Course Description
Windows Deployment Services (WDS) server is no longer optional for any highly qualified IT administrator, if you are responsible for administrating several workstations, you must learn to WDS as a primary service for Windows deployments.
Why? Good question. And the answer is clearly visible if you check the curriculum of this course, you can see the benefits of having WDS to help you manage and maintain all your Windows images in one store, your server.
So what makes WDS that useful for us? WDS works as a multi-purpose service, if you only said it's used to deploy images, you are telling a part of the truth, a minor part to be honest, with WDS, you can maintain your images, meaning that you can keep all your images updated periodically to include latest updates and service packs, you can have a WinPE images that help you troubleshoot problematic machines, you can automate installing drivers for your hardware whenever you deploy an image to a machine, you can create your reference image which will save you tens of wasted hours in getting your machines ready to be used, you can also automate the deployment process using XML answer files! Let's get a little deeper and see what this course covers...
We will start from scratch, with a brand new server, so if you're totally new to this technology, that's absolutely fine, we will learn how to add WDS role to the server, complete the initial configuration, and explore the WDS console to have an idea about what we are going to discuss in the course.
In the second section, we will see a common case that causes some kind of problems for system admins, having WDS with DHCP in the same server, why it causes a problem, and how to configure WDS & DHCP properly so you don't get yourself in trouble doing that.
After that, the real stuff will begin, we will start adding our images to the server, we will cover different types of images and what's the difference between them, boot, install and discover images, we will see how to add hardware drivers to our WDS so they get installed automatically to our deployed machines, and we will see if our configuration will work when we boot a machine to network? (Hopefully!)
The following section will dedicated to cover creating reference images (they refer to it as: standard, master, golden, etc.), you can call it an "ideal image", it will have your operating system, applications, updates, files, and settings included in one image, maybe you're thinking now, so what should I do after installing that image to a machine to make it ready-to-use?! Nothing.
There will be some different minor topics that are going to be covered in the extra section, and in the bonus section, we will see how to create XML answer files to automate the installation process (And yes, you can add this automation file to your reference image, so you get a ready-to-use device with zero human intervention)!
To get the best learning experience, every single step we mentioned here is applied practically, all the videos are recordings of my screen, where we will apply what we are discussing, boring read texts have no place here in the course.
So if you have read all that, you are now confident that you need to learn all these stuff, along with many tips included in the lectures to make it very beneficial for you, enroll now, and let's start.

The information in the course is good. However Omar talks to fast and its difficult to follow someone whos native language isnt English. Even with the subtitles on i had problems following what he was saying sometimes. As far as i could see DNS and DHCP werent taught to setup in this course, so after installing virtual box and configuring windows server 2012 r2 i couldnt go forward with the practical side of this course.

The course itself was good. However one of the issues which I found when following was going from VirtualBox to Hyper-V. You can't enable Hyper-V and use VirtualBox at the same time. So in order to follow the videos properly you would have to use Hyper-V from the start. So I ended up just watching the final stages without actually participating. If it hadn't have been for that then it would have got higher marks.

Omar is a WDS Super-Star! This one is easy to follow and very straightforward. I read through the various seminars on MS OEM site and none of them were as good/easy to follow as this course by Omar. The unattend stuff you get from MS is OK but his links were better. My only issue was that I wanted to see an unattend in action, he goes over it a little bit though. Great Job, thanks for sharing this one.

I needed the guidance for the deployment of Win10 and Omar's instructions were great. I was not looking for only the theoretical instructions or guidance but more of a hands-on experience that would explain and show the theoretical aspects implemented. I believe Omar nailed it. He showed and explained the problematic situations, showed how they were resolved and maintained a pace that is easy to practice along & understand. I just finished building my 1st image. I might have been able to build this image somehow (if I just watched a few youtube videos) but I wouldn't have done it with the understanding of the process, that I now have. THANKS Omar

I got a surprise internship for the last few weeks of summer. They taught me a lot but there were some holes. So while I patch, re-image laptops and desktops and set up new hires I watch these courses of yours and Omar's. It has done a lot to fill the gaps in my knowledge and I am even deploying a WDS server for this company before I leave. Thank you very much!

