Our take
Based on the ratings of 1,662 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in November 2018. No course pays to be reviewed.
A free, 2.7 hour introduction to Xamarin Forms from Eduardo Rosas Osorno, built for people who have written some code but never shipped a mobile app. Across 27 lectures the syllabus covers building a small app in C# and XAML that runs on both Android and iOS, adding page navigation, a SQLite database and a ListView. It stops there. There is no publishing to a store, no MVVM, and no deployment build. Reviewers who came in wanting a first taste rather than a full course say that is exactly the right scope.
Students like the clear, step by step explanations. One says the course doesn't intimidate first timers, and one reviewer with four years of Xamarin experience used it as a refresher and called it the best choice for beginners. The complaints are consistent. The course hasn't been updated since November 2018, and low-star reviews say some code no longer works and the instructor is slow to answer questions. The Testing section confuses Windows users because the lecture titles read as Mac only. Non-native English speakers flag the captions as full of errors. And a few people wanted more depth, like deleting records or building an APK.
For a free course with 1,662 reviews and a 4.4 rating, it's an easy first stop. Several reviewers treated it as a warm-up before a longer paid Xamarin course, which is a sensible way to use it. Take this one to find out in an evening whether Xamarin clicks before spending money on something bigger. Just expect to work around a few things that have changed since 2018, since reviewers say some of the code no longer runs as shown.
Pros
- Free, and short enough to finish in an evening: 27 lectures, about 2.7 hours
- Gets a real app with navigation and a SQLite database running on both platforms
- Reviewers say the instructor explains concepts step by step without intimidating first timers
- Covers the Visual Studio differences between Mac and Windows, which one reviewer found interesting
Cons
- Last updated November 2018; low-star reviews say some code no longer works as shown
- Very basic: no deleting records, no APK or App Store publishing, no MVVM
- Captions have many errors and the Testing section's lecture titles confuse Windows users
It was a very informative course that didn't intimidate first timers.
Marked beginner, but it assumes some programming experience; total newcomers to code should learn basic C# first.

Course Description
A few years ago I wanted to start developing mobile apps, back then for some reason for the Windows Phone 7 OS, and I just didn't understand what I was finding on Google, too advanced for a newbie like me. I felt overwhelmed, even though I had some (very light) programming experience, this seemed too complicated, maybe that was why it was one of the latest subjects in college (and I was just starting out).
And then I heard about this event that Nokia was having for developers, two full days of learning to build Windows Phone 7 and S40 apps, and we would start with Windows Phone. So my mom, with I'm sure a few efforts, gave me just enough money for one day, to travel to the big city, get to the event, have something to eat, and return home. So I skipped school that day, and went to the event, and luckily that day it would be about Windows Phone 7, and I say luckily because a few minutes by the instructor that day completely changed my life, and I mean this in every sense of the word.
In literally just about 30 minutes, this guy perfectly explained how to build Windows Phone 7 apps, and a world of opportunities opened for me, I would go ahead and build dozens of apps for WP7, WP8, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 thanks to that quick lecture
The reason I'm writing about this story, is because I want you to have the same opportunity that I did back then, so you too can start building apps, and with no need from your loving parents to sacrifice some of the money they may very well lack, this course is entirely free. Hoping that this course does to your professional career what those 30 minutes did for mine all those years ago.
If you are a complete beginner on app development, I made this course with you in mind, so after just a few minutes you unlock a world of posibilites with the apps that you can build.
And even better, Xamarin Forms unlocks more doors now by itself than Windows Phone 7 did back then. Xamarin Forms allows you to build NATIVE both Android and iOS apps reusing one code base.
So, if you are a complete beginner, take this course, and at the end, you will know how to:
Build iOS apps and
Build Android apps
By 100% reusing C# and XAML code!
Add SQLite local databases to your apps
Jumpstart your mobile app development career, don't wait for the University to teach you in the last semesters, act now and start building iOS and Android apps today.

I am a Software Engineer and entrepreneur, currently focused on the intersection of AI and practical finance. I am the co-founder of Revalorify, a startup dedicated to simplifying budget creation through artificial intelligence.
My work at Revalorify has driven my professional growth into full-stack JavaScript (React and Node.js) and specialized AI technologies, including Generative AI, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and Google's Vertex AI platform.
This new venture builds on a solid foundation of over seven years in software development. My background is heavily rooted in mobile, where I was a Xamarin-Certified Developer building cross-platform applications in C#. During that time, I co-founded my first startup, AlphaBeta, which was focused on helping Mexicans adopt new digital technologies.
Beyond development, I have a deep passion for education and have successfully mentored thousands of students in coding. My students often say I have a knack for making complex subjects easy to understand. I also have a keen eye for design, which I use as both a creative outlet and a way to ensure the applications I build are not only functional but also intuitive.

Eduardo is very good at explaining various programming consepts and giving good examples. I had bought another course of his in the past for WPF, so I was already familiar with his analytical way of tutoring. I believe this course is a very good start for a beginner in the Xamarin Forms and mobile programming in general. I definitely recommend it.

I have 4 years of experience in Xamarin. It had been some months since I last coded in Xamarin as I was exploring other technologies meanwhile. Taking this course, which is in fact the best choice for beginners in Xamarin, helped me to refresh the very basic concepts once again. So now I can confidently revisit Xamarin.

I enjoyed this course on Xamarin Forms. It's more of an introduction to Xamarin development, but the instructor presents the material with clear and easy to follow examples. Some prior knowledge of C# is recommended, but he gets you up and running quickly developing a basic app. Bonus inclusion of integrating SQL databases was pretty nice too. Thanks!

Great course that taught me it isn’t as intimidating as I thought! The teacher moved fast which helped me feel like I was really building something instead of getting discouraged and bogged down in lengthy technical explanations. He explained what each step would do in its role of making the program work: short, sweet and simple. Really made me more confident in approaching xaml and C# and cross platform app development. A great starting point for anyone who is feeling intimidated and overwhelmed about starting xamarin cross platform development, C# or xaml. Thank you for an enlightening and enjoyable learning journey!

Although I enjoyed it, for a new person using Xamarin forms, this needs to have some of the very basics of the framework explained, and perhaps an lecture regarding WPF and Xamarin's implementation of their version of WPF needs some explanation as they are not the same. Some basic structure of how a shared project as opposed to a .NET standard project should have been touched upon as it has important implications. A basic discussion regarding Xaml and what it is would be welcome. The instructors other courses are very good and highly recommended!

Love it! Totally love it! It has been 6 months that I have heard about the term "Xamarin" and always wanted to learn it. Unfortunately, I have been discouraged because of its complex architecture. But this course entirely changed my vision and showed me the beautiful parts of Xamarin. Thanks Eduarodo! I am going to become a Xamarin developer in a few months!

1 - tutorials are not up-to-date. 2 - instructor not very responsive. 3 - Tutorial titles unclear / confusing, especially in Section 4: Testing. The titles itself give the impression that this section is only for macintosh students, forgetting Windows. Only those bothered to review the entire section will find something related to windows as the tutorials were not well labelled. To worsen the case, this section doesn't provide a proper explanation to first timers how to setup a connection. This crucial steps was clearly leftout, leaving students to puzzle out what to do next. Update: I had to play around with my VS to see how I can use my old Kitkat so I can use this tutorial properly. 4 - The instructors accent is a bit difficult to follow.
