exercises were good, was organized in the right sequence. Improvements: examples and instructions to build C++20 modules didn't work on MacOS. Also some of the assignments that I completed & submitted from MacOS were missing tick marks, but considered as completed w.r.t % complete. Some UI issue, I guess.

57.1 quiz very dumb question, author tried to be clever and ask a trick question, but instead showed himself as unintelligent, because there is no right answer, or both answers can be considered correct. 67 quiz is a matter of taste, there is no right answer and author provides his own opinions for the preference, but those are subjective. And who can forget non-standard, inconsistent code formatting to obfuscate important parts on the quizzes, so author can get off the one cheap gotcha's. (Very immature, or even un-civilized).

Muy bueno para quienes tenemos experiencia en otros lenguajes y queremos tener unas bases solidas en c++
By Gal Buki on 11/6/2025
The presenter is very knowledgeable and presents many details and nuances of the language that are left out in other courses. The presentations include in most cases the same information twice, first as a slide and than as live coding in the IDE. This increases the length of the course artificially and I often skip over the second part.

I am so glad he came back and updated to Visual Studio. Too many folks have tried to force VS Code and it's just not appropriate tool for CPP. React, Angular, anything front end, interpreted, absolutely yes. But Visual Studio is hands down the tool to use for compiled C or CPP. I can't wait to dive back into this course.
