For years I've been teaching Ableton Live in the college classroom. As a University Professor, my classes are sought after, and, frankly, expensive. I believe Ableton Live can be learned by anyone, and cost shouldn't be a barrier. This class uses the same outline and syllabus I've used in my college classes for years, at a fraction of the cost.
This is Part 4: Synths & Samplers
This is a really deep class - tons of content, tricks, and tips. I'll go through all of the Ableton Live Instruments in this class, with considerable detail on each one. We will also talk about synthesis tricks and tips, getting the most out of your samplers, and tons of production tips.
Topics include:
Synthesis Basics
Types of Synthesis
Physical Modeling Synthesis

I will be making 6 (six!) complete classes in order to bring you the most comprehensive manual on Ableton Live production techniques ever created. Each class has Sets, sessions, and experiments for you to try on your own and follow along with.
And of course, once you sign up for any part, you automatically get huge discounts on all the upcoming parts (the next 5!) of this class.

Praise for other classes by J. Anthony Allen:
"I've had Live Lite for a while but never quite understood how to use it because of the different options in how to arrange audio. This course explains exactly how to do that and get the most out of Live."
"Great overview - I would start here for sure if you are just getting your feet wet with Live. clear and to the point. session walkthroughs are great. looking forward to more"
"I have never had any formal training in music at all. Trying to learn all the notes and how everything translated was a serious challenge. After going thru this class, Dr. J has totally brought down the barriers. The content was very useful and was easy to grasp for me."

I found this course to be very interesting and engaging. The lectures were very helpful in helping me to understand the powerful synths and samplers available in Ableton Live. I feel much more comfortable working in Ableton after taking this course.

A great course for introducing Live's built-in Instruments by overviewing what each one does and how to accurately control it. The content was clear and well-defined and is most certainly a must watch as either an introduction or catch-up of what is available in terms of synthesis for the D.A.W. However, one slight issue is that some of the videos have a bit of glitchy audio which cuts some words out, but it doesn't do so to any important information whatsoever!

This is an outstanding course! I am understanding things that I never thought I would! I bought Ableton a year ago and almost gave up on it because I did not know how it really works. While taking this course I feel that I will have the knowledge to be a professional at making music in Ableton. This course is for young and old, beginner and expert and I recommend it for all Ableton users!

Once again a great class. The course is huge and covers a massive amount of stuff that will take hours to master, but needs a starting point which this gives you in detail. The explanations are very clear and the pace is great. After going through the first 4 courses so far I feel like I can actually write and work in Ableton.

I'm a total amateur when it comes to making music. Ableton software put me off for a long time (as did any DAW) but I've seen the first 3 parts of this and now this one (4th) and everything is making perfect sense. Part 4 touches on synthesisers, samples and racks which really helps you get an understanding on what is going on within a pre-set and will allow you to get started on sound design, although really that’s a whole different thing by itself within production and will take a ton of learning, or trial and error.
By Joseph Cotter on 1/30/2017
Overall the class was very good and covered a lot of material. It was also pretty inclusive of the features of the instruments, but I felt it would have been stronger if there were better examples in the different instrument sections.
By Geoff Spence on 10/11/2016
Loved the course. Jason is really engaging. I sailed through the first 3 courses and lots of the instruments were quite straight forward but Instrument racks and drum racks is tough. Will need to do lots of work to understand these fully. Cheers

Really have grasped the ADSR settings and the OSC settings. Speed is just right, and the examples of letting us hear the exact changes to parameters is so helpful. Didn't quite understand the "kinds" of synthesizers because there were no sound examples but I think it will make sense later. I'm just trying to understand the synths and use them correctly. I'm so excited to be learning calmly instead of being frustrated at seeing all these controls and not knowing what they do or how to use them. My learning curve is very sped up thanks to this course. The inner workings of these instruments is quite complicated and the myriad of sounds limitless. It is helpful to see how the instrument settings or presets can create sounds I can most likely use in actual music production.

I've been taking the whole Ableton series and keep getting more and more blown away with what the program is capable of doing. The instructor is great. I've told a couple of friends about the series and have described it as if a good friend were explaining it to me while we're hanging out in his studio. I'm totally comfortable with his style of teaching now and I'm looking forward to finishing the whole series!

This course takes you under the hood into the complexities and capabilities of Ableton's Synths, Samplers, Racks and more. Very thorough and delivered with a patient but fast-moving style. Sound and video are well done as well.
