Course Description

Instructor Info

Emiel Sleegers always had love for video games and when he was young, he started using Unity3D for programming but he found himself gravitating more towards the art of making games. Now he is currently working as an environment artist in Ubisoft. He contributed to creating AAA games such as Forza Horizon 3 and The Division 2. His all time favorite game is The Last of Us and that video game is what inspired him to want to work in the game industry. His advice for beginner artists is to focus on one aspect of gaming that they are passionate about, stick to it and get better at it. His hobbies include anything related to games or films, whether it be working on personal projects, freelance work or going out for movies.

About a quarter of the way through and really enjoying this! Emiel's jokes keep me going lol. Goof for modifier practice. Will look great on my portfolio. Never stop the tutorials!

By Mohamed El-Sirafy on 4/13/2021

It's a good tutorial but as I worked as a 3ds Max Instructor for about 2 years teaching and fixing issues for my students I can tell that he is missing too many tips, tricks, and even tools inside 3ds Max, and almost every time he said that 3ds Max has a bug, the problem was from his workflow not from 3ds Max and this happened inside UE4 too. In addition to that this tutorial doesn't represent Ubisoft quality at all. This tutorial will be good for someone who needs the motivation to complete a big project like this and I myself needed this motivation but don't expect to follow up with the videos step by step, the best thing you can do is to watch some sessions then start working by yourself with your perspective then watch some more sessions and start working by yourself till you finish the whole tutorial. Finally, I have to thank Emiel Sleegers for sharing his knowledge. Thank you man, greetings to you.

I love this course!!! Emiel is a fantastic tutor through this tutorial, the amount of detailed explanation and the effort to teach is wonderful! Especially for such a complex model like this one. Highly recommending!!

This course really gets me a lot of knowledge in the creation of game environment art. I have already taken a couple of courses from Emiel Sleegers, which was really wonderful. The way that tutor explaining every step is really wonderful. I definitely recommend this course to anyone who is willing to get started a career in the game industry, especially with environment art. A Big thanks to Emiel Sleegers and please continue to create such tutorials in the future. :)

This course was exactly what I was looking for in terms of a tutorial to take a diorama style scene through every stage all the way from blockout to completion. The instructor explains everything hes doing and while at times I found it a bit slow and repetitive, I recognize that was intentional for more beginner level artists. He is excellent at explaining his rationale for every choice he makes and what his thought process, which I find very helpful compared to many tutorials which take a more step by step follow the recipe approach, this tutorial helps by teaching you to think about flavours rather than just follow a recipe. I came to this in large part for some introductory lighting techniques for a scene which this was good for as he does 2 different lighting set ups but for intermediate to advanced artists I also found there were a ton of little tips, tricks, techniques and ways of approaching something that was very helpful.

Thanks for this amazing tutorial, Emiel is a really good teacher. Usually I'm working in Maya and other programs, but I felt it's the time for learn Unreal and Max and Substance Designer, so I recommend this course everyone who wants to learn some environment art. I'll go and look out for more course from Emiel.

By Barrett Ettel on 9/21/2019

I learnt a lot of great stuff in this course, I am currently working on 2 environments, one in UE4 and another in Unity, and content creation done in Maya, almost all the knowledge was transferrable, with the exception of program-specific things of course but they were too hard to figure out.

By James Gammell on 9/11/2019

If i were to describe this tutorial as an anime character, it would be the super smart character that is also somehow a little klutzy. You could also say this is the raw process warts and all. The tutorial delivers a lot of valuable information, and also covers some things going wrong and their correction, which in itself has a value.

By Kell Houk on 9/1/2019

Repeat customer for this instructor! very knowledgable with a nice pace and real world experience. BEST part is that he is evenly detailed throughout the course without rushing the end and where i have the most queations- Unreal. To instructor: Keep doing exactly what you are doing and offering quality courses like this and i will keep coming back again and again! Thank you so much, you are helping me to achieve my dreams and passion for modeling.
