Course Description
Learn the composition, NOT the unnecessary technicalities!
This course does not contain FMOD, WWise, or any other middleware. Game composers do not need to know how to use these softwares. The sound designers or developers of the game will integrate your music for you. The only reason a composer would ever need to know how to use these softwares (and why you see so many articles telling you to "LEARN FMOD") is because you need to understand the logic and principles behind how game audio actually works. You just need to understand how music is implemented into a game, not actually implement it yourself. Developers just want to make sure you know how, and what they mean when they ask you to compose 'adaptive music for trigger zones', or 'music tags for each loop'. This course will give you all of that knowledge, without the need to learn any additional softwares!
"Familiarity with audio middleware is a useful skill. At the very least, it affords us valuable insight into the process by which our music is incorporated into game projects. In my experience, most development teams prefer to handle their own audio implementation." - Winifred Phillips (God of War, Assassin's Creed, Little Big Planet, et al.)

An ENTIRE section dedicated to in-depth mixing techniques, taken from my EDM course to give you all the tools you need to achieve a modern, wide, and full sound - it's almost as if you're getting two courses for the price of one!
I share everything I know with you
Everything I teach you in this course has taken me years to learn. You're gaining 10+ years of game music composition knowledge in one complete course.
The game industry is growing astronomically each year. It's going to need some talented composers to provide music for every new game!
What's in it for me?
Honestly, the gratification of seeing students succeed and learn. I am very passionate about teaching, and I truly believe that we should all be helping each other grow as composers and music producers. Musicians are extremely tight-lipped, and secretive about their techniques. I simply don't understand this. Which is why I am sharing this course with you to teach you the secrets behind why some game scores are so emotionally powerful, and why others just fall flat.
Requirements:
You will need to have a DAW (FL Studio, Ableton, GarageBand) and an ability to use the software to practice the techniques I teach you.
You will also need to have a very basic understanding of music theory. Throughout the course, I am talking about notes, chords, minor, and major. I have tried to simplify everything as best as I can, but you will need this basic theory to be able to understand the concepts!
So if you're ready to learn professional game music composition, music theory secrets, mixing, and mastering, buy the course and take your skills to the next level. There is a 30-day money back guarantee, so if you dislike the course (or me), you can receive a full refund. There really is nothing to lose!

My name is Ben and I've been producing music since 2009, a hobby that has since spurred my interest in all aspects of audio production and sound. I've been signed to record labels with releases in House, Progressive House, Tech House, and Techno.
I've sound engineered innumerable concerts and worked on stage with artists such as Sam Fender (Really cool dude, uses a bong to steam his vocal-cords before performances!), Maverick Sabre, and Little Green Cars. From these experiences, I've been able to go on and work in Theatre, designing sound effects and ambiences to be used in pantomimes and musicals... Then operating QLab to run the show.
I've also composed game music for Indie Developers, and helped with foley and sound design on their projects. An interesting experience which has helped me to produce and mix sound for film and documentary.
I don't claim to be an expert - nobody is. But I do believe that I can teach you some of the knowledge I've gained over the years. I hope you enjoy my courses!

Perfect for filling in the gaps I was looking to target. This hit pretty much just what I was looking for... It also covered so much that I'm almost not sure where to start... I already had a good music theory grounding going in, though it feels like he hit the highlights of music theory pretty well, with a heavy focus on enabling artistic expression so that the created music matches the emotion of the scene. A nice general explanation of various musical elements and how you might interpret them emotionally... How tempo, interval type, instrument choice and so on can effect emotion. Very insightful tips on different game music specific structural techniques, and some insights on game music design in general. A quick primer on mixing and mastering, particularly in FL Studio as part of the main course with a focus on orchestra, then a giant bonus section with way too much additional information along those lines.

Its useful so far even just the theory. What I've been doing up until now is just putting down what feels good. It will take extra time to reveal the theoretical terms behind what I'm doing. but I imagine it will be time well spent when Im stuck. Keeping a composition intereting by implementing enough variation is what is often lacking in my works. I bet what I've already learned can get me further in that department. Im excited to put it all to good use.

So far, modules/sections have been short and easy to follow. They have been very detailed and focused on the subject. As introductions and overviews go, these have captured and covered exactly what you would expect without bombarding you with terminology and acronyms. I watched quite a few free samples from various courses on similar subjects, I feel that this was the right one and was exactly what I was looking for.

It's good, I learned how to structure my head when first approaching this kind of composing, the course delivers what it says. If you have no idea you will learn something, if you have "some" idea like it was my case you can learn a lot and figure out what you need to get more knowledge of (like music theory or mixing-mastering). There is an extra step which is learning WWISE and/or FMOD to integrate the sound with the game.

rick_b, I'm a novice, your teaching style, information, application is so GREAT, I constantly come back to these lessons to verify what I hear out there on music purchase sites & comparing what I learn here, while I'm searching for identifiable sounds for application to my videos. Thank you for making this information available.

Very informative. I’ve made a PDF of all the resources he’s provide and have already begun resourcing it while composing. I have made a few tracks with the instructors logic and advice, and I can honestly say I haven’t felt this confident making music in a long time. You don’t know that you don’t know until someone tells you that you don’t know, and I now know there is so much I didn’t know thanks to the instructor.

This course is great and really covers all the aspects of composing music for games. I've gone through it twice in two weeks, 2nd time making notes and i can just say wow. If you're looking for a course to elevate your compositions for games, look no further.

This course immediately taught me so many eye opening things I didn't know about when it comes to video game music I love in just a few videos. If you don't have time to go to music school this is definitely a great way to get up to speed, be able to apply the ideas to make music you like, and start researching things on your own. It covers both theory and practice of how you can manipulate your music in its many videos. That said it is very brief on some topics like atmosphere. It just makes the idea make enough sense for you to play around on your own and gives a lot of examples. It doesn't go into how atmosphere works though. This happens with many other topics in the course too. The course often links to many external resources to cover these spots however and it's not all topics that are covered briefly this way. Finally, even for the topics that are better explained on how they work you're not going to get the in depth expert knowledge you'd get from music school. The most valuable thing you can get from this course is the perspective, insight over many different tools in music theory, and the ability to make many different types of emotional music at all really.

It brings me through all the questions that I had. I'm a complete Beginner and didn't understood all the Music Theory Videos on YouTube and in Books. But now my Picture of music and how it works becomes more and more clearly. I'm really happy with this course.

Great material and I learned a lot on this course! This will really give you great direction on the unique parts of making music for video games, with a lot of technical and detailed advice on the different music a game needs. It also gives good advice on how to get started in the industry if you are looking to make video game music professionally. While I would normally prefer a project-based course, this course (which is mostly theory with a few assignments) allowed me to study while I was on the go. I'm concurrently doing a number of courses on game design, and was looking for something I could study when I wasn't at the computer. The main frustration I had was how often the instructor says: "I can't tell you how to do this, just do what feels good to you." I can already do that without paying for a course. The sentiment is good, and I agree, you can't really say "This is how to do music." but there is also a lot of value in seeing how an experienced composer would go about creating a type of music or mood. Examples give context to the theory. The bonus content at the end is a perfect example of this. I got a lot out of seeing how the instructor mixed and mastered the track that I wouldn't have been able to get if he just explained the theory of how to master. Overall, the course has a lot of great content and I definitely recommend it!
