Course Description
You bought Ableton Live. Maybe you've opened it. Maybe you've stared at it. Maybe you've watched a YouTube tutorial, gotten halfway through, and quietly closed the lid.
This is the course you actually finish.
I'm Jay — an Ableton Certified Trainer, a tenured university professor with a Ph.D. in Music, and the instructor for close to a million Ableton students on Udemy. I've spent the last decade figuring out exactly where people get stuck when they try to learn Live, and exactly what unsticks them. This bundle is the result of that.
What this bundle actually is
The Ableton Live 12 Mastery Bundle is three full courses packaged together — the first half of my Ultimate Ableton Live 12 series:
Part 1: Production Principles — Live's two views, signal flow, the workflow that real producers use
Part 2: Recording Music and MIDI — every method for recording audio and MIDI in Live, plus warping, editing, and quantizing without losing the feel
Part 3: Producing Music with Live — making beats, working with synths, racks, MIDI effects, and the full audio effects chain
By the time you finish, you won't be poking around hoping you don't break something. You'll know what every button does, why it's there, and when to use it.
What you'll actually walk away with
A working knowledge of 100% of Ableton Live 12 — every view, every device, every shortcut that matters
The seven (and counting) ways to make a beat in Live, and when each one is the right move
A real grip on Live's audio effects: time-based, frequency-based, dynamic — what they do and how to chain them
Confidence with the Ableton instruments, Wavetable, the samplers, and racks
The ability to take a song from a blank Set to a finished, mixed, mastered track
Why this course, and not the other 400 Ableton tutorials
A few honest reasons:
It's complete. Most Ableton courses cover 20% of the program and stop. This one covers all of it.
I answer every question myself, usually within 24 hours. Not "support staff." Me.
It's certified by IAOMEI (independent course quality review), I'm an Ableton Certified Trainer, and the average rating across my Ableton classes is over 4.7 stars from tens of thousands of students.
The vibe. It's just the two of us hanging out and learning Live. Bad jokes included. Please laugh — I'm pretending you do.
Who this is for
The complete beginner who just downloaded the Live trial and is trying not to panic. The hobbyist who's been faking it for a year and wants to actually understand what's happening under the hood. The producer who learned in another DAW and is making the jump. The teacher, the YouTuber, the podcaster, the songwriter — anyone who wants Live to stop being a mystery.
If you're already mixing major-label records in Live, this probably isn't the one. For everyone else: this is where you start.
See you in Lesson 1.
— Jay

Unfortunately, despite having a Ph.D. in music and over 15 years of experience, this certified instructor doesn't know how to balance the audio in his videos. There is a huge volume difference between his voice and the DAW output. Because of this, you'll find yourself constantly riding the volume knob—turning it way up just to hear what he’s saying, and then frantically turning it down so you don't go deaf. It makes the course very frustrating to watch.

Great lessons and i'm learning a lot however, the audio from ableton and instructor's mic is not leveled. i have to lower the volume everytime he plays a clip.

This class is amazing so far! Exactly what I was looking for, a breakdown of ALL Abletons functionalities, when I first installed Ableton I was LOST LOST like Tom Hanks in Castaway! Now, I navigate Ableton with confidence and still finding new and exciting things I can do inside the software, all thanks to Coach J! I'm only 40 something videos into the courses, so hopefully I can finish the song I started and release it by the end of these courses!

I need to see more to refine my rating, but the courses are pretty good. The content is relevant and aligned with the expectations we can have from the description, the video is of good quality, nicely animated, the teacher is clear and leads at a good pace. I would love even more if the speech was a bit more fluent, as hesitations and unexpected blanks tend to distract from the given message.

This is not my first class with Dr. Jason Allen. He's awesome! I know my way around the software and instruments thanks to him, and now I'm happy to take this Ableton 12 class as a refresher and intro into the new version which I just bought. I'm happy to see him in my screens. He's thorough, really good at teaching and easy to follow.

Look, I made it to section 7 before writing this. I'm 52 always loved music even DJing in the rave scene for a few years, back in the day. Music production has always been a dream of mine which lead me to ableton 12. The program was before now, at this stage almost a mystery where beyond basic making noise, left questions of how can I become more efficient and productive. This guy has tailored this course to address everything from the what and where things are to an understanding of how somethings work. I am glad I purchased both courses for along with the notes taken this is exactly what you're looking for in an ableton introduction into production course. Hell yeah bro thanks for these videos!!!!!

Very knowledgeable teacher. The course covers Ableton in great detail and also zooms in a little on topics that support the course subject. Parts about audio interfaces and microphones helped getting an understanding of things to think about to record audio and how it influences the end result. Pointing out very expensive options and comparing with the economic choice helps in making informed de decisions.

I haven't finished the course, but it's adding the context to the functions that someone like myself might have never arrived at otherwise. I know a lot pf people say you can sort of click and play and figure out how to use a program like Ableton. But my brain needs to add the how and why to things to feel like I've got a grip on things. The detail, the pace, and the demonstrations have all created a tangible understanding for me. I'm an absolute beginner in all of this and sometimes my head would spin when I pan out and look at all that goes into music production. But this course has helped me dial in and find that starting point. Very grateful for this course, for the instructor and for this site for having this material. I will certainly buy more courses from this instructor as I journey further down this road.

A great course for beginners, or for people like me who’ve been tinkering with Ableton on their own for quite a while. I still have about 50 videos left in the first bundle (1–3) (So that’s basically 160 behind me already (so I think that after this amount of time it’s a fair opinion))., and I’ve already learned tons of things that used to keep me up at night or that I used to do in a roundabout way just to get the same result. Highly recommended! Another big plus is that J. always replies, even if you ask him the silliest questions—which I really didn’t expect from a Udemy course. I’ll gladly take J. Anthony’s other courses, and my only regret is that I found this one so late. Cheers!

So far this is an extremely attentive and well-done course, I'm on day 2 here and I already have enough knowledge on Ableton from this course to start making some music and more complex sounds! I couldn't recommend this course more! EDIT: I'm half way through now and I have gained proficiency in the Ableton software, something that once seemed daunting now feels familiar thanks to Dr.J. Anthony Allens!
