Course Summary:

Learn to see Agile and traditional plan-driven project management principles and practices in a fresh new perspective as complementary to each other rather than competitive in order to get the best of these two worlds!

Many businesses and project managers are faced with a choice of choosing a traditional plan-driven approach (or what is sometimes called “Waterfall") or a more Agile approach for critical projects which can be a very important decision with significant business impact but there are many stereotypes and misconceptions that exist about both “Agile" and “Waterfall" that can be very confusing and misleading.  Many people see this as a binary and mutually-exclusive choice between two extremes and attempt to force-fit projects to one of these two approaches when the right solution is to go in the other direction and fit the approach to the project.

Since this is such a critical decision that has such a big impact, it's very important to get past these stereotypes and misconceptions, develop a clear objective understanding of what it means (or doesn't mean) when people talk about "Agile versus Waterfall".

Special Note:

This course is part of an overall curriculum that is designed around helping students develop the skills required for a high-impact Agile Project Management role.  Most students will want to take the complete curriculum rather than individual courses.  The complete curriculum should be taken in the following order:

gives a good overview about the pros and cons of agile and waterfall. How they may be used and where they should be applied. But the explanation remains rather superficial and is focussed on selling other books/courses. There is too little practicality as in how to apply it in a real day-to-day work setting

By Reuben Cole on 3/17/2021

Excellent course. Good overview on Agile and Scrum. I wished there were tips about which software tools could be best used to work with Agile and Scrum. I was very happy with this course. Very good course.

By Juan Hervilla on 6/15/2020

La interface no es muy dinamica y el tono del profesor monotono. En cuanto a las lecciones, creo que dan una buena primera intención de lo que es Agile. Me gustaría tener mas preguntas en los quiz, para realmente asentar la materia.

By Klara Sommermann on 5/20/2020

Very knowledgeable and well concepted course. Even with some experience in Agile I learned a bunch of new things. Slightly decreased audio quality at some parts, slides are a bit old-fashioned but that's okay. I take away half a star because the quiz questions are rather easy to guess (basically all answers containing "always" or "never" are wrong), and some explanations for answers are missing.

The material was delivered in interesting way and made me understand little by little by doing some quizzes and cases. Currently I still adapt with Agile methodology while still used 'waterfall' Actually we didn't apply the fully agile as explained in this course, but the main point is we followed the agile methodology and didn't leave plan-driven itself.

By Alexey Gumirov on 3/8/2018

This is very good introductory course. It is short, but crisp and brings the essential information and knowledge. It also helped me to define what next courses I want to listen to on order to expand my knowledge in this area.

By Kathi Replogle on 2/1/2018

Since the company I work for is using Scrum/Agile but my position does not directly involve it, I was looking for an "outline" of the basics to better understand the process. This is just what I was in need of! Very clear explanation!

By Sharon Farina on 1/9/2017

This course is a great overview about Agile and Waterfall project frameworks and among other things, explains the advantages and disadvantages of each. I found it very interesting that depending on the situation, a hybrid approach between the two would be a great solution. The slides and the pace of the course were also great.

By Claudia Rebeca Jimenez Perez on 3/5/2016

I think this is a great course! It gives you a big panorama about the differences between waterfall and agile, and how both can be combined to be used in complex projects. I learned a lot with this course. Totally recommended

By Martin Wiley on 1/2/2016

I found the course content to be excellent in it's presentation and explanation of Agile.. With this additional knowledge I now understand key concepts in tailoring the methodology to meet the needs of the project as appose to tailoring the project to meet the needs of the methodology... Thanks a million for the Intro course ,, Marty Wiley, PS.. I will be scheduling other course in the near future.. Thanks Again!!!!
