A fascinating class. Significantly more than I need (or.... maybe not), as I'm recording interviews about and for a non-profit I'm associated with. Lots of historical data, memories, opinions and the like. Each interview witll be presented like a podcast-- hence, they'll need some editing! The class was very interesting and gave me an encapsulated look at what I can do with Audacity.

I'm a photographer and airplane mechanic. What I know about recording and editing sound isn't much. Jason didn't make very many assumptions about my knowledge or experience - he started with the basics and went on from there. He didn't talk over my head or down to me. I appreciate that. This course is a good way for a beginners to get a handle on Audacity.

This course was exactly what I expected. A quick introduction to the Audacity interface. It doesn't teach you much more than that. There are some places the course could be trimmed, but it's pretty short to begin with. For the simple tasks I wanted to do (trimming, normalizing and layering ambient effects at the lowest cost possible), I was up in running within a half hour of starting the course. Thanks!

This is my first 5 star rating. I've taken several classes from Udemy. This is my first class by Jason Allen. He has a knack for teaching the essentials and not going too fast or too slow. I like the length of each video. They don't go on too long but are just the right length to step away and absorb. I was able to move pretty fast through the course because of the digestible chunks of instruction. Thanks.

I had already tried to use Audacity but had hit some stumbling blocks. This course starts right at the very beginning and walks you through the how and why of most tools, which has actually set me up well to do further troubleshooting on my own. It also inspired some new creative ideas along the way.

This course is a great *introduction* to Audacity. It goes over pretty much all the basics. The instructor is really clear, to the point and interesting to listen to. However, as I have emphasized above, it is an introduction to the software. Only a handful of frequently used effects are explained, but that is expected from the target audience level of this course and the two hour length of the course. Some observations: 1. From my brief encounter with Audacity, I believe that the normalize plugin is a pretty frequently used tool which is missing here. 2. Noise removal is added as bonus content, but I really think it should have been part of the core content. There might be some historical reason for adding it as bonus, but adding it as bonus might cause potential customers to skip the course because it is one of the most sought after use of Audacity. So a note about it in the description might help. 3. A chapter on really basic audio theory would be really helpful. Doesn't have to be much - just explain why the measurements on the tracks (0 to -1.0, or the dB based scale mean) because so many of the effects refer to these numbers. Overall, I would really recommend this course if you have never tinkered with Audacity before and would like a quick crash course of all the important parts of it. I would be recommending this course to my wife, for example! :)

I have enjoyed all of the Jason Allen Courses that I have taken. His style is easy to understand and follow. He does not belabor points but states them clearly and goes on...

By Paddy Mallon on 3/26/2017

The overall content is good - giving a broad basic top level intro to how to go about using Audacity. There is not a lot of lower level detailed use described but that is ok in a quick (2 hr) overview. Although J has a light engaging manner he repeats himself with individual points over and over again. It gets to be a little grating. Some of the demos would have been better if they were pre-planned and done with suitable material rather than done off the cuff.

Enjoyed the course. Even though I had been using Audacity without the benefit of any guided instruction for some time, I learned new things. His voice was clear throughout. There were vocal ticks, throat clearings, etc., but not to the degree of distracting from the content. At times I got the sense that the lesson was not totally prepared before the presentation began, but it was not a problem. There is much in Audacity that was not mentioned, e.g., bookmarking the tracks, but there is only so much that can be covered in a short course. Shortness is a virtue of any course for the student who has limited time. To conclude, I would recommend it to any beginner in the use of Audacity.

I will explain the pros and cons I found in this course: PROS: - It is a nice overview of the program. With this information you can start using Audacity, record and modify content. - The explanations are correct - The duration has been also well chosen. - The course has a good quality/price ratio CONS: - Sometines you speak really fast and it is not easy to understand if you are not from a english spoken country. - Be careful with some sounds. Sometines thery are really high and they were a blast for my ears. - Maybe I missed more examples or a full exercise using all the tools together. Anyway if you want a good recap of audacity take this course!