Good course, completed without too many issues. Course delivery can be improved on, just feels a little rushed. The instructions are easy enough to follow but sometimes lack explanation why they need to be done - I found myself re-watching some sections because the delivery was too quick. Otherwise I have learned a whole new technology I can now claim to understand.

Excellent (but brief) training series on how to install & configure WDS, and begin using its powerful features. I subtracted a star because the series is (relatively) short, and because there is a bit of a language barrier present that sometimes requires re-translation in order to understand what Author tried to describe. With that said, the Author sticks to the topic well and presents information without unnecessary distractions. This resulted in me learning a lot in little time and so I DO recommend this course.

This was a highly detailed and easy-to-follow course and I recommend it to anyone wanting to build their own WDS server. This is my third completed course that contains Paul Hill, however this course is mostly covered by Omar Dabbas. Both Omar and Paul are knowledgeable, informative and responsive to student inquiries and comments, including mine. I love that you can adjust the playback speed in Udemy videos. The requirements are made clear for this course and it turns out that you do need that basic background of networking and servers. My lack of such a background caused me to struggle with getting my machines to communicate with my WDS servers. I ended up referring back to a couple of videos from another Udemy course that I mention below. After a bunch of time spent, trial and error, I finally saw BIOS say "Press F12 for network service boot". I threw my hands up in excitement and relief and shouted "YES!" because that was my biggest challenge of the course and I had succeeded. If you're anything like me, just starting out with servers or wanting to avoid the struggles mentioned above, then I strongly recommend that you take the course that I've already completed called "Windows Server 2016 Administration Basics" by Paul Hill. This course will supplement you with everything you need to know to not only complete this course, but understand how and why it works. After that, just keep practicing over and over until you don't need the course to do it. Thank you Paul and Omar. x) Regards, Sage Foster

An excellent course! Lots of detailed information from the instructors. Thank you very much Paul and Omar (truly an expert in their respective fields) for this course. Highly Recommended! This will definitely help a lot of beginning IT Administrators like me. Short, clear and concise. Thank you also for the tips, i had learned a lot from this course. Thumbs up! :)

The information in this course is well presented and covers in detail the steps to setup a WDS server to be used for Windows OS installation from the network. It focuses on short explanations and the practical at a level of detail appropriate for IT professionals and other that already have experience with Windows server, AD, DNS, DHCP, and client system builds. The course covers common configurations using verbal explanation and lots of screenshots capturing the different configuration options that are required in a common WDS setup. I found the lectures very educational at the right level of detail for where I'm at as an IT pro (basic Windows server background and a couple years of "light" system administration in enterprise environments). I setup a lab using VirtualBox with a server and will be testing builds using WDS. The instructor knows his stuff and talks fast. I frequently found myself pausing and rewinding the videos to make notes and try to catch everything. You could use the slow audio playback feature alot in this course. Thanks for putting this course on WDS together I can use this at work. We are currently evaluating imaging options to speed up Windows OS installation, Windows updates, and post image installation of standard applications that are on every client PC. Thanks again for putting this together I can use it! - John S Detailed feedback on a couple sections section 2 lecture 5 has a lot of time showing an installing windows progress screen this 2:53 to 25:40 scene could be cut with no loss of educational value "Windows installation completed successfully, followed by (two?) restart(s) and we're now at the login screen, ready to login for the first time" Section 4 question 3 "We still need to configure DHCP option if WDS & DHCP are on different servers." This question would be clearer if the details of the scenario included that the servers were on the same subnet. The lecture describes two different scenarios, one where WDS & DHCP are on the same subnet, and one where they are not. In the latter case additional configuration (mentions IP Helper to forward the broadcasts) would be required. In enterprise environments I think it is common for client PCs and servers to be on different subnets. John S
