The Rust Programming Language (Udemy.com)

There is noting wrong with the Course if you do not know anything about programming. However, for someone who has programmed the intro is a bit slow. Parts of the course describe features that are unique to Rust. Since the Cours is lecture base it gives you knowledge which is not equivalent to learning. It would be much better with programming exercises. I took some time to use some of the new material in dummy code. In general the information is very good. However, the lecture learning style is less effective for programming courses.

Overall, this is a great course to begin learning Rust. However, the course is pretty outdated in some key areas and needs to be updated. Dimitri does a wonderful job with explaining concepts, but if you don't have any programming experience coming into this course, you're likely to find yourself stuck at certain points, without the ability to comprehend the compiler errors and fix your code. Also, for anyone just coming to this course - don't expect to get answers to your questions (if you have any). The course is older, and the majority of the QA section is at least 2 years old. Some of the content is helpful, but nobody is actively commenting any more. I'd recommend this course for anyone who has at least 6 months of prior programming knowledge. You need to be able to understand the compiler errors in a couple of spots in order to get your code working.

I have taken a break from programming for a while, and now I am nearing a return to learning things. The important part is to take it easy and do things methodically, and this time it feels better to study. And I am confident I will enjoy this course in the future as well. UPDATE: I finished the course and it was pretty nice getting all the things to work, and to see the structure of all the parts of the language (RUST).

Not up-to-date information

I'm not too confident in the knowledge of the instructor. I've just begun the course and there are already a few things he got wrong (shadowing, constants).

Instructor knows his stuff and demonstrates the Rust language well. What is missing are quizzes, exercises and projects to practice what you're learning and apply it.

Good course, quite exhaustive. A couple sections could use a small update.

The course is short and crisp and covers all the necessary concepts needed to get started with Rust.

You can learn a lot about Rust in this class. I would warn that this is not a class for beginning programmers, there is no hand-holding. The instructor moves quickly through the material, but covers the key points of a language that is significantly different from other languages in its way of implementing OOP concepts. I think the organization of the material could be better, and I would like all the covered source code to be included. But on balance, I would say this that a lot of non-trivial aspects of the language were covered pretty well and pretty concisely. I give kudos for that. I would also point out that the instructor is clearly still answering questions and is not neglecting the course. That can be a concern in some classes. It might take a few days, but he has gotten around to the questions I have asked and I have been happy with the answers.

This course covered exactly what I wanted. The official online rust book is an excellent reference and covers all the fundamentals, but is difficult to sit down and read. This course covered most of the rust book with great examples at a good pace, and made the fundamentals of rust much easier to digest.

This guy knows his stuff. When you can tell the history of something, you know it inside out.
