Course Description

Join more than 7,000 students learning about interesting research in psychology!

If you've ever wanted an easy way to start learning about psychology, this is the course for you!

In this free course, you'll learn about 5 studies in psychology and see how their results reveal interesting things about human thought and behavior.

The studies in this course reveal…

  • how we can persuade someone to do what we want without even providing good reasons
  • why praising some kids for their intelligence vs. their hard word dramatically changed their test scores
  • why people who held a hot cup of coffee instead of an iced coffee automatically started thinking a stranger was especially generous and caring
  • …and more!

Carefully designed experiments tell us a great deal about the choices we make, the ways we behave, and why we think the way we do. I'm a social psychologist myself, and I thought about which studies most interested me early in my education and which studies are my current favorites. I even reached out to my colleagues to ask them what studies have most inspired them and are important for everyone to know about.

So enroll in this fun introductory course and start seeing how simple research in psychology tells us amazing things about human thought and behavior!

This course is a special selection of lectures on experiments in social psychology. For a more advanced course, please check out “Quickly Understand Social Psychology," available here on Udemy.

I'm not in a psychology profession, but I love learning about how people tick - including myself. Dr. Luttrell is fun to listen to. He speaks clearly and in terms anyone can understand. I could immediately tell how much he enjoys his work so I'm looking forward to seeing more of his classes and videos. Thank you!

I really enjoyed the Halloween special videos! Those studies were awesome in-depth explanations on identity and self-reflection. Overall the five studies and the 5th graders' experiment Andrew explains was enlightening and worth listening too!

This was absolutely brilliant, I have learnt something today, his examples were of excellent taste and amazingly this all relate to exactly what we are doing today. Will definitely want more. Thanks

The best endorsement for this class is that I've signed up for three more of Andrew Luttrel's courses. This class was structured well and the psychology studies were concisely explained in method, outcome and applicability to real-life situations. I also enjoyed the instructor's presentation style and sense of humor.

While the title is 5 experiments, the course actually contains the results of 10 experiments. Since I am into homeschooling, the experiment # 3 and the three experiments regarding haloween pschology were very close to my interests. The "Because" experiment was also cool. All in all, I felt the instructor knows his subject and his delivery is interesting as well as engaging.

Thank you so much for this mini tour of motivation and thought processes! The Praise Ability vs.Effort was/is my favorite-from 5th graders to the older people I work with, this has been an eye-opening experience. THANK YOU for making this available to us. I will sign up for the Full Fifteen as soon as I can! From Christina-Chicago
