Great course to get into the world of tone and what pedals are involved into get a great guitar tone from multiple range of types of music and players, definitely recommend since it covers the principles or scientific facts of what it involve in the sound (frequencies and more), now I understand better this topic than before with the practical examples in order to experiment as mentioned my tones base on the fact of recommendation to emulate the masters of guitar tones thru the history of electric guitars basically. Thanks so much for the effort to you David Wills put to get all this value information and all the collaborators to make this course available

This is not for complete beginners, a lot of content assumes prior knowledge and familiarity with certain terms also part of the material is show rather quickly and not targeted at complete beginners, also the fact there are poor quality auto-generated subtitles makes this harder to even catch some of the terms and names to google them. The promo video makes promises that are not delivered like some interviews but also in terms of general expectations. Overall you will probably learn much but the target is someone who already has at least a fair amount of experience with amps and pedals and is looking to get more insight and learn some tip and tricks from a pro, it's not a good start for a complete beginner though. Beware the course title (Ultimate Guitar Tone School) definitely does not match the content, I would rather say it takes your beginner tone skills and brings them to intermediate and beyond levels.

Overall, this was a very worthwhile course. The fact that he is trying to cater to all types of electric guitar players over multiple decades makes it almost daunting. But I learned quite a bit along the way. The course could have used some overlay graphics while going through various effect permutations, and it probably could use a glossary or an introduction to the various amplifiers (he just assumes we know what a Plexi is, or the various Fender amps). Still, this is the kind of primer that teaches most of the principles involved and really helps make sense of the various YouTube videos helping you dial in a specific tone.

Once upon a time I bought a Boss Overdrive pedal; I was really disappointed with it. Truth be told this course has taught me that I wasn't even using it right. And what's so ridiculous is that bad experience I had based on my own inexperience coloured all my guitar effects choices from that point on. Well, no more. Dave and Rooster laid a great foundation here by starting with the scientific principles of how the guitar actually makes sound - this I found incredibly helpful. The course builds from there into practical application of the plethora of amps/effects/guitars. Now although music can be a creative experimental process there's no doubt that sometimes there are "dos and don'ts", and this course really helped me to see that. My thoughts on where the course might be lacking: I think it needs one or two more videos. I'd suggest 1) on more modern musicians - especially interesting ones like the smashing pumpkins; and 2) also just the really commonplace super heavy distortion of modern popular metal bands like Slipknot, or Periphery. Although to be fair Misha Mansoor from Periphery shares much of this himself; so the course helps me navigate the internet a bit better. Highly recommended.

I was a bit disappointed that this course seems to focus so much on vintage gear and specific guitar and amp combinations that many beginner to intermediate players don't own. The course also focusses very heavily on early rock players, so if you're into other styles of music, don't expect too much. The section on effects was ok to learn about how the various effects are used, and suggested placement of effects in the signal chain, but didn't really get into how to use each effect...like what the knobs did and how to set them to get good tone. A lot of it assumes that you have preexisting knowledge of all this vintage gear. I learned a few things, but much less then i had hoped for

Really useful course. I’ve played the guitar for years and was mainly interested in learning how to mic guitar amps up for recording. Although there’s only one module on mic selection and placement, it was thorough enough for me to get started. What surprised me was how many useful tips I picked up along the way on effects, amps and tone. Definitely worth the money. I honestly believe that even the most seasoned guitarist will learn something new.

It was good, but leaning towards the beginner. Good overview of how amps work and what the different effects are. However, if you don't know anything about the topic then using words like "Dumble" and "PAF" might leave you wondering. If you do know something about the topic, then it would have been great to deep dive even further into each effect and common parameters (for example how the common parameters in a compressor works). I would have liked to see more video shots of the pedal settings too when talking about them. But, overall entertaining and useful as a high-level overview.

Very amazing and educational course on amps, pedals and tone. Great practical examples of these demonstrations, being played by an experience guitarist . Great comparisons of many pedals. Also the course is a great snapshot of the gear used over the last 50 years by famous guitarist. Best so far I have seen on amps, pedals and tone. The teacher also has a lot of compassion and knowledge on these subjects. Highly recommended for a good oversight on amps, pedals, and tone theory and how they sound.

This is definitely the ultimate guitar tone course. The presenters are not amateurs trying to fake it until they make it. They are connected with and have worked together with hall of fame level musicians and share their firsthand experience. (Designing a pedal board for Joe Perry of Aerosmith is good enough for me!) They go very deep and I had to watch the videos a few times to digest what they were saying. After playing around and experimenting, I will go back and watch them again. One thing that I will say... if you just picked up your first electric guitar and amplifier last week, you may find yourself a bit lost. This is quite advanced material. I would still recommend it, though. Start immersing yourself and learn the right way. Don't waste your time trying to be self-taught using the internet. The presenters in this course will definitely not lead you astray.

I really enjoyed this course, it gave me a great overview of how tone is created, how tone is affected by the various configurations and hardware. David and Rooster do a great job explaining the different types of pedals, amplifiers, and guitars and how they can affect the tone based on the order as well as the settings. Rooster does a great job explaining how the sounds are different when played through the various amplifiers as well as the guitars that are used. This course is a great primer for understanding how different tones are achieved. They showed that it can be complex but not difficult as long as you are willing to experiment. The take away for me is to experiment with the various sounds. Fortunately today there are several great simulation / emulation applications that are available so that I can experiment with the different sounds without spending a fortune on hardware. David, Rooster, thank you for your time and effort in putting together a great course. And a big thanks to all the others who helped out.
