Taking this course was a bit challenging at the beginning because i felt left behind not understanding why my VM refused to work but as i put in more time and effort in making research and making use of the course materials available i finally got a hang of it and i'm totally loving it.

A very basic introductory course. I have no doubt that the instructor is an expert in his field, and he also takes the extra few steps to make sure very few stones are left unturned. And he does so without going into overwhelming detail and scare off the complete beginner. Being a novice in most facets of IT, I appreciate that the instructor makes very few assumptions about the student regarding the database field. He does assume that the student knows how to use a computer, knows Microsoft Windows, how to use an internet browser and how to download and install things etc, so if you need help with the absolute basics of IT this is not where you start. Overall, I am satisfied. However, and this is why there are four stars and not five, I would really appreciate if there was information about the formal requirements to enter the field of becoming a DBA. I am looking for a career change, but I don't have a university degree and I'm bad at math. At the same time, my impression is that you need to have a solid foundation in Computer Science and Mathematics if you want to enter the IT field, and regarding databases, I've heard of something called relational algebra and so on and so forth. I really liked this course, and the instructor seems to really like his job, which makes it the more intriguing, but I don't want to purchase a lot of courses and then halfway through realize, that I don't have the foundation to actually become a DBA. If the instructor had addressed that concern in some way, like say "anyone can do this" or "make sure you know A, B and C before you continue down this path", then I would give this course five stars. Maybe he did talk about it and I overheard it. In that case, I apologize. EDIT: Instructor messaged me, and told me that math is not necessary, and basically that taking all his courses will be enough to pave a way for a career change. I'm sure there's lots of self-study and hard work involved, but for that info I will give this free course five stars.

Same problem of paid courses of same author. A mess of SQL versions, 2012, 2014 and a bad addendum with SQL 2016. It would be more honest the authorsaid: hey, my training is outdated, only SQL 2014.

Raf is an excellent instructor. He explains the material and sequence of events clearly. After taking his course, I feel like the only thing holding me back is me! These concepts are a different area of thought for me and they take time for me to digest. This course is perfect for that learning style since I can study then go away for a few hours, days, or whenever I have time again and then pick back up exactly where I left off.

Overall this is a great introductory course for setting environments and getting a sneak peek at what a DBA does. Because I have some working knowledge of how to create a virtual environment, installing an OS, installing SQL Server, and attaching a database some of the videos I did run at 1.25 speed which worked well. I built my environment using Windows 10 Hyper-V, Server 2016 DC, and SQL Server 2016 running on Server 2016. I even learned a few things that I did not know which I can use right away in my current job as a CRM Product Support Analyst. Recommended ~ Murph

Very informative. I had absolutely zero knowledge when I started this venture. I originally went straight to SSRS courses. Now I am starting from this course on, following the outline created Database Admin. Ultimate goal is to be able to create reports with confidence for a production environment using multiple databases.

I have all courses. I have enjoyed Raphael teaching. Just in this course I learned a few things I didn't know. Just one thing: I did find myself having to stop and go back on some information because he was a little fast in explaining. Other than that I look forward to learning more and hope I can gain the knowledge I need to get a better position in my career.

I have been following Raphael's courses for last one year and have been very pleased with his style of instruction. His classes are 'to the point' and I must say he is very responsive and quick when any question asked. The community as well is very helpful and responsive if you have any questions. I do recommend this course for beginners.

What a wonderful introduction to SQL world. I want to write exams for SQL server 2016 and i already bought your T-sql, database admin 1 to 3 hopefully they will be of great help to pass the exam. Lastly i believe taking your courses will prepare me to take up employment as Junior SQL DBA or BI. Thanks for the videos

The course material is nicely balanced, we went through how to install and configure Windows Server 2012 in order to be able to install SQL Server on it afterwards. This part was not overly detailed (as the course is not about Windows 2012) but detailed enough for learning a lot during the process. I find this very helpful as I think DBAs should be able to know / understand (at least on a high level...) the environment in which SQL Server runs. The instructor goes through the material step by step while explaining them. The speed is also ideal I think.
