Course Description
(RE-RECORDED JULY 2022, UPDATED OCT 2020 w/ TESTING)
Vue.js 3 and the Composition API is here!
Learn to build a complex, real world application with the Composition API, TypeScript, Pinia and Vue Router, taught by Lachlan Miller. maintainer of Vue Test Utils and Vue.js team member. This is an intermediate-advanced course aimed at developers with some basic programming experience with tools such ES6 JavaScript.
We move fast and introduce all the required topics to build highly dynamic, complex single page apps with Vue.js 3 and the new Composition API.
Unlike other courses, testing and design patterns are at the core of everything we do. We explore the new features Vue.js 3 brings to the table. Some of the things you'll learn:
- How to use and test new Vue 3 components with Cypress and Test Utils
- Building reusable modules using the new reactivity API
- TypeScript to create type safe applications
- Creating a complex, real-time markdown editor
- Integrating third party libraries from npm
- Implementing authentication and authorisation with JWT (JSON Web Tokens) and cookies
- Routing, include navigation guards with Vue Router 4
- Writing and testing complex interactions (Vitest, Vue Test Utils)
- A real back end with Express and TypeScript
This is an intermediate to advanced course; some basic programming knowledge is required. I respect your time and have packed as much content into the course as possible. Rather than explaining the same basic concepts 10 times over, move quickly and see the same concepts applied in different contexts to reinforce them.

First of all, the course good. I already have quite some experience building Vue 3 applications, but I have learned some new things here. Exactly what I was hoping for. The downside, the course is a little old by now. Even though the code is still valid, the versions of the npm libraries used are outdated. So I recommend to re-record the course using up-to-date npm libraries.

I left this rating because the overall explanation was clear and helpful, especially in identifying the main issue. However, I would have appreciated more depth in the testing section, particularly around best practices, async handling, and how to make the test more robust. With a deeper testing explanation, it would have been excellent.

Brilliant. So much information in just one course! A lot of knowledge compressed into 6 hours. The coding style uses best practices and TESTS - rare in the courses but very important for the development. Well done! Suggestion for the requirements in order not to overwhelm the users and thus get bad reviews: Typescript knowledge is a must. And please use a slightly smaller font in the code so that more than just 25 lines can be seen. Thanks

As a backend developer, I have always struggled with learning Frontend frameworks and libraries like Angular, VueJS, or ReactJS, well until I found this course. I am learning TypesScript, and VueJS using industry standards, and it feels like I am just using Jinja 2. This is such an awesome course. Thank you.

I’m currently taking this course and found it to be an excellent learning experience. The course is easy to understand and very detailed in its explanation of the setup function. The instructor is very concise in his delivery of the material, which allowed me to quickly grasp the concepts being presented. I found the course to be very helpful in understanding the basics of Vue 3, vite, composition api, SFC, typescript and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn the basics of this powerful framework.

I am halfway through and I find it wonderful!! It's challenging especially if you are not familiar with typescript, but definitely worth doing it if you wish to step up. I like the fact that he is concise and goes directly to the point. Really glad I purchased it!! thanks Lachlan!!

The author's explanation is concise and up to the point. He introduces the logical procedures of thinking. However if you're new to vue, it's almost impossible to not look up the documentations to keep up with the course. It's a good course if you just want to catch what concepts you should learn and how to wrangle them, but if you want to learn the details of each concepts of vue, this course might not be for you. I spent a lot of time reading the documentation, and it took me a lot more than the lectures' runtime to finish the course.

I love the course content, and the fact that updates to course content happen as Vue updates is great. If you bought the course previously, you get the update for free which is awesome. Highly recommend his book as well “Design Patterns for Vue.js”. Great job. Would love to see a course like this from him on with advanced topics for Vue3, setup, Typescript, like render functions as data providers with scoped slots, for example. Some of that is available on his YouTube channel, but a more focused course for the new Vue3 setup would be epic. Cheers!

The content and its presentation are actually quite good, there are only some issues that force to lower my perceived rating of this course, and those are: 1) the lack of semicolons in the code displayed, 2) the use of the so-called 'classes' without a (necessary) explanation that they in fact don't exist in JS.. For those who are new to the trade, it might just give a skewed impression.

As an already quite experienced Vue.js developer, I loved the no-nonsense approach. It's going fast but if you have some experience it's easy to follow. Personally, I was looking for more in-depth information and inspiration to take my Vue projects to the next level so I really appreciate the fast pace, avoiding the need for searching through 25 hours of material to some valuable information. Definately found that valuable info here, mostly in the unit-testing. The little validation framework was also fun and inspired to build my own additions to it. Great stuff!
