Course Description

Welcome to my course on Three.js and Typescript.

Three.js is a JavaScript library that allows developers to create exciting and very visual interactive 3D content on the internet.

TypeScript introduces static type checking, which means you can explicitly define the types of variables, function parameters, and return values. This catches potential errors during development, making your code more robust and reliable.

TypeScript also integrates well with modern IDEs and offers intelligent code hinting and autocompletion.

Threejs has become a hugely valuable resource on the internet and provides millions of possibilities, however many new learners struggle in their early stages while trying to de-cypher the huge amount of resources on the internet.

So this is where this course will help you. It will guide you first with the essential basics of using Threejs and its related addons library, and as the course progresses, each now concept will build on the previous, and become increasingly more sophisticated, so that you understand the problem that each new concept was designed to solve.

So, at the end, you would have covered many of the requirements to understand how to build your own Threejs projects and also understand the official examples better. This is so you can confidently continue on your own to build much more complex applications in the future.

All the code demonstrated in the videos, is provided in this accompanying documentation, that you can access for free online, so that you can easily copy and paste and participate alongside the videos.

So, if you know that you like coding, you like seeing it work for yourself, and you like to experiment, and have millions of ideas that you want to explore, then this course is for you.

There is much to learn, but in the end you would have developed the techniques required to build your own Threejs projects and participate more effectively in the 3D developer community.

Thanks for taking part in my course, and I hope to see you there.

Sean

I took this course right after completing the instructor’s React Three Fiber course. It was a bit more advanced, but the explanations were very detailed and easy to follow. I especially liked the deployment section, which covered static deployment, cloud server setup, and SSL. Overall, this was a very useful and well-structured course. :D

Straight to the point, tons of information, very well explained. Instructor has some questionable typescript habits that new students may pick up (e.g: using "as" for nested types instead of the provided typescript generics, using map instead of forEach where the returned array is unused, using ternary operators in place of if statements when they're designed to conditionally assign a value etc). Still overall a great course.

I rarely leave reviews but this course is super good!! I'm not even all the way done with it and have already started on my own projects. Having the course template to work with was super helpful in actually getting me to learn because I could mess around as much as I needed to! Great teacher also.

This course in wonderful! I must mention that without prior knowledge of JS and a bit of HTML it would be impossible to achieve clear results. I had a few issues with my code in the last 10 lectures, but it turned out fine. This course seems to be short at first, but that is only because we do not type any code in here. 90% of the time we read the code from the author and uncomment blocks to make it work. I did not like that that much, but I understand the reasoning behind it. Additionally, I had a few cases when my code did not do the same thing that Sean's did. Turned out the video was edited too good and I just missed a part of uncommenting and therefore my code did not work. To conclude, the ThreeJS topic is quite hard and especially if it is your first package to learn (like in my case). Glad I found Sean's course and despite the complexity, I think I got all the knowledge I needed to start the work and create my own 3D projects. Thanks!

Very informative course that covers a lot of Three.js. The server tutorials are good also though a lot is assumed you know your way around and what the instructor is talking about which I dont really but thats not a fault of the course material as it is one on Three.js and typescript. All in all I highly recommend the course to anyone wanting to know more about 3D and web, Sean is a great instructor. Thanks!

Really straightforward, accurate and clear communication style. Not the most energizing, although the information and flow of information are optimal. It would have been nice to have the Mac version of Nginx setup flow. This course was easy to follow although I didn't grasp all the information, a bit advanced for my level but I expected to need more than one course to understand Three.js. It would have been nice to see one large project comprised of smaller lessons, as the lessons felt disjointed. Overall, decent beginner course (y)

Highly recommend this course as a great start to Web 3D. You can see a lot of detail and work put into the accompanying documentation, code before/after snippets, Blender examples, and sample images. Really thorough! But you really gotta wait till the end for extra amazing stuff, like running a multi-player game over various server configs. As a web Developer (new to 3D) didn't know Blender was such a great partner tool to three.js. The Author demonstrates important features in Blender, creating and exporting assets to three.js, simply and concise.. Such a valuable tool i'm now learning (Blender) - and the extra real-world content towards the end of the course is so very useful. Thanks Sean!

Personally, I enjoyed going through the course. I was able to arrange and extend my (previously fragmentary) knowledge on many three.js topics, especially the usage of lights, textures and materials, and also raycasting and model import. Some topics, such as physics and sockets in multi-player context, were absolutely new to me and fun to learn. The part where you set up a server, a domain name and a certificate seemed a little irrelevent to me, partly because I'm a web developer and I deal with that stuff everyday, but I totally understand that this content is targeted at people looking to create a multiplayer game so in this context it's entirely valid. What this course might benefit from: - The Typescript touch is only superficial, the author doesn't tell you why this or that type is picked and what other alternatives exist; in many places, types are just omitted or "any" is used. For a course with "Typescript" in the title, I was hoping for a more profound acquaintance with three.js type system - Classifying lessons down into sections would make it easier to navigate and return to previous topics - Quizzes / tests for knowledge assessment and reinforcement would be a good idea - This course still left me looking for an introduction into faces/vertices, transformation matrices, object grouping, and morph animations; although I admit this might be a little advanced for the beginner level Despite these minor factors, my overall impression from the course is overwhelmingly positive, and I feel like I've taken a level up in my abilities to create 3D graphics for the web. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to get into three.js and even to create fairly complicated stuff by the time they complete the course. Excellent!

Amazing tutor. Having a mirror website of the material helps a lot. Every other training will feel lame after you join Sean's course. Also, the day I've finished main lessons I've realized he's been updating the content and I'm happily back to to watch one more time with new stuff. Thank you Sean.

Sean has put a lot of work on the course and it shows. It is a fantastic course to get you up to speed on writing 3D scenes on the web with Three.js. It is up to date with the latest version of the threejs library. This course can also serve as a good introduction to writing your frontend code in TS (instead of JS). And that is knowledge you can transfer to other non threejs related projects. The course can be challenging if you don't have experience with threejs (and maybe a bit of 3d programming concepts) and writing software on the web with javascript and typescript. But again, Sean does a great job to hold your hand through out the process. The companion examples and source code in github are very helpful. You can reset your code to a valid state. You can also use them as boilerplate for your projects. I have only seen Sean smile once in the whole course (can you find where?). He is all about business. Thank you, Sean.
