Advanced JavaScript Topics (Udemy.com)

Some explanations just doesn't mean anything, instructor is just winging it but unfortunately can't come up with a good explanation. "Break apart what needs to be done. break it apart and those pieces become your plan. How you will proceed to finish that project?" Some explanations are just the previous explanation with a different word arrangement, which doesn't add any more info and doesn't clarify any misunderstanding about the subject. Some explanations are almost whispered so it's quite difficult to hear what was being said, I don't want to increase my volume because the audio is painful to listen on a higher volume. Raising your voice doesn't make you more convincing and also no one is arguing with you. And on the video(not movie) about classes on Javascript, the instructors tune about classes, for me, sounds like it might as well be the devil himself. All throughout the video, he doesn't even reserve the idea that it's alright to use classes and just hammers down that because it's just syntactic sugar and not the real and his preferred way of doing things, it shouldn't be practiced.

I'm very experienced with Javascript and was looking for a highly advanced course to cover concepts I still struggle with such as closures, higher order functions etc. This course did a fairly good job but also spent alot of time covering what I would consider to be simple Javascript topics. I guess its different for everyone but it wasnt the advanced course I was looking for. I do appreciate his teaching style though and I did learn alot so I'm glad I took it.

I was searching for a pure JavaScript course without any diversion in building application(s) mainly to understand the language well enough. Though I have basic knowledge in JavaScript, I started this series as a beginner, all lectures were in simple, easy to understand English, straight to the point. I got what I expected, through this course I learned subtle details, important techniques in JS programming like designing an app, such as identifying objects, its properties, and methods, from a given problem, and many more. 100% Worth spending time and effort. Thanks a lot “Mr Steven” expecting more courses from you, such as projects using vanilla JavaScript to apply what I learnt through this course, node.js, etc.

Wow. I know a little bit of Javascript but not much. This course really increase my understanding of Javascript. I like the way you teach the course slow, and understandable with exercises that we can follow and practice on our own with no stones untouch. Now I can go back to regular Javascript textbook and understand most of the subject in the book because of this course. Thanks

I've enjoyed this course.. The teacher is very experience and come's up with good examples.. although there is room for improvement .. I found this course a little bit 'outdated' .. I could say it's not done in 2018, probably not in 2017.. and maybe it was created in 2015/16 .. let say this is not a big problem, although if Steven will be willing to add some new lessons .. that might solve it. especially will be really cool to see some examples of using 'immutablejs' or 'ramdajs'. I wish everyone the best!

From the beginning to the end this course is a deep dive into javascript for students who wants to become advanced javascript users. I found this course a very solid path to learn what I missed from other basic courses and the exercises proposed are good to get familiar with the language. The only things is about exercises and design patterns: maybe I need some other course and to get my hands dirty in some open source project to get familiar with the many javascript design patterns and to gain perfection in pratice.

I have a deeper and more intuitive understanding of programming and of the more modern features of JavaScript. Even the modern features get translated back in plain vanilla JavaScript. It is easier to learn syntax, but, if you don't understand underlying design of JavaScript, you cannot take full advantage. I now only realize that. Steven is an extremely experienced developer and gifted instructor. He responds to question himself and in a timely manner. My only suggestion is on the namespace and module pattern is reduce the assignments to something that will fit Udemy's content limitations.

I'm about 70% of the way through and already I've gotten a lot out of this course. A few years ago, I learned some basic JS and then was thrown into using Node and other frameworks without knowing much vanilla JS. This class helped me grasp a lot of concepts that I didn't fully understand like closure and prototypes. I also found the module explanations extremely useful. I am going back and refactoring my older work now that I know how to clean it up. I will definitely be re-watching a lot of the videos. And the instructor answered questions within a few hours and was very helpful and knowledgable. Definitely worth taking!

This is a good course on intermediate level Javascript. It includes the type of problems you're likely to encounter in a job interview. It's a good blend of theory and practice, very thorough and exhaustive. I feel like I've learned a lot about Javascript and had some breakthroughs in understanding some of its peculiarities. There are a few shortcomings. There's not a lot of assignments, and the quizzes tend to the trivial and are vaguely worded. For example, the true/false question "pure functions depend on outside data" could be true or false depending on what exactly you're talking about: the arguments or the scope. In the final assignment, which is alternately listed as both "Exercise 8" and "Exercise 9", the problem is explained so poorly it's impossible to solve without reading the instructor's answer. There's also a lack of rigor when it comes to the lectures and to course material. In one quiz, there's a typo in the correct answer ("Clone then object then pass the new object"). Then about 3/4 of the way through the course there's a short video entitled "Congratulations!" in which you're informed that you've successfully finished the course and wished the best of luck "in your future endeavors". The problem is that there's still over two hours of coursework left at this point, without which you won't get a certificate! The biggest problem though is the approach to resource materials. The student must download dozens of ZIP files containing multiple copies of the exact same files and even worse, multiple copies of the same ZIP repository containing completely empty files, because interspersed among them, in deeply nested folders, are the files that you will actually need. It all comes across as a poorly thought out. Overall, this is a good exploration of intermediate level Javascript, if you can put up with some minor annoyances and don't mind a rather high ratio of lecture to assignment.

I can't think of anything I would improve about this course. It was perfect for me. The only thing I didn't like about the exercises was having to leave feedback for others work in order to get credit for having done the exercise. I am extremely uncomfortable leaving that kind of feedback because I am so new to programming. I don't think it helped me and I don't know how it helped the recipient. That being said, I can see how the rationalization for that part of the exercises might be correct. I appreciated how the instructor often repeated basic concepts as they were applied in more advanced concepts. He seemed to know exactly when the reminders were helpful. I thought the response to questions asked in the forum was fairly prompt and always helpful. I would highly recommend this course to anyone wanting a deeper dive into JavaScript and especially functional programming.

I only have seen the first part at the moment. Although I already knew the "this" implicit binding concept from some book, the well explained examples have helped me to settle it. I hope to understand the next sections too...
